Some interesting images have surfaced today from users who have Ghosts early. The image shows that when you lean out, the enemy you’re firing at can’t actually see you. This could be a big issue for competitive players as it basically makes you invisible.

Don’t worry though, Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, Tina has addressed the concerns this morning and confirmed that the lean glitch will be fixed on launch day with a (Title update 1) patch.

I’m suprised they hadn’t noticed this already with all the time people have spent playing the game at Gamescom and EuroGamer. Given that it’s one of the new features, people would have been using it loads.

    • HurricaneY

Maybe this only works in certain places/maps?

      • HenryDF

Maybe, that’s a fair point actually – I heard something about them having to actually add the lean-function to every wall, something could have gone wrong there.

        • Batman

          Every wall has lean

Well, you were kinda right, precision is better on PC. But I wouldn’t say that precision is hard on console. When you get used to it, it isn’t that bad.

        True controllers > Keyboard

        • zHaKy!

You mean Aim Assist > Keyboard. Anyway on PC you usually aim with mouse, not with keyboard

          • Batman

Controllers are way more immersive, PC you just feel like you are pressing a button to shoot, in consoles you feel like you are shooting the real gun

          • Siftblade of Rivia

When I play PC I feel like I’m typing an essay. I want to write and essay than relax my hands on a comfortable controller, not keep my hands in the same cramping position as I click buttons.

        • Jon Cameron

What is a “true controller”? I know that CharlieIntel is probably console-based w/ its user base, and I’m not trying to start a stupid argument, but FPS games are best with kb+m. You can be good at FPS games w/ a controller, but being good w/ a controller is equal to being okay with a mouse.

It only makes sense that you’d be able to be more precise with your entire hand than just your thumbs. Let’s be real here for a minute.

Yes, I get it, consoles are more “convenient”, though that convenience is questionable when considering why it’s convenient. I’m not going any further into this, I just wanted to tell you that your statement is incorrect.

          flustered level – 4/10

          • Siftblade of Rivia

            Keyboard: More precise
            Controller: More comfortable, more fun
            Those are my opinions.

          • Jon Cameron

Whether or not you’re comfortable when playing is up to you. Some people it takes longer to get more comfortable, but I 100% guarantee anyone that if they play for however long they need to, they’ll get to the point where it becomes comfortable.

Let’s take a minute and think about what you’re saying, though. You’re saying holding a controller is more comfortable. The problem is, you’re basically keeping your hands in one place, in one position. The exception is your thumbs moving almost constantly, or at least your right thumb more so than your left. The other exception is your occasional index or middle finger movement, which is honestly not any more movement than moving a finger from one key on the keyboard to another.

Putting the human anatomy, or at least the hand, into consideration, it’s probably better to have your fingers stretched in a straightish formation for a decent amount of time than it is having them curled for the same amount of time.

Like I said, man, it’s all about your decisions in terms of how comfortable you can be. The only thing controllers really have over mice is that you don’t need to decide if you aim with your wrist (which will over time end up giving you carpal tunnel) or with your arm.

tldr controllers are not really that much better for being comfortable

          • Siftblade of Rivia

I said in my opinion. Maybe I’m just a hands on guy.

    • NiftyGam3r

Game wasnt finished when they played it then. The people complaining are the ones who have launch copies early

      • HenryDF

I guess a lot of it wasn’t finished – if you compare quickscoping in Gamescom footage to leaked footage, it is quite different.

        • Shardlotte

Or, you know, they tweaked the quickscoping after Gamescom.

    • KernosT

that was a pre build they played maybe IW were stupid they made this mistake in the final build

  • I hope the PC version will be patched too…

    • fsdgasdg

hahahah yeah right like they give a fuck about us
no fov slider – they dont care

      • Sentrymann

I’ve never gotten the fov slider thing, why is that so important? I’m not trying to hate, I’m legitimately curious.

        • fsdgasdg

we sit really close to a monitor and a low FOV hurts our eyes.. i tried playing bo2 with 65 fov today on my pc (console fov) to see how will i handle ghosts and i couldnt play more then 1 minute.. this is insane

          • Siftblade of Rivia

I sit on a comfortable couch with a large TV and I can enjoy the game no matter what settings are restricted. But you have fancier dust particles, and somehow that makes you a master race (Not you in particular, PC Elitists in general).

        • Primey_

A low FOV in a pc game can bring on nausea for some people. I can last roughly 30 minutes of playing a game with very low fov then I need to take a break. I stop feeling nausea when the fov gets to around 90 hence why a fov slider is so important. Some people just prefer a large fov then there’s some people who need it to comfortably play the game.

          • Jon Cameron

That’s a reason, sure, but most people are used to play games with higher FOV because it allows them to see more of their surroundings.

      • Jon Cameron

Someone will probably make something like MW3’s FOV slider and either a) it’ll force IW to allow us to use it as I’m sure A LOT of people will use it, or b) they’ll end up implementing one like they said they’ll consider.

I know they’re not really PC dudes, albeit I’m sure there being some on the team (which makes this more ridiculous), but they have to understand that changeable FPS is a part of our culture. It has no effect on console players whatsoever, and I’m confident enough to say that at least 90% of PC players will use it if there was one, so an “unfair advantage” wouldn’t be an issue.

  • Batman

    WOW Patched before launch

  • NotoriousDLB

big issue for competitive players? because the other 99.9% of us wouldnt care?

    • HenryDF

You say that, but you really would care when you’re doing quite well and suddenly you just die for apparently no reason or you can’t see the enemy killing you. Doesn’t always matter if you’re competitive or not 😛

      • NotoriousDLB

thats the point I do care, the article is written in a way to suggest that it affects them without hurting the game as a whole

        • HenryDF

Oh, ok, sorry, I didn’t realise you were being sarcastic

    • Vizz

How wouldn’t you care? It effects everyone that plays the game, you can’t see them, at all……..

      • SuperNova

        1. He was being sarcastic.

        2. Do you not see the “?” at the end of his sentence?

    • lMattW

I wouldn’t be surprised if the rules require it to be disabled regardless of how well they fix it.

    • Common Sense

You wouldn’t care about a guy being invisible shooting you, but yet you complain about shotguns that kill instantly? Right…. something tells me you don’t know too much about anything. Possibly a TmarTn fanboy? or is it Ali-A?

      • NotoriousDLB

please read my other comment, no need for name callin if you dont even understand what Im saying

        • Common Sense

the point is the vast majority of pub players seem to think that catering to competitive players is very very bad, but yet they scream balance in the same sentence. it is absolutely amazing the irony and hypocrisy in it all.

          • Moose

eSports are bringing so much money and popularity to games. It’s common sense to focus on the competitive side of gaming anymore.

          • Markdg23

eNOTsports does not bring nearly as much money to the CoD franchise as the general consumer!

          • Moose

General Consumer still buys when they focus on competitive. Please our community first. Learn to deal with it.

          • Mario Rivera

its incredible how dumb some of u guys are, he was obviously being sarcastic. the only irony and hyprocrisy is your username being ”common sense” lol

  • ThtJstHapnd

My question is… How did something this big not get caught in beta? That’s insane. Imagine the game breaking things they didn’t find, if something this obvious slides past them.

    • Chris Mason

Because people make mistakes. See extended mag glitch, model 1887s from mw2, javelin glitch, vanishing peacekeepers, unbalanced weapons, etc. People miss shit. No need to start preaching woe and doom.

      • ThtJstHapnd

Those are all glitches, bugs. This is a feature they showed in a promo video showing it off. How does no one notice if people leaning out aren’t seen? Doesn’t give me ease knowing something this big got past them. Any person(like the ones that caught it) would have tried that first hand. I remember when it was announced, I told my friend, I can’t wait to see how much they appear out and if its unbalanced. I said that back in April, yet they missed it.

        • Chris Mason

Because 1) leaning is only new to consoles and Ghost, they’ve had leaning on PC for some time and 2) maybe the issue centers around dynamic map elements which ARE a new thing for the franchise. Just some things to consider.

      • Siftblade of Rivia

See GTA Online, Rockstar Servers for more info about mistakes.

  • Primey_

    Not Balanced For Lean.

  • Assassin5150

head glitches better be fixed on next gen

    • ip x Warrior

      U can’t fix a head glitch..

      • WHCookie

Yes – you can. It’s a glitch in the Quake engine that Call of Duty has always based their engines off and they could have fixed it in the new engine they designed for ghosts.

        • fsdgasdg

its not a new engine 😐 still the old one with improvments

          • WHCookie

            bugger :/

          • Brandalf

Serious question here for you, is Frostbite 3 a new engine or an upgraded Frostbite 2? Hint: Most will get this wrong.

        • subtekjr

Wow. It’s not the Quake engine, most if not all games have the camera located in the head of a player, and the only logical place for bullets to come out of in a balance sense is the place where the camera is. That’s why we have crosshairs and making the bullets come out of the gun would screw with aiming big time. The only way headglitching could be fixed is by eliminating all head-high or crouchhead-high cover. Which would make for a boring game unless the cover was completely inbetween.

          • WHCookie

I didnt’t say it was the Quake engine, I said Call of Duty engines are BASED off the Quake engine. If they were to use a completely new engine, there is the potential that the bullets could come out of your chin rather than your eyes, so that were the bullets are travelling from is closer to where the the barrel of the gun actually is. Drift0r did a brilliant video on head-glitching a few months ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPYPJpcEQEE

      • Batman

Yes you can, just switch the hitscans to real bullets with physics

  • splash02

I saw some leaked gameplays and there are still stupid things from MW3 like spawn protection and the losing earned killstreaks glitch. I really hope they will fix this stuff after launch

    • Brandalf

Spawn protection isn’t stupid…if you’re spawning in front of people or near people it’s absolutely a needed feature and it was a big mistake when they patched it out of BO2.

      • splash02

I ment spawn protection from explosive and killstreak weapons, like when you get only hitmark with semtex stuck or shooting ac130 right next to the guy and get hitmark. That’s one of the things made the assault killstreaks almost useless

        • Brandalf

It’s still needed in that situation, IMO. Spawn trapping is spawn trapping regardless of how you do it.

          • Samuel Fogle

Check and mate. FluXuate makes a valid point.

    • Siftblade of Rivia

Been looking for some. Got a link?

  • Common Sense

To all the pub players who say this won’t affect them, are you mental? Yes it will affect you, the try hards in pubs will exploit this if they can. I can’t wait to hear you all complaining about something like this in Ghosts. If you want to have fun in public lobbies, you need to have a balanced game. You shouldn’t be b.s’d in pubs. Yet Ghosts devs have made it clear they are not interested in making the game “balanced”.

    • Brandalf

The majority of the pub players saying it won’t effect them are being sarcastic because of how absurd it is that Tina actually said that it will effect the competitive players….

      • Common Sense

I don’t underestimate the stupidity of pub players anymore, their logic seems to be based on whatever TmarTn or Ali-A tells them. And the entire game will have to be overhauled to make this game competitive. You got marksman rifles that kill in 1 shot to the head or 2 shots at any range. AR’s that kill in 2 shots, smgs that are basically the same. Maps that are horrid for competitive. and not enough settings to do anything with for competitive. something as simple as turning off the music isn’t even implemented.

        • SuperNova

And you act like TmarTn and Ali-A are the only imformative Call of Duty players. They are YouTubers big woop. And who cares if people watch them? Maybe some of us like the content they put out for call of duty.

          • Common Sense

spoken like a true fanboy. you do realize they get paid to promote these games right?

          • SuperNova

Who cares? They get paid. They are over the age of 18, so they are old enough to promote and earn money as they choose. Who are you to criticize other people based on who they enjoy?

          • Chris Mason

I get paid by a dealership to sell labor and parts to another department in the same dealership. What’s your point? Its called a job.

          • Brandalf

I think his point is this “FUCK JOBS!” Or something along those lines of logic…..

          • Chris Mason

I wouldn’t call that logic. I tried doing the YouTube thing, but with a full time job paying as well as I get paid, wife, kids, etc. I gave up on YT. But I respect people who make a living off it. Make it how you can make it, I say.

          • Brandalf

Ya, that was pretty much my point xD

        • Brandalf

All of those things are fine with me, After the disaster that was BO2 I don’t want COD to ever base design decisions on the pro circuit again. BO2 has been the most miserable COD experience ever for those of us that don’t give two shits about the pro scene.

          • Common Sense

you have to be stupid. the only probs was the connection lmao.

          • Brandalf

I have a different opinion than you, so I must be stupid? Makes sense. /endsarcasm

I could go on and on about what is wrong with BO2 but the thing is I don’t have to justify my opinion to you our anybody else.

          • Moose

Blops 2 was probably the best cod since Cod4. The connection was about the only thing wrong Blops2

          • Brandalf

BO2 was terrible. It catered to one and only one playstyle.

The spawns were shit, the maps were too small, one weapon class dominated the rest. Connection was shit, hitboxes were shit, guns were boring, hipfire was more effective than ADS most of the time.

COD4 was balanced around all playstyles and didn’t cater to one or the other, same as MW2 and BO1. BO2 is a terribly designed game. If you disagree that’s fine because you’re entitled to your opinion.

          • Moose

If you played on LAN you would understand how great Blops 2 was. It brought so much popularity to comp.

          • Brandalf

I don’t play on LAN and I don’t care a bit about the pro scene. I want a game that is fun and entertaining and minimally frustrating. That’s the type of game developers should be developing. The pro players are a small portion of the people that play MP games and an entire game should not be designed to their specifications.

Ghosts is doing it right. Design the game for the general public and the include features for the pro players to take advantage of such as COD casting and custom rulesets/MLG rules, etc. That was the major fail of BO2 IMO.

          • coolwhhhip

Ultimately, if Ghosts isn’t your cup o tea, you can go back to bo2. It isn’t going anywhere.

        • Cycovision

Yeah, except no MR kills in 2 at “any” range minimum damage is 49 a 3 shot kill. Oh and the RoF is only 400 rpm.
The only AR that is 2 hit is a burst rifle.

  • david

    Wow !

  • joYnt

The only reason no-one talked about this thing is that every low console players (i mean xbox and ps) never had the LEAN feature that is normally for pc community, like in cod2 cod4 bo1 and bo2.
Console player neither use the LEAN feature…

  • Batman

    Guys I have a question

What if Im in the US and I play a match with ONLY people from japan.

Will the dedicated servers balance the gameplay for both sides? Or I will have advantage, or the japanese will have advantage?

    Please answer

    • Michael

Since it’s on a Japanese server, they’ll have a far lower ping than you, so they’ll have the advantage.

      • WHCookie

As they using a combination of dedicated servers and listen servers, it is possible that you would be on a listen server – if you (in the US) are the host, then you will have the advantage over all of them, but if one of them is host, then they will have the advantage over you. The same applies if you on a dedicated server – those geographically closest to the server will have a better connection and therefore have the upper hand.

        • Batman

What if the distance between me and the other players are not that big, like mexico-USA?

          • WHCookie

Then the difference probably will be negligible, especially if you’re on a dedicated server in the south of the US or north of mexico. Even if players were in north US and south Mexico, it’s still unlikely a difference in ping would be noticeable in gameplay. Normally unbalanced connections are cross-continent.

      • Batman

What if Im in Brazil and the other guy is in the US? Will I have too much advantage or I will be lagging?

    • Siftblade of Rivia

Why would you be in a Japanese lobby? Don’t they base matchmaking off location?

  • Lorhelm

I was soooo looking forward to this feature too! please tell me that they will fix and add it in later

    • Brandalf

Did you even read the article? Tina said it’s going to be fixed through the day 1 patch…

      • Lorhelm

LOL woops i was thinking that they were taking out XD thanks…btw is that a ghosts pumpkin?

  • Josh

IW games are full of glitches, I guess it’s going to be one of many at launch day LOL

    • WHCookie

That’s a bit harsh to single out IW – most games are full of glitches at launch!

      • Josh

I wasn’t trying to single them out, but it’s true and other games do have glitches too. It’s going to be a great game anyway.

    • ViViDesigns

Oviously you didn’t play GTA Online at launch….. Most games do have lots of glitches at launch. Suck it up 😀

      • Siftblade of Rivia

Especially at launch. GTA is running fine for me now.

  • WHCookie

For all the people complaining that they hadn’t found it, at least they have acknowledged it exists BEFORE LAUNCH, and have agreed to fix it on launch day.

  • mountkarma

reminds me of the good old COD: united offensive days. Now that was the real stuff.

  • cape6

this is why COD needs a beta… the people who test these games suck and clearly cant find issues.

    • Mitch

CoD always has an Beta at the developer’s office, and a lot of people have played the at events.

  • James K

On a negative trait, amount of people planning to utilize leaning in the game will reduce to zero after reading this news.

  • JuggerNaut

Look at the corner! Demolition? or SnD?

    • Guest

      Well what the heck?

      • Brandalf

I believe this same guy was trolling on the COD Ghosts Steam forums about already having preloaded the game.

    • ip x Warrior

SnD there’s no Demolition in ghosts..

  • Emre

    LAG COMP!

  • Jake

she didnt have to be such a bitch in the tweet

    • Ed

i think if everyone tweeting her is allowed to be such dicks, it’s ok for her to be a tad bit moody every now and then. they jump down the wrong people’s throats and then wonder why nothing gets done.

  • PUNK_AND_GOTH

lean new? nope was on pc for ages!

    • Samuel Fogle

      Congratulations.

  • Meow

It’s so funny how their precious “innovative” lean feature is actually the biggest game breaking thing to happen in a CoD game. Knowing IW, it wont be patched for a while, because they can never get their patched right! MW3 still needs about 10 more patches to make it perfect, and that’s never gonna happen.

    • Guest

That’s why Tina said in that exact tweet that it’s being patched in the Day 1 patch. Genius.

  • jooker-jr

Head glitch please don’t come back

  • Atrocity

    It’s patched now.
