Protect P.R.O.T.U.S (Microsoft E3 Media Briefing)

A thrilling sequence that puts players deep inside the near-future world of Black Ops 2, we wanted to take you through the intense action of the “Protect P.O.T.U.S.” mission.

With downtown Los Angeles under attack from rogue drones, players take control of David Mason, son of Alex Mason, as he sits in with a convoy racing down the freeway. This isn’t any ordinary assignment though, Mason is charged with escorting the President of the United States to safety. The trusted soldier lays out his plan to the President, get to the “Prom Night” shelter underneath the Bonaventure Hotel. But before the group has any more time to think, drone attacks hit their convoy and leave them wrecked along on the highway. Coming to after the startling crash, Mason scrambles to a nearby SAM Turret, locking onto multiple drones and downing them in a burst of precision missile strikes.

After dealing with the immediate threat, Mason meets back up with the group further ahead on the highway. Players are then given an option on how to approach the next sequence: Stay on the highway and provide sniper fire from above, or rappel down with the President and directly engage the hostile troops. Choosing to stick up top allows Mason to command a powerful new weapon, the Sniper Storm rifle. Featuring an X-ray scope and a five-bar gauge, this sniper rifle is able to charge up and put successive rounds through cover, downing enemies that would normally evade gunfire.

Moving down the ruined streets of Los Angeles proves to be a dangerous trek, with hostile troops around every barrier. To help clear the path, Mason can command a squad of quadrotors with his I.W.M.D. (Interactive Wrist Mounted Display). Directing the squad towards enemy positions, Mason moves through tightly held positions with some much needed firepower on his side.

Also assisting him is Anderson, a female pilot in control of a FA-38 jet. Anderson provides aerial reconnaissance for Mason as he makes his way along the streets. But when injuries force her to land her aircraft, it’s up to Mason to provide support from above. Hovering over the reformed convoy, Mason clears the road with effectively placed missiles and cannons.

With a pack of drones closing in though, Mason breaks away from the convoy and engage the enemy squadrons in an all-out dogfight. The drones attempt to repel Mason’s fire with deployed countermeasures, but the FA-38’s Sky Buster missiles lock-on and break through their defenses. Suddenly the on-board computer warns of an incoming drone. With barely enough time to react, Mason manages to eject from the jet just before it impacts the enemy fighter. As he floats back down to Earth, aircraft continue their engagements above, while a still-compromised city awaits Mason below.

In response to the last article, I believe I have devised a plan for how to figure out when the next MW3 DLC is coming without it being announced. I think CharlieIntel chould count the days in between each drop and then from the last drop’s elease date figure out how many days there are to go and post it. I’m guessing there are going to be in the 20s range of dates ( since most months have around 20 days. I am a huge MW3 DLC fan and I love your site!!! Keep going!!! 🙂

  • OMG its Beebo

isnt it too early to show gameplay?

      No, it doesn’t.

Does it mean the contract was renewed? Or does it mean that since Black Ops 2 will be out for 2 months of 2012 the Xbox-first DLC will hold over for those 2 months, a limited time?

    • The Flash

if the game is released in november this year, there will be no dlc until january at the earliest

  • Hey! Did you remember on one of the interviews with Lamia that he said that u could play as an sniper or go to foots, and he went and sniped, he had the choice! Because on the left side it said rappel, i think that ment that you could rappel down with the other! Hopw this helped, and hope u notice this message

    • pikaluva13

The rappel was on the right side

  • Johnny

The contract is renewed? That’s fucking bullshit Treyarch.. Come the fuck on…

    • corporatenothing

Not Treyarch. Activision. Come on, let me walk you through this – it’s not that difficult to understand.
Treyarch – developer. They create the game. They are responsible for the bulk of the creative decisions.
Activision – publisher. They fund and market the game. They are responsible for the bulk of the business/financial decisions.
ACTIVISION renewed the contract. Not Treyarch.

  • no no no the 3rd pic IS the Type just look at it

  • Crumeo

Is it me or did I see a Type-95 Acog and not a Type 25 ACOG on the floor? he is carrying a Type 25 before jumping in the plane, but I am certain there was a Type 95 he walks over in the mall

    • TurboBill

      I saw it too

  • The Flash

so they’ve renewed the contract honestly, thats no big deal, i have an xbox i couldnt care a less, i think its stupid and unfair tho to PS3/PC but honestly getting stuff later is not a thing to moan about

    • cockoff

Huh? So it is unfair, but you shouldn’t moan about it? Why? Something that is unfair is EXACTLY the thing to moan about.

Especially now. There is ZERO need for MS to do this. They are not going to sell enough new consoles to recoup the money they’re shelling out on this contract, I guarantee you that.

If they showed off a new console today and BO2 was out on that, I’d say sure thing, smart business move, people will buy the new Xbox as that has the COD DLC first, but really, who doesn’t already own an Xbox that is going to go and buy COD DLC?

There is not a business need right now to it, they’ve only done it to stop Sony moving in on it.

Xbox’s focus this year is casual gamers. That is who buys consoles this late in the life cycle, and the conference and Usher showed that.

IT IS A TYPE 95 WITH ACOG ON THE FLOOR AND THE TYPE 25 WITH NO ATTACHMENT IN THE SECOND PART OF THE BLACK OPS 2 VIDEO

  • Shoko Droid

can some1 tell me what is the gun that shown on 5:43..
    XM8?

  • Elektrobanq

I think it is safe to say that the “tri-barreled shotgun” is really a sniper rifle. It is used by the player in the demo when he is sniping from above, protecting the president. The three barrels are probably there for charging up and shooting multiple rounds at once.

  • Tirumalav

Will there be another Black Ops Demo at the Sony E3 conference?

  • InfiniteAstro

Well i got to go clean my underwear because that was freaking awesome!!!!!!!!

  • 1717

There’s a new vid up on Machinma respawn and it shows the RPG in action. It also proves that the KSG is in the game (it’s just called KSG). The KRISS KARD is called KAP-40 and there is another gun called the Chicon QCB.

  • Poop

    Hi

  • Ed

yeah, activision lost me at, “black ops II dlc, coming first to xbox live.” …. *click*

  • pikaluva13

The list of weapons that I saw in one of the gameplay videos (I don’t know which one specifically — It’s the one that TmarTn2 put up on his channel though) were:
    Type 25
    RPG
    Vector K10
    Storm PSR
    KSG
    KAP-40
    Chicom QCB

  • MeLoNhEadSeb

I am pretty sure that the FMG 9 thing is the Chicom QCB.
