Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey from Sledgehamer Games just took the stage at GDC 2014 in San Francisco and revealed a in-game render of one of the characters in this year’s Call of Duty (2014). The image only appeared for half a second at the beginning of the presentation, and because of this, there is no picture of it.

Sledgehammer Games also said that Call of Duty 2014 is the “most ambitious, most creative game we’ve ever made.” Sledgehammer Games is now consisted of 200 staff members developing on this year’s title. They have not revealed any other details about the game.

Sledgehammer Games previously worked on Modern Warfare 3 alongside Infinity Ward. Activision in February of 2014 announced that the company is transtioning to a 3 year development cycle, meaning SHGames, IW, and Treyarch will switch off. Sledgehammer Games is working on Call of Duty 2014, and the game is going to be ‘next-gen’ first development priority. Rumor suggests High Moon Studios may be working on porting the game to Xbox 360 & PS3, allowing SHGames to fully focus on the next gen versions.

I am so excited for this game, please Sledgehammer tease us with an image of some kind 🙂

  • CoDforever

Holy shit just get the video and stop the frame in which the model is shown!

    • Keshav Bhat

      There is no video.

      • CoDforever

So .. we aint ever gonna see it? Have you seen it in person?

        • jordanxbrookes

This info comes from GameSpot, so I doubt Keshav saw it.

        • Keshav Bhat

We have not seen it, and I don’t know if or when they’ll ever show the image to the public.

          • CoDforever

I mean come on, theres gotta be someone who filmed this .. whether it be IGN or GS ..

          • SoulTaker

Just wait E3 is coming in a few months be patient.

  • CoDforever

200 people working on it? That’s way more than people that work at InfinityWard!

    • MichiganerE

Yep. So we now know for sure Sledgehammer doesn’t need help from another developer on their game.

  • If it’s MW4, I will be very upset. Not disappointed – upset.

  • CoDforever

IS THERE ANY PICTURE OR VIDEO OF IT AT ALL?

    • jordanxbrookes

Apparently the character model according to GameSpot was impressive.

      • CoDforever

How could they tell if it was only up for only a fraction of a second lmao

        • jordanxbrookes

Shouldn’t you be asking the guys over at GS that 😉

  • Lord Beerus

    And the plot thickens…

  • TheShadowReaper

i’m really really looking forward to what they come up with. i will be very disappointed if its just another MW game, cause if a game is teased “most ambitious ever” but still follows the footsteps of an old and dead generation then you cant call it neither most, nor ambitious imo.

    • CoDforever

who cares if its MW4? Only the Campaign will be different whether they created a new sub-franchise or not. The MP will stay the same regardless and after ghosts, i’d rather see MW4 than a new shitty sub series.

      • TheShadowReaper

who said anything about the campaign? its the multiplayer i’m talking about here. the campaign will be good even if its MW4 or whatever, doesnt matter. the multiplayer will be a dejavou all over again! and i dont want that. i’ve had enough of dejavous in Ghosts.

        • CoDforever

Wait wait .. how does the name of the game affect the multiplayer? Whether it called MW4 or CoD; Legend of Prostitutes, it will still feature the exact same content. Imagine if Ghosts was called MW4, the content of the MP will still remain the same (Including the “innovations” such as Character customization, dynamic maps, 30 new guns, 7 new game modes, 20 new killstreaks, bigger and boring maps, terrible spawns etc)

          • TheShadowReaper

it does. there’s tons of differences between a Black Ops game and a Modern Warfare game. while both are COD games the guns handle differently, the pallete colors seem to be different by a huge amount, the killstreaks have some differences in usage and gameplay, the perks are different, the weapons handle different and so on and so forth. while the differences are minor (which is the reason all of these games are COD games) they are there and make every COD unique. while the MW games are more close, for example, MW2 is more like MW1 and MW3 cause they are all MW COD games but BO doesnt share as much with them as it shares with BO2 and WaW. the only thing that connects these games is gameplay. so lets hypothetically say that the COD franchise takes a drastic change towards futuristic warfare, even adding lasers and such, would it feel like a Modern Warfare game or a Black Ops game? NO! it may share the same gameplay but thats where the connection ends. get it? and thats why i didnt liked Ghosts. while they told us its new its was a dejavou MW3 all over again just 10 times worse than MW3.

          • idc219

Unless they have a new engine it will be same old bullshit

    • 111AlaN111

What Activision says before a COD is realized:

MW3- “This is the best COD until now. It’s so ambitious and fans will be blown away”

BO1- “This is the best COD until now. It’s so ambitious and fans will be blown away”

BO2- “This is the best COD until now. It’s so ambitious and fans will be blown away”

Ghosts- “This is the best COD until now. It’s so ambitious and fans will be blown away”

But I really think this game will be great. SH will try to prove us that they also can do the job and will make the best they can. Hope to see more info soon

      • TheShadowReaper

well with the exception of Ghosts, the other 3 you list were pretty close to fulfilling their role.

  • Pinda

So did no-one get it on tape then?

  • I’m a really big fan on Scholfield and Condrey. These two seem to always have a plan. I expect big things from them. Especially after MW3

    • CoDforever

MW3 was terrible. I admit i had fun with it, but that can be said of about any game. Mw3 lacked innovation, it was the definition of “Copy-Paste” And by supporting MW3, your telling them that we want another MW3, that they can copy paste as much as you want!

      • some2example2

well, looking back mw3 was underrated. at least it felt like some form of call of duty.

        • thejamondj2.0

yeah mw2 and mw3 best cod entertainment,

what we want is something like, haha, the real players are looking for a type of mw2 and mw3 <3.

        • Matt

Apart from the overpowered deathstreaks and perks, the game was really enjoyable. I rarely got bored of it

          • MW, MW2 and MW3 are like Titanfall, I have fun playing these games with friends.
Okay, MW3 was not made by the creators of the series but it was fun to play it.

        • Baldmanz_RAGE

Now that Ghosts is out. It is safe to say that MW3 is a better COD which is something that i never thought I would say.

          • Sal

Don’t go full retard. MW3 is still the worst modern CoD.

          • Baldmanz_RAGE

Do you ever post a comment without insults. Juvenile! Use Google If you are not sure of the definition.

          • pulseimpact

Ghosts is far better than MW3.

          • Baldmanz_RAGE

            Why?

          • Sal

Better hit detection, snipers and LMGs actually have a place, no gun leveling bullshit, no overpowered MP7/ACR, and no maps of the size of a needle head.

          • SharkieINF

worst COD is Ghost by far. I say this because, of all the aspects to the game, playing it gave off a battlefield feeling to it. I don’t hate Battlefield but i like CoD better and I don’t want to be playing Battlefield when I want to play CoD. I miss the fast-paced FPS I know and love and Ghost was not it. All these Giant Maps that take decades to get across was a let down. Even with that cranked bullshit. And no hardpoint or ctf? Definitely worse CoD. Lol Made all guns super accurate and called it balancing them ha. Second worst would be MW3. No passion in that game what so ever. MW2 could of been best CoD, but instead of fixing bugs and nerfing what they needed too, everyone was money hungry. Best CoD overall is Black Ops 2. Only 2 problems it had which was the host being a GOD and it didnt run as smooth as it should but it indeed has to be one of the best CoDs if not the best. Now only thing good about Ghost is its smooth play. Treyarch take that smoothness plz.

          • Sal

Isn’t Ghosts what you guys wanted? A different CoD game? Bigger maps?

Screw you all, you’re just a bunch of wankers.

          • Yeah we asked for bigger maps, not maps with a bazillion camping spots so people actually forget how to move in the game… MW3 maps were boring because the maps were so locked down with nothing you could use for simple cover to be strategic. Ghosts has gone the complete opposite direction and made the maps too complicated with too many camping spots and the worst spawn system known to man…And I also note a lack of promised dedicated servers on PS4..

hoping that in 2.5 years they would have found that middle ground

          • Sal

It’s ironic because I’m the biggest headless chicken there is (unless I have an LMG or sniper), and I barely die to campers… at all.

The spawn system also isn’t as bad as before.

      • Joeldagod

you do know everybody have their own opinions on call of duty

      • Keshav Bhat

That’s your opinion about MW3. I liked that game.

        • Same

          • [email protected]

bring back the original IW / COD team – COD 2 on PC was the best ever!

          • Unreal

so truee they shouldn’t copy and paste like they did in ghost and mw3… treyarch games at least are a bit more innnovative … oh and i hope they use Unreal engine 4 this time (well it just came out so maybe not) becasue the quake 3 engine is really old why use that shit to make cod

          • Ben

They’re using their own engine since 2007 (or earlier)…. yes, it’s based on id Tech 3, but how much code they using from it, 1% or less?

It’s not the engine’s fault that they don’t create models with more polygons, adjust lightning and stuff… it’s just the lack of creativity and lazyness. And the fact that their main platform is old consoles…

          • Beto Castro

I don’t think they will come back they’re at Respawn Entertainment.

        • CoDforever

isnt that the point of the comment section, to share your opinion

          • Daniel Crosbie

True, but it was hardly a terrible game, they changed plenty, an people still complain…

          • Brady the Defiled (sillibk)

Probably because people used nothing BUT ACRs and MP7s.

          • Baldmanz_RAGE

            Amen!

          • Keshav Bhat

But you don’t have to attack others who feel otherwise.

          • CoDforever

I wasnt attacking by any means, sorry if it seemed that way.

          • Josh

You didn’t say it was your opinion, you specifically said “MW3 was terrible” as a fact. Personally I feel it was a great game, and of course there will be some elements of “coping and pasting”. This is because it was next in the MW series and obviously they should look similar but you need to remember this was around the time when IW split and sledgehammer games was brought in to get the game finished in time for release, so for this reason it may have seemed rushed or unfinished.

      • thejamondj2.0

want another copy paste of mw2 <3 ,

        cod ghost: bo2 + bf = shit.. -.-.
I had fun with mw2 and mw3, I hope you return those moments with my friends, we are waiting for 2012.

      • tobi xw

tell me what did u hate about mw3 I only hate 2 things deadmans hand ,and assassins….that game was ok wasent the best wasent the worst….

        • Second son over Titan fall

OP death streaks support streaks assasin ACR mp7 portable radar shitty maps and too much spawn protection against KS

        • Me personally, I hated how they never fixed the three weapons that populated over %70 of the lobbies, being the ACR, MP7 and MP9. Also I didn’t like how every map, no matter how big, played like a small to medium map dues to all the unnecessary shit cluttering the battlefield.

          • Daniel Crosbie

What was wrong with the ACR ?

        • Juicyjuice

Don’t forget about the Stealth Bomber!!!

        • Batman

Terrible spawns on every single map, bad map design, alot of OP weapons like the fmg9, acr, mp7, mp9…. deathstreaks like final stand and dead mans hand, weapon design, OP support killstreaks like juggernaults, stealth bomber and ballistic vests, they removed alot of things that made mw2 awesome, they copied mw2 in almost every aspects, lack of map interaction, no gun dlc even though they promissed it, terrible campaign and spec ops as well as the soundtrack

      • ^DELUSIONAL^

I really enjoyed MW3, even though it was a ‘copy and paste’ of MW2 it was still a great game

      • fires

Okay, just forget the fact they introduced points for ability towards scorestreaks. or the fact they introduced proficiency, which were integrated into perks, or different strike packages, which paved the way to the pick 10 system. You dont make money off of a copy-paste, yet they did. They may feel the same, but Copy-pasting an experience is fine by my standards, as i easily got my money back

        • Bmeowmix

Proficencies weren’t very innovative and points for objective play wasn’t all that much of a game changer. And I’m still confused on how strike packages “paved the way” for Pick Ten

      • Rorke File

That game was the absolute rush game with specialist and the action you had …

      • Pinda

I played every CoD since MW1 and I enjoyed MW3 the most

      • pulseimpact

MW3 = lowest and worst skillgap in multiplayer, good campaign

      • ben wills

MW3 looked like a copy paste, but it was a very different game. And it was mighty awful.

      • Im saying I would like to see them improve from MW3

      • I thought the same thing about MW3 when it first came out, but I kinda miss it after playing the non thought out and probably over ambitious Ghosts (which is the first COD I’ve actually stopped playing before the next one is out..and it’s only March!)

  • CoDforever

“most ambitious, most creative game we’ve ever made.” But they have only made 1 game, lmao which was MW3. MW3 also happens to be the opposite of innovation

    • jordanxbrookes

Don’t forget these guys did make the Dead Space franchise 🙂

      • Guest

oh. thought when they said “us” they meant Sledgehammer games. oh well

      • NuttyTheSquirrel

So??? Dead Space was a great game. But we can’t say it was “innovative”. Yes it’s a horror game, in space, with monsters A.K.A. “infected” people. I fucking loved the game, BUT, Dead Space is very different from an FPS game. There’s no need for weapon/perks/attachments/maps balance in Dead Space.

        • Plok

Point being they know how to make a big name title.

    • 111AlaN111

IW gave the ideas and all. SH just helped them out. I think altought Activision always says the same shit: “This will be the best COD until now”, I think that this game will still be great

      • fires

SH did multiplayer. IW worked mainly on everything else

        • Sledgehammer did story I’m pretty sure. I’m not %100 but the story was sooo much more emotionally driven than any IW campaign to date.

          • jordanxbrookes

When you say IW do you mean the original IW guys or the latest IW guys, because if it was the latter than I agree with you as I didn’t find really any emotion in the Ghosts campaign. Don’t get me wrong it was a great campaign, but it’s not like when Elias was killed I was on the verge of crying unlike Soap’s death in MW3.

          • I meant a mix of both I guess. The old IW seemed to make a campaign as if you’re just a cog in the war machine, not really any emotional ties until the last act of MW2. They seemed to remake a sort of Micheal Bay movie. lol. And the New IW gave you absolutely no time to delve into the story or characters, which made me not care enough about them. All it was, was: go to this area; shoot Brazilians. Both can be true, but I was mainly linking Ghosts and MW3 in my last post.

        • PandaMan

Raven Software did majority of the multiplayer actually

    • Bigi345

The only thing they did in MW3 was polishing it, everything else is IWs MW3 is a IW lead project. so you can’t judge them based of MW3

      • CoDforever

Everyone said the opposite before ghosts was released.

        • ….and then ghosts came out

  • NuttyTheSquirrel

I like how, since MW3, every dev said that. MW3 was going to be the “most ambitious and most creative CoD game” , BO2 was going to be the “most ambitious and most creative CoD game”, Ghosts was going to be the “most ambitious and most creative CoD game”. and now “MW4” IS going to be the “most ambitious and most creative CoD game”. All I have to say is… Meh…

  • Adam

MW3 was the worst CoD game so…

    • thejamondj2.0

but it was entertaining, it is a ghost cod real shit with black ops 2.

  • thejamondj2.0

I had fun with mw2 and mw3, I hope you return those moments with my friends, we are waiting for 2014.

  • nickcage

look out for faggot alia, ya bish . out

    • tobi xw

I like alia’s content not so much the gamplay but the info is greatly explained……

  • SoulTaker

I’ll be honest I just bought MW3 again for some odd reason. (ebay it was 3 bucks and no one else bid on it so I said why not.) It arrived today been playing it and it’s pretty fun again maybe cause all the pros are gone also double xp is on lol. Anyways I hope they figure something out ! The only problem I have is they always manage to fuck up somehow!! COD 4: Grenades need I say more? WAW:MP40 overpowered never fixed MW2: OMA noobtubes danger close commando, deathstreaks BO:Last Stand Famas AK74U MW3: Deathstrikes…again, the support strike package, some OP stuff BO2: TARGET FINDER LMG COMBO nuff said. And Ghosts: IEDs are the only thing that annoy me.

    • guest

you literally just named all the bs i dont like in those games lol. all still great games though!

    • Daniel Crosbie

To be fair, it’s fairly easy to avoid IED’s 🙂

    • cRi7iCaL

Wait! Ghosts: ridiculous low TTK causing many “connection-kills” (you are already around the corner and get shot), support streaks (especially Ballistic Vests, support squadmate and Oracle), oversized maps without any flow, guard dog, Danger Close-C4-Riot Shield-Combo, Ping, Deadeye and much more

      • SoulTaker

Gotta agree with some of those as well. 😛

  • lMattW

200 means they’re bigger than IW. Add in more development time and I think it’s fair to expect a higher quality release. Not a better game necessarily, but fewer bugs and problems.

    • Aldo

Does anyone know when they actually started developing this game though? I just hope you’re right!

      • lMattW

They started this after finishing with MW3 which was probably not too long after IW started Ghosts. Raven Software reportedly did most of the DLC work for MW3 so maybe spring/summer 2012.

  • Ryumoau

All this news is making me more and more excited!! 😀

  • Bmeowmix

I just hope they know what they’re doing, unlike a certain CoD dev that made the ‘thing’ called Ghosts

    • Devin Wolfe

      Ghosts was a test.

      • well they failed the test then didn’t they

        • Devin Wolfe

It was a test of the new hardware and a new engine so its not going to go perfect.

  • RScel

Mw3 had a fun factor to it, through all the bullshit it always brought me back,

    • Plok

Completely agree. Something about the bunching up of enemies and the satisfaction of even a single kill was far more than in any other CoD. Maybe it had to do with specialist or the fact that the points you earned for a kill popped out at you and it would be a huge number if you got a multi-kill. In BO2 they missed this and it would still say 100 for a multi with no theatrics. That was a huge underlying fun factor for me anyways.

  • cesc-2007

Ive had lots of fun on MW2 and MW3 even ghost. Sure some bits need sorting out but im sure SH will come good.

  • Nightmare

Lol at ps4 trying to get early dlc for cod. BECAUSE XBOX ONE IS DOMINATING WITH TITANFALL and they realize they arent the big game on xbox anymore. Stay salty cod LOL. and ps4 you can have that shit while we enjoy real next gen fps. TITANFALL.

    • poop

you are a retarded xbox one is not destroying cod in any way. and in case you have not heard “titanfall 2 is gonna be on ps4 🙂

      • TheShadowReaper

if there is ever a second game. from what i’ve seen the game has reached its maximum potential. if it goes to be CODed or BFed it will flop really bad.

        • greg

How has it possibly reached its “maximum potential”?! There are a ton of different directions the Titanfall series could become with a sequel.

Stop acting like you know design and how a series will become with a sequel.

          • TheShadowReaper

ok then, we shall wait until that 2nd game, if it ever launches so that i can laugh my ass off at your face when its nothing of a big deal as a game. its already nothing amazing to speak of so…yeah.

  • DEEERRRRPPIDO

please shgames, please make a cod we can enjoy. we have to wait forever for a treyarch game, and iw is basicly over

  • Aldo

People love to hate on MW3 and say it was a copy and paste of MW2, no innovation etc. but the truth is it was a very fast paced, fun CoD that had a few problems but nothing as big as some are suggesting.

Copy and Paste? No innovation? Hardly…
    1. Introduction of Strike Packages. Great idea, especially the Specialist Class.
    2. Ability to assign Killstreaks to different Classes.
    3. Pointstreaks replaced killstreaks. (although I still prefer to call them killstreaks!)
    4. Killstreak gauge on HUD
    5. Ability to choose order of Killstreaks.
    6. Proficiencies.
    7. Ability to hear chat of people you’ve killed.
    8. New perks; Marksman and Stalker.
    9. New game modes: Kill Confirmed, Infected, Dropzone and Team Defender
    10. Hybrid Scope.
    11. Face Off Matches: 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 on Specially designed maps.
    12. Prestige Shop allowing you to buy items you want to keep after prestiging.
    13. MOAB (25 gun killstreak)

What they didn’t get right imo:
    1. Deathstreaks. What were they thinking? Dead Man’s Hand is especially annoying!
    2. Stealth Bomber should have been an Assault Streak not Support.
    3. EMP should have required more points to get.
    4. Assassin is too OP.
    5. Striker shotgun and FMG akimbo are OP.
    6. Pump shotguns needed a buff.
    7. Sit-Rep Pro should not counter Dead Silence.

People say ACR and MP7 are op but I disagree. Both are good all rounders but both lose against other guns in their category in certain situations. For example in CQC the MP7 won’t kill as fast as PP90M1, PM9 or UMP45!
I have over 70 hours of game time on MW3 and still enjoy playing it because it’s fast and action packed, and generally well balanced.

    • MazeMatik

I agree, MW3 was very innovative and brought a lot of new stuff in the franchise!

I really liked the multiplayer and everything they introduced to it such as Strike Packages, Weapons Proficiencies, the Prestige Shop and the best of all: Clan Level, Emblems and Titles along with the Operations and daily Challenges of course!

I’ve been playing CoD since the very first title on PC and I never stopped playing every game of the franchise years after years and so far I think my favorite CoD is MW3 although I did like Black Ops I a lot!

As for Sledgehammer Games, I gotta say I will remain suspicious until I see some pictures and footage of their game. The multiplayer gameplay and graphics are very important to me but since I founded my clan during MW3 well everything that has to do with clans competition, challenges and rewards is a top priority to me and my clan now!

  • NewZPaperDickz

Everyone will have their own expectations on how they feel Sledgehammer Games should carry out Infinity awards blessed franchise, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Series. The series hit it highest excitement point in between Modern Warfare and it’s squeal Modern Warfare 2. Modern Warfare 2, dubbed MW2, had crazy levels of commotion behind its release. It was the most rewarding Call of Duty to date, when you actually achieved a goal; i.e; getting a headshot, or unlocking a new gun. Infinity Ward brought so much to the table in 2009 with MW2 release, but they also did it with 2011 Modern Warfare 3’s Multiplayer as well.

The future for Activison’s beloved game is still up for questioning. However, we still shouldn’t judge what Sledgehammer has up their sleeves. I have a feeling it’ll be a good one this year!

  • Rico_trusdale

Just remember people sledge hammer wasn’t responsible for mw3 multiplayer sucking. It was raven, sledgehammer helped develop the campaign so this next call of duty might be great but we’ll wait and see
