Before Sledgehammer got the chance to work on Modern Warfare 3, they were hard at wok on their own action adventure Call of Duty title which was going to take place in Vietnamese era. Sledgehammer put this title on hold to work on MW3, and now work on Advanced Warfare.

Sledgehammer has told IGN more information about the title; it was internally called Fog of War and mixed Call of Duty with play style of Uncharted.

Set against a horrific Vietnam War backdrop, Fog of War was conceived as “Call of Duty with the play style of Uncharted,” Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey told IGN. “It was really taking our passion for Call of Duty with our experience and expertise from Dead Space and bringing that together to offer fans a new Call of Duty way to play.”

Condrey explained that returning to Fog of War is still possible. “In our hearts, there’s probably a place for that game,” he said. “You never want to say in absolute terms that you wouldn’t go back to it.

I would have loved to see this.

It probably would have been very unpopular with all the hardcore fans, and the people who loved classic CoD, but it wouldn’t have been a bad idea. It sounds fun.

    • MichiganerE

I’m a classic fan and I would have picked this up in a heart beat.

    • ThisGuy

I would like to see it. Personally not as call of duty but under a different name. Either way I would of liked to of seen this made.

  • Guywithbrains

Vietnam sounds cool if we think about singleplayer. But when it comes to multiplayer, then it could limit weaponry and gadgets in multiplayer which would mean that Call of Duty would go backwards in terms of changing to something new.

    • Guest

i disagree. BO1 is one of my favorite COD games. The guns are pretty close to modern. You got the AK47 and M16 so can’t complain there anyway.

      • smayo

Exactly, one of the most interesting times in recent history with so many “hot wars” around the world they could make 3 games in that era.

plus in that time they hadn’t even heard of target finders, explosive drones and all sorts of modern time BS.

    • Brady the Defiled (sillibk)

Oh well, I hate multiplayer games.

      • Guywithbrains

Do you have any specific reasons to your statement? I know everyone doesn’t like to play multiplayer but it would be just interesting to know what kind of games people like to play if not multiplayer.

        • Brady the Defiled (sillibk)

Multiplayer games just make me rage no matter what. It’s like the games aren’t even in my favor, whether I’m good or not. It happens on all of them. However, I do think MP Gaming has a lot of satisfaction.

I prefer Singleplayer/Co-Op games. If only people stopped caring about MP Gaming the most… :/

          • Guywithbrains

I understand what you mean. I hate and love Call of Duty multiplayer. If you get to the good team it is pretty fun to play. However, if you end up playing with a bad team which gets spawn trapped, then the multiplayer might feel like it is not fun anymore.

Many Call of Duty players rage because some 12 years old kid spawn traps you or then panic knifes (built-in commando in MW3) you when you are two kills away from 25 killstreak reward…

          • Brady the Defiled (sillibk)

I rage from multiple things. Non-synced player models (mostly from Lightweight), quickscopers, etc. I’m not even talking about just CoD multiplayer. The Battlefield community in-game is also atrocious. I just prefer other modes/content.

          • Schell-141

I used tobein the sameboat as you. Just get a talkative party of friends and you’re set.

        • Siftblade of Rivia

          Single player or coop.

  • As much as I don’t want a 3rd person COD game If they made this separate from COD and made it as a new IP I would be so happy to see this game be released. Would definitely buy it.

    • kyr95

I hope they make it some day. Vietnam background combined with Dead Space scary elements? Count me in!

      • Slothigans

You’re correct about the Vietnam background. But there’s no scary elements like dead space. If you read it again it says that they used their experience and expertise FROM dead space. Not hating just thought id let you know (:

        • kyr95

Im meaning that they had said that most of the game was gonna be in the rat tunnels, like that part on BO. Now that can be scary.

          • Slothigans

            True.

        • RdJokr

Still, the Vietnam War was gruesome. I imagine they could pull off a lot of scary shit just by using dead bodies. Imagine BO1 with the gore level turned up to 9001.

          • Slothigans

            :0

          • Siftblade of Rivia

The return of gore in cod would be a glorious day. I want to blow people’s limbs off, god damn it.

          • Will WilFredo Mendoza

I know right! World At War’s Gore is what made that game truely amazing. WW2 was gorey! Its also been said that World At War is by far the creepiest Call of Duty. No humor (comic relief if thats what it is). Pure darkness.

          • MichiganerE

Imagine a CoD game with the creepy feeling of World at War Zombies.

          • RdJokr

Sadly, only Treyarch seems to be doing gore in COD nowadays. IW never puts gore in their titles, and SH doesn’t seem to be doing any different with AW. Here’s hoping their first next-gen COD would feature massive gore like in World at War.

          • IceKoldKilla

Activision’s decision unfortunetly. They saw how good CoD was selling and they wanted the most people to buy it even though it’s rated M. It doesn’t look too bad compared to like Gear of War so a parent is more likely to buy BO2 than WaW for example. Dark, bloody, gorey just isn’t as accepted to a parent’s eyes than a shooter where you barely even see blood.

          • IceKoldKilla

WaW is my favorite. I would say CoD 4 but I honestly can’t have that fun I had back then anymore. In terms of which is best when released, CoD 4 of course but that was my drug for a year or 2 and after that, it’s hard to still see it as something new and fresh and exciting. Luckily I didn’t abuse of WaW as much so whenever I go back I love it still.

        • Josh Kennen

You must not have any family or friends that went through the Vietnam war. Scary elements? Plenty of them without any correlation to some video game. It ain’t like the movies bro, war is scary, gruesome, and very horrific…

          • adub76

You didn’t read his comment right at all. He said that SHG never said the scary elements from Dead Space would be in the game. You don’t need friends or family in the Vietnam War to know that it was “scary, gruesome, and very horrific.”

    • Myabe first person with an option for third person

    • Who gives a fuck whether or not the box says CALL OF DUTY?

      • That wasn’t the point. I’m saying I don’t want a 3rd person cod.

        • Schell-141

Just because you don’t want a third person cod, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t have the right to exist. Maybe if it was a spin off cod that didn’t mess up the feature titles release dates.

          • That’s what I said. Don’t make it a 3rd person COD. Make it a 3rd person game by itself.

          • Definitely should reread what I said too. Second person who respond to me with their ignorance blinding them.

        • But you would like it if it was called something else??

          • It’s not that hard to understand. Don’t make a 3rd person COD. Release this game as something else. While, still releasing a First person COD in the same year. Because I like having COD being in first person not 3rd. Geesh. I think you’re trying to make this difficult

  • Juses

hopfully we get the co-op trailer in 11 mins

    • Guywithbrains

      Impossibru!

    • kyr95

im speculating tommorow or the next day.
Michael said it will take a while

      • Juses

I think they already have a trailer since it was going to be shown on ign first, and everything was recorded for ign first last month

        • kyr95

Aha, well they still will have to talk it with IGN to change their schedule.

          • Guywithbrains

How do we know if that co-op part is gameplay and reveal trailer is totally not related to the whole IGN First thing?

          • kyr95

            We dont 😛

          • Guywithbrains

Which keeps me thinking about when we are going to get that trailer. I need it now!

          • kyr95

Patience, patience my love! ( in Gollum’s voice )

          • Guywithbrains

            My precious!

  • GodzXPro

“They were hard at work*” not sure if typo or just funny. Either way good work keshav as usual.

  • Juses

i guess we’ll begetting that trailer tomorrow 😛

    • KernosT

Will we get it in 11 mins like u said.

      • Juses

it’s already past the time that trailers go up…

  • Kalhnykta

Off topic but what happened to EvolveHunter? Did they get a new address/redesign it or did they close it?

    • Juses

      wut?

  • Jarrett Webb

that would be awesome!! Make up some fake guns like they do in call of duty and put in real ones. That would be crazy! I wanna see this happen!

  • “War’s Fog” would sound cooler

  • if someone could just leak it…

  • thunderko

    it’s the coop mode?

  • devilhead17

Maybe a new ip in the future perhaps?

  • Slothigans

I am a huge fan of all 3 dead space games. That franchise was one of the few that actually got better with each release. That it mind this game would have been excellent and possibly earn some rewards IMO. I hope they get back on this game. It’ll probably be a story worth playing.

    • Slothigans

Disregard rewards I meant awards lol.

  • Guest

Man i would love to see this 🙂

  • still no co-op reveal. 🙁

  • StaticShockFather

Good lord I wish this game was complete. Just imagine call of duty with dead space scares!

  • jordanxbrookes

I would buy it, obviously not for £50, but for £30, sure, why not?

    • DopeAap

So you’d rather pay 180 dollars for a cod with jetpacks than a 3rd person UNCHARTED style cod in a vietnam setting? Btw, Uncharted is one of the best 3rd person shooters

      • Siftblade of Rivia

$180? You’re getting ripped off bro. Preordered the game + season pass + exclusive items for $100. Also a game like COD in third person would be very hard to implement without everyone complaining about everything.

        • DopeAap

If it was in third person, the character customization would’ve atleast made sense

          • Siftblade of Rivia

It does make sense. It’s how others see you to show off what you’ve earned or to add a touch of personalization for each character.

      • jordanxbrookes

1] $180? Like SiftBlade said, you’re getting ripped off
2] I would get both because I love Call of Duty
3] If you were attempting to make an argument from nothing, then it failed.

        • DopeAap

It didn’t fail. Because 5 people agree with me. 1 – 0 for me and 0 – 1 for you

    • AVFC

So you’d pay £50 for an FPS but £30 for a 3rd person COD game? /fail logic

      • jordanxbrookes

Yes because Call of Duty has always been an FPS, and I wouldn’t pay £20 more for a game that’s just third-person perspective from an FPS franchise. Would you pay £50 for Call of Duty: Heroes?

        • MichiganerE

No, I wouldn’t pay that price for CoD: Heroes considering it’s a mobile game.

          • jordanxbrookes

Just as I wouldn’t pay that price for a third-person game that’s under an FPS franchise.

          • Dr. Salim

Yes but take the Spec Ops series for example. That was a FPS franchise that went dark a while ago, but a few years ago they just pooped out a TPS game for $60.

          • jordanxbrookes

            I see your point.

          • MichiganerE

Even if it’s a triple A title? There’s a difference between a mobile game like CoD: Heroes and a game like Fog of War.

          • jordanxbrookes

It’s just I wouldn’t be so confident on the game, even if the idea sounds amazing, that’s why I said I’d pay for it cheaper. With an FPS like Call of Duty, I know what I’m getting myself into, whereas with an TPS Call of Duty mixed with Uncharted, I wouldn’t be confident with it. Also we haven’t even seen Fog of War so my opinion could change if we ever get to see that 15 minute demo.

          • MichiganerE

Okay, I understand what you’re saying. Just don’t compare a mobile game with a console/PC game.

        • AVFC

So you would only pay £30 for games like The Division because they are 3rd person? What if a 3rd person COD turns out to be the best game ever made – still wont pay £50 because it’s not a FPS? Some of the best games ever made are 3rd person; TLOU, Uncharted, GTA etc..

          • jordanxbrookes

No, you misunderstood what I meant. Read my comment below where I talk about my confidence with a TPS Call of Duty game.

    • Xecho

Ia gree with AVFC fail logic right here.

      • jordanxbrookes

You dislike me anyway, of course you’re going to agree with him.

        • Xecho

Actually this isn’t because of me not liking you i am actually saying this is a fail logic right here.

  • Aymen Skiken

this looks interesting…i loved uncharted series to death i’d like to see some gameplay 😀

  • Siftblade of Rivia

Please make this… it looks awesome. Lol I love uncharted, this game would’ve rocked.

  • Brady the Defiled (sillibk)

I would have preferred this game. Advanced Warfare doesn’t have the atmosphere and immersion that a Vietnam game would have. Imagine the Zombies mode with this setting.

    • kyr95

Well, theyre still havent abandoned the idea ;D

  • Thecallrocks

Treyarch already made a Vietnam based game….. But it still sounds pretty interesting and worth a wait 🙂

    • …………

CoD: Bo1 was based on The Cold War not Vietnam just had parts in Vietnam

      • derrrrrrrrrrrrr

CoD World at War. Haven’t played it, but I think he is referring to WaW.

        • Dr. Salim

          WaW was WW2

          • derrrrrrrrrrrrr

Oh. Thanks for correcting me 🙂

          • derrrrrrrrrrrrr

            Thanks.

  • ////

Hope they make this game without the CoD name and just call it “Fog of War” and release it, sounds awesome

  • Ryumoau

This would be an interesting game, though i’m not how well it would sell. I’d personally rather this be attached to a proper CoD game as the replacement third mode. Just make it a short Co-op third person story mode. It can’t be any worse than Survival mode in MW3 or as boring as the version of Spec ops in that game.

  • DopeAap

Did they seriously drop this unique idea for some generic future shooter?

    • Duke of hazard

Where you not there when people kept saying “this isn’t cod anymore” when AW was introduced? Imagine if a completely different Cod like this was introduced.

      • Dr. Salim

A lot of people play Black Ops 1, a lot of people play Uncharted, a lot of people play Third person games.

        • damoenjohn

A lot of people would love the game if it wasn’t a cod title.

      • Dr. Salim

The closest CoD game we have to AW is BO2.

        • That’s because parts of AW are based off of BO2. -_-

          • Dr. Salim

            Exactly.

      • DopeAap

No, because im not autistic and allergic to change

    • IceKoldKilla

Did you seriously think Sledgehammer didn’t think about it? Why do you think they switched? You’re the stupid one not realizing why it was done. Activision and money. Activision had them work on MW3 since IW needed help after the MW2 fiasco and then they let them do what they wanted but then the idea to have a 3 year cycle was brought up and Activision offered them to work on a CoD every 3 years which means a more stable job and more money. I would have also agreed. What if they were given freedom and they fucked up? That means BYE BYE and then on to find a new publisher and they can’t bring Fog of War with them. So now they can work and in the background play around with the idea and propose it to Activision for their next CoD IF AW does well.

      • DopeAap

blablabla too long not reading it

        • If you are too lazy to actually read a paragraph you are really, really sad.

          • DopeAap

I thought it was a part of a Harry Potter book

          • DopeAap

            >calls someone sad for not wasting time on a ”paragraph”
            >likes the comment of the same person

No offence but i just had to say that :p

  • TheUGamer

Bring to Wii U than release it for other platforms?

    • WII U IS GAY

wii u is gay and u liked ur own comment bud

      • TheUGamer

This pisses me off,so many good games on Wii U but what I’m saying is they could test on Wii U!And Gay means Men making love together and its quite rude so don’t use it…

    • TheShadowReaper

WiiU is doomed cause Nintendo is stubborn as a mule. thank them.

      • Schell-141

They’re getting better. I think they have a monetization contract for content creators now. And they’re making crossover DLC for their exclusives. But I agree, Nintendo is too casual for Cod.

        • TheShadowReaper

not just COD. generally all the 3rd party games.

did you learn the news? Watch_Dogs is coming to the WiiU but with no multiplayer. you’re getting the gimped version yet again…

  • Seven

Anyone notice the typo. ” They were hard at wok”

  • Goggles

OFF TOPIC: So I was re watching the Advanced Warfare videos, and I know this might seem like something weird and a long-shot, but there is a sort of orchestral crescendo after the Advanced Warfare title shows up in the MP Deep Dive trailer. Could be nothing, could be something, but they love being cryptic and giving us tiny clues. I don’t know what it would possibly give away, except maybe a trailer segment? Load screen? Maybe co-op menu?
    Here’s the part anyway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCnoeg_WOko&feature=youtu.be&t=6m32s

Also, it’s not the first time it’s been done, BO2 did it with one(albeit it was a little more emphasized: http://youtu.be/OD9UPv_YIY4?t=4m15s

There’s every chance it’s nothing, but I love making cryptic theories, it’s always fun! 😛

    • Dr. Salim

      let me look real quick

EDIT: It’s like that for all of their videos.

      • Goggles

Really? I’ve never heard the orchestra sort of trumpet thingy before?

        • Dr. Salim
          • Goggles

Accidentally replied to my own comment, oops 😛

          • Dr. Salim

In the video I put it’s at 2:40

          • Goggles

There’s no trumpet thing in the one you linked. I’m sure of it, unless I’ve totally gone crazy 😛

          • Dr. Salim

I DO HEAR something. Sounds like a siren to me

          • Goggles

Thank goodness, thought I was totally losing it! And it’s either that or some sort of chime trumpet thing, it’s very cool though, just don’t know WHAT it is

          • dude i hear it. In between the title and the release. Its faint but like a trumpety-Siren-ish sound

        • Goggles

No there’s def SOMETHING else, not in between Power changes everything and Advanced warfare. In between Advanced warfare and the release date

  • Grenada!

Not going to lie but I would rather have this than AW since it would be something new and different. The amount of FPS games we have at the moment is outrages and only a handful of them are any good.

  • Austin Silva

    fuck it gratata SWAG BITCH

  • TheShadowReaper

guys the idea definitely seems nice on paper but i cant stand people saying stuff like: “screw AW it sucks, bring us this!”. like AW is a generic idea of a shooter or something.

  • nick brazee

Dude all I really stupid won’t to see is what Ever other call of duty Heypd player wants to see. the co-op trailer

  • JoinTheRest

Uncharted gameplay is so boring that would literally bury call of duty! Lucky they were smart enough to drop it.

  • ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

    I would buy this game

  • Samuel Fogle

Wow, I loved learning about the Vietnam war, so this game would get me to at least try it.

  • Ben Donner

Well, pack up everyone. Time to head back to Nam.

  • Billy arthur

I wish they made this game i mean its a COD in third person and in uncharted way to play why wouldn’t somebody like to play that right ? and why they don’t release this cool game and change it with COD AW,everybody would like to play this game i know everybody would and who doesn’t like to play it and im sure i do
