In a recent interview with Kotaku, Mark Rubin has stated that the studio is currently ‘on the fence’ regarding whether or not they plan on brining back Black Ops II’s iconic CODCast mode for eSports. However, Ghosts does have a Spectator mode from where casters can be able to watch and cast games.

It sounds like Ghosts‘ development team is on the fence about whether Black Ops II‘s shoutcaster mode will return, but Rubin said that Ghosts will include spectator modes that are ideal for watching competitive matches.

Infinity Ward has already confirmed that Ghosts will be part of the MLG Circuit in 2014, and in Call of Duty: Championship 2014.

so they want to support Esports yet they are “on the fence” about CODcast?

    • HH KiLLaMaNiLLa

      yeah doesn’t make much sense

      • bsktballmsu1

they just said they wanted to support esports to get money but they don’t give 2 cents about it besides the money

  • Santana

Codcaster is what made COMP COD appealing to the eye.IMO

  • HH KiLLaMaNiLLa

I’m actually kinda glad they took out theater mode because it used up alot of system resources and honestly think is what weighed down the performance of BO2. Because you couldn’t turn off theater mode in BO2 like MW3 and BO1.

    • PuddingAuxRais1ns

I agree. Notice how every CoD with a theater mode played worse functionally and network wise in comparison to ones that didn’t. But Halo 4 has a theater mode and plays great netcode. Maybe it has something to do with the game engine that CoD uses. Maybe Ghost’s will have MW2-like lag comp.

      • bsktballmsu1

mw2 didn’t have lag comp just mw3 and bo2 im pretty sure

        • the1PR0D1GY

All multiplayer games have lag comp they have to or the host will always destroy you, it’s just the newer games have a more “punishing” lag comp than before to support players with crap internets

          • iPLAY 2 ANNOY U

NO! bo2 has false reading status bars…gives everyone full bars in the picture but really you’re lagging your ballsack off. host always has the obvious drop on you. so glad bo2 is almost over with. so much hate for that game.

        • Mw2 was made by a other IW

    • ccrows

I don’t see a problem with “the option” of having it (theater mode) if you had good internet.

Like in BO2, you couldn’t “stream” if you had basic DSL. IMO the option should have still been there.

I know it’s there (to record) in next gen consoles, but I refuse to buy next gen at launch. Year 2 is fine, but never again at launch. I had 2 RROD 360’s, and I’m not going down that road again. My friends also feel the exact same way too.

Tl;DR – IMO Theater mode should have still been an available to those whose connection speeds can support it…

Good, the whole E-sports thing annoyed me- I hope they don’t add it. Infact, I hope they get rid of any playlists relating to E-sports aswell. So little people play it that if it were a standard gamemode- they’d remove it. All the hardcore, try-hard pros ruin CoD anyway.

    • Mason / MrPS3skills

how do they ruin COD lol

      • James K

They’re harder to kill. Heh heh.

        • Mason / MrPS3skills

In other words this kid isn’t good.He should stick to pubs then and not league play lol.He does realise that Esports adds money to the gaming community.

          • Josiah Johnson

I understand that they only keep them
For a business stand point, but i still stand on my original comment. I’ll also admit that I’m not very good (KD=1.2ish, WL=1ish), but that is because I don’t play very often because of the terrible community that has ruined cod, not to mention I like to play other games too, and don’t have time to play cod all day.

        • Siftblade of Rivia

I played league play and it’s the same thing as pubs. I don’t understand the difference. I got dogs in league play, which surprised me, because I’m not very good at MP and I’ve only got dogs in pubs 3x before lol

      • Josiah Johnson

They ruin cod because they are the type of people that send you a hate message every time you kill them because they think that the GAME of CoD is a SPORT to be taken seriously! Most people just want to play them game- have fun, not listen to them complain and rage quit.

        • Mason / MrPS3skills

you’re thinking of little 12 year olds

    • MeowTingFam

      go and play pubs then…

      • Josiah Johnson

I do play pubs, but league play promotes hardcore, rage-quitting, corner camping try-hards that do ruin the experience! This stuff just didn’t happen in 2007.

        • Xeno

How does it promote rage-quitting if you get probation when you leave a game early? Yeah, league play caters to a different demographic of gamers who want to take the game seriously and improve their game. With your reasoning, professional sports leagues are stupid because they promote “try-hards”. Go play regular pubs and leave league to the players who it was designed for.

  • Adam

    Bring back theater.

  • Justin

you just cant have good esports without cod caster mode

  • Jack S.

I am still on the fence about calling it “e-SPORTS.” Period. Haha, it should just be called competitive gaming, which is what most people call it anyways.

    • TheEuroZone

It has always been called E-Sport in Europe..

  • NiftyGam3r

Couple of days ago i said IW would have to do a lot to bring me back to buy another game. Well they’ve done that and much more. Now i can go pre order and feel comfortable about it

  • Osaid

I never had any problems with bo2 mp, always 4 bars connection

    • Jack S.

You must be high, or have Google Fiber.

      • Usman Mohammad

Your line quality and ping matter. If you live in a old house that’s far away from the exchange and far away from the host you’re going to have a higher ping. If your line is old and susceptible to interference then it can lead to dropped packets, higher pings and jitter. That’s what determines if you have a 4 bar connection or not. Speed doesn’t play much into it.

If people experience low bar connection/lag in BO2, then you either have a bad quality line and/or the host lives much further away. You don’t need fibre to have a 4 bar connection in MP, as long as you get low pings and the line quality is great then you’re fine, my copper line does that, it just depends on how old the line and the building is, since back then they only planned to use copper for phone calls.

  • Howard Anthony Collings

Don’t see why it would not be included. It was a HUGE reason why eSports was successful in BO2. If they want to support eSports, they should keep CODcast!

  • Alex | FamousIsLIVE

I’m happy they removed theater mode, as every COD that has had it has suffered connection wise.
I do hope they have a COD Caster mode however. Makes competitive COD a lot better to watch and easier for the casters to setup and display information.

  • I’m sad to see theater go as it hurts my youtube channel for map reviews. But I hope they have an option to remove the HUD when spectating.

  • Super_Deluxe

Bring back theatre mode and CODCaster!

  • Siftblade of Rivia

WTF is codcaster. It’s always an option in custom games, but it doesn’t work. If I codcast, my friends cant hear me talk.

  • Josiah Johnson

As far as theater mode goes-
It was pretty cool, for a while; then I didn’t use it for a long time. On current gen, I’d rather have all this new stuff then loose out on something cool and get
Theater. And on next gen, the DVR isn’t as good as theater, but it isn’t worth their time to make it for only next gen when they already record.

  • DidUknowiPwn

Just for everyone to know there was some code in MW2 that had theater mode, but it wasn’t fixed until MW3. (But it was still enabled actually.)
