A forums member on NeoGAF has obtained a copy of the July version of the GameInformer magazine via his Google Play tablet subscription. In the magazine, it has confirmed the first details about Respawn’s newest game, ‘Titanfall’. According to the magazine, the game will be out on Xbox One and PC, with the Xbox 360 version being developed by another studio. “After a bitter split with Activision and Call of Duty, Respawn debuts its bold vision for next-gen multiplayer,” reads the cover.

The new game from Respawn is a futuristic multiplayer-centric online shooter, one of our sources says. The source describes the game as a battle of Davids and Goliaths. The Davids are heavily-armed foot soldiers. The Goliaths are the giant exosekeltons—Titans—that these soldiers can pilot. These Titans are big mech-style walkers that move with an agility not seen in games like Mechwarrior or Steel Battalions.

To keep the action balanced, game maps limit the number of Titans that can be used in a skirmish. Weapon loadouts for the foot soldiers are designed to ensure that the characters on foot can take out the Titans if need be. The source who described the game does not work at Respawn, but their description tracks with the long-reported desire by the former Infinity Ward team to make a sci-fi shooter.

The game is expected to ship in ‘Spring 2014’ according to the magazine. The game will be using Microsoft’s Cloud tech to support the always online aspect. The game has a Campaign Multiplayer and Regular Multiplayer. The leak also states that the game is using a source engine, as making a new engine would take too long.

According to the leak, it says that

They thought working on PS4, Xbox One and PC would prove too difficult for a small team, so they decided to focus on one console instead of two. (er…). “Not to say we won’t [go multiplatform] in the future, but for our first game we wanted to focus on making the best game we could.”

UPDATE: @EA has confirmed that Titanfall is real, and more information is coming during their E3 conference on Monday, June 10th.

A Sci-Fi shooter? Ummmm yeah no.

I’ll stick with COD and be happy…

    • Batman

These guys created CoD, have more respect, their game will be a masterpiece

      • ccrows

How could I forget – Unlimited Ammo, Noob Tubes, Nades and of course the Commando Knife lunge.

Oh yeah, a real masterpiece… lol

        • Goofboy413

No, these are the guys that created COD4, not MW2.

          • Jon Cameron

There are people in Respawn who were around for MW2 lol

          • Mikey

They created MW2, just left shortly after, hence why the game wasn’t balanced.

          • DanDustEmOff

What like CoD 4 was balanced lol. Balance obsesion is a Treyarch thing. Games were more fun before people cared about balance.

          • The Devil

            You’re an idiot.

          • ccrows

West and Zampella were in charge of MW2, and they left the game unsupported. Jason West already has left Respawn early in development.

Unlimied tubes/nades/ammo should have been patched as soon as the community started exploiting them in MW2. Actually it should have been patched before the game was launched.

I’m a huge fan of COD, but I absolutely HATED MW2…

          • DanDustEmOff

No they did CoD 1,2,4 or MW and MW2 too

        • Batman

MW2 is has the best COD multiplayer ever.
Second best COD ever overall(just behind BO1)

    • Jon Cameron

Please specify why a Sci-Fi shooter is a bad idea.

      • The Devil

He’s saying its just not his taste.

      • ccrows

Sci-Fi games IMO are very niche. Especially since none of my friends play them. IDK it’s hard for me to get into futuristic war shooters. BO2 is pretty much my limit.

Plus I got burned out on Gears, Halo, ETC…

  • Rated-R619

I hoped a game to beat CoD, but no, they didn’t do it !

    • Blankaa

Yeh beacause you saw gameplay and played it right? smh

    • Jon Cameron

Yeah, I mean just because it’s a mech FPS, then it automatically is worse than a war shooter.

  • Mitch

When I first heard about respawn, I thought they would make a CoD clone, especially since they wanted the Modern Warfare license and killstreaks, well that didn’t happen!

    • Batman

      I wanted that too

  • lMattW

Very smart move to release it in the spring IMO. The big fall 2013 releases will be 4-6 months old and people will be looking for something new.

  • Hou5eR

This might be a game to look out for. They have had ample time since the studio formed to make one hell of a launch exclusive for Xbox one (console side at least). And with much of the talent from infinity ward they have years of FPS expertise. With E3 only a couple days away and a promised reveal i think we might have a 3 way battle royale between COD Ghosts, BF4, and Titanfall.

    • Jon Cameron

They’ve also had years to work on this game. Since after MW2, I believe? 4 years to develop this game.

  • xx420xx

    halo clone lmao

  • CODUNKILLABLE

People Hope And Pray But There Will Never Be A COD Killer!!!

    • Batman

There is one already, its called
      BATTLEFIELD

      • The Devil

Battlefield is not the same as Call Of Duty.

        • Batman

          But its better

          • The Devil

            So you say.

  • Zorak

what about ps4 or ps3 what hell just happened :~(

    • The Devil

      Xbox exclusive.

  • NoRating

As long as they are kids playing call of booty it will not be killed by another game.

  • Korflock

Good job ignoring the PS gamers. Have fun surviving without us.

    • Jon Cameron

Even though I’m a PC player, I know they will survive just fine with Xbox + PC c:

      • Niggas be nigglin

But right now it seems like the ps4 is diong much better on focasing on games, and the xbox one is slightly going for media and tv. So I believe more numbers could be on the playsation.

        • Jon Cameron

Yes, but this game is also on the 360. Not just the Xbox One (in terms of consoles).

  • MeisseN

“They thought working on PS4, Xbox One and PC would prove too difficult
for a small team, so they decided to focus on one console instead of
    two. ”

LMAO. 3 years. Team under EA.

No PS consoles whatsoever.. EA U MAD?

    • Jon Cameron

Good. It’s not good that the PS community won’t see it, but it’s good that they’re more focused on making a good game than worrying about who exactly will be playing it. You guys also get The Last of Us and no one else does. Fuck you.

      • MeisseN

Y fuk me.. I’m not a sony fan and give no shit about PS3/4, instead planning to get a XONE. I’m just saying how on earth they spent 3 years to create a game that excludes PS gamers.. especially it’s a game published by EA. It makes no sense, does multiplatform-ing really matters so much? Requires much more manpower? well if so they can delay the release, but now it’s receiving much more hatred from PS gamers.

        • Batman

          X1 is shit already

        • Jon Cameron

If you’re porting a game from the Xbox to the PlayStation, then it requires pretty much starting over. If it were a port from the Xbox to the PC, it doesn’t require much of a do over, however.

3 years though? Probably not. The point is they are more focused on making sure the game is as good as it can be. Maybe if they took another year or two, then I wouldn’t understand why.

    • Keshav Bhat

Do you realize who exactly Respawn is right? EA is just a “publishing agreement.” Not like Infinity Ward and Activision. Respawn works on the game completely then, EA publishes. For CoD, IW AND ATVI work on the game, then ATVI publishes.

It’s similar to Bungie and ATVI. ATVI is just doing PR, etc and Bungie is developing. And Respawn is “small team” because they are comprised of the 50 IW employees and a few new people.

      • MeisseN

What I want to say is that it’s weird for EA to let the group throw the game out without landing it on all PC Xbox and PS platforms.

        • Keshav Bhat

The game is coming to Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. They are apparently “skipping PlayStation” but they may add it later. We’ll know more Monday.
