Activision today issued a press release announcing that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is the #1 title in 2014 in the U.S. according to the NPD groups. In addition, Activision revealed that the Call of Duty franchise is the best selling franchise for the sixth year in a row.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare topped the U.S. charts for 2014 and claimed the title of the #1 top-selling console game of 2014 globally. Call of Duty is also the #1 franchise in the U.S. for the sixth year in a row in the U.S., based on revenue.

“We’d like to thank our fans for making Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare the #1 top-selling video game in the world, Skylanders Trap Team the top-selling kids game in the world and Destiny the #1 new video game IP of 2014,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “As much fun as we had making these games, we’ve had even more fun playing alongside you. Stay tuned. We have more exciting games in store for fans this year.”

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was also the best selling game in the month of December in the US.

  • Let’s celebrate with a remastered Modern Warfare Collection (1-3)? Sounds like a great idea to me.

    • Guywithbrains

Hacker-free, current gen graphics and removal of a couple of BS things and I would be happy.

      • Call of Duty without hackers? Maybe in a parallel universe or something.

    • Next ten intervention Quickscoping..

Yeah, I’d rather have a treyarch collection.

      EDIT:
Apparently not, as Condrey is banning trickshotters.
      Yes, seriously.

      • If anything, BOII SnD had more people QS/setting up then all the MW’s combined

        • ccrows

I lost track of how many times a squeaker would ask me before the match to not take the last kill cuz they wanted to trickshot for the final cam.

^ Yeah I’d usually hide around the corner and wait for them to start, and then I’d steal it with a C4… lol

          • jordanxbrookes

The amount of people who told me in FFA to quickscope, and I’m like, “You don’t tell the great JXB how to play his game, feel the wrath of my MTAR motherbitch!” and then they just ragequit. Good times :’D

      • ccrows

Watch the Intervention will end up being the DLC2 gun.

That would be the ultimate D*** move by SH since Trickshotters are now getting penalized. The raaaage would hit an all time high… lol

        • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

I’m so glad snipers are getting penalized tbh.

      • Condrey seriously should loose his job.

        • MMninja12

Says the one who can’t spell! “Comdrey” LOL its Condrey! its right there in front of your face retard!!!

          • So, i’m retarded because i pressed the key that is RIGHT NEXT to the letter n? Smart move pal.

        • MMninja12

and please don’t sit here and say it was an accident i have seen that excuse more times than i can count

          • It was? I mean it was clearly justified. I spelled everything correctly except i pressed the key that is right next to N. And why is that the problem here? also, i love how you like your own comments. So sad.

    • Kill Denied

Remastered Black Ops would be better

      • For MP yes, but I want to play COD 4 and MW2 Campaigns with Amazing Graphics and higher scaling. And MW3 too I guess. It wouldn’t be a collection without the last part of the trilogy

        • jordanxbrookes

I loved the Modern Warfare trilogy ๐Ÿ˜€

          • Rorke File

            Maybe MW4

          • jordanxbrookes

I don’t care what the haters say, if IW made MW4, they have my money.

    • Jasco

      Nah, lets bitch about SBMM

      • ccrows

        & Reverse Boosting SBMM… ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • jooker-jr

Releasing 3 games in one disc will hurt the sales of the future cods.

Yes a collection of the best cods will print money for Activision but think about the releases after it, a lot of people will not buy them because they have the best cods in one disc, so why buy another one.

If cod isn’t yearly then I will agree, but unfortunately it’s not.

      • ccrows

IDK, IW comes up in 2016. I think the community would be pretty vocal against a Ghosts2.

Either IW could take the easy road, and make INSANE bank for Activision, or they’re gonna have to start another new series (or possibly a MW4) since Ghosts was hated on by the community…

        • jooker-jr

Yeah, I have no idea about what are IW gonna do with third next title.
But a lot of things happend in 2014 and things actually look good for 2016 :

1- Neversoft ( the developer of tony hawk’s, guitar hero and worked on ghosts ) mirged with IW ( which mean that they have A LOT of people in IW :http://charlieintel.com/2014/07/11/neversoft-studio-celebrates-their-studio-closing-with-tony-hawk-studio-officially-merged-into-iw/

2- two naughty dog developers joined IW :http://charlieintel.com/2014/08/01/two-naughty-dog-developers-join-infinity-ward/

So I hope they develop something good.

          • MMninja12

you good sir, make a extremely good point! if they screw up 2016……..i will be speechless!

        • J4MES

IW are screwed whatever they do: If it’s Ghosts 2, most of the community would be disappointed and the potential sales would be at an all time low. If they do a new IP, it’s like they admit that Ghosts failed and people wouldn’t have confidence in them starting again. If they went back to MW; it would be a desperate move living off past success that wasn’t directly theirs. The new IW are in a tough spot and even if they made the MW collection or something; they’d still probably cock it up!

Activision should have ridded IW after Ghosts. I only have faith in Treyarch now and thank god it’s their turn this year.

          • Guywithbrains

Prepare for spawn traps in small maps and lag combined with BS close range weapons such as shotguns and SMGs.

^ Every new CoD but especially Treyarch’s.

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

Shotguns in AW aren’t OP, so +1 to SH.

          • Keshav Bhat

Actually, I’m sure IW knows the feedback and is aware of how to change their 2016 scenario. It’s gonna be rough, and for sure, trying to sell a “Ghosts 2” would practically be impossible. I possibly see them accepting their failure and making a new sub brand for CoD or picking up Modern Warfare. Time will tell.

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

First thing on the agenda: Fire Tina.

          • Keshav Bhat

Why? She’s a community manager. She doesn’t make finally decisions, just passes along feedback back to the team.

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

Because she’s paid to get abused via social media, but doesn’t do her job. People who don’t do their jobs don’t deserve to have them, right? She blocked people for reporting about hackers.

          • J4MES

They need to fire Mark Rubin first. At least Tina is still active on twitter and takes the flak – Rubin went into hiding on November 8th 2013 and has only been seen in public doing DLC videos since. I can see why IW is in such a dismal decline with them two in the crows nest running the show though.

        • Oh god, I have been waiting to use this meme for far too long.

      • jordanxbrookes

Chances are the future CoDs are gonna suck, so I’m fine with an MW Collection.

        • jooker-jr

I think its the exact opposite :
2015: treyarch are good, so I’m positive about them
2016: look at my coent below.
2017: I personally love AW so yeah… Looking forward for the next SH title.

+ 3 years for every developer.

          • jordanxbrookes

Treyarch are the only devs keeping me 100% with CoD. I’m giving IW a second chance, but I think Ghosts 2 will suck. And I despise AW so Sledgehammer is out the window.

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

            Ghosts was IW’s second chance.

          • jordanxbrookes

Not for me. I loved MW3, hence why I said “I’m” giving them a second chance.

          • MichiganerE

So you’ve finally made up your mind and now despise AW, huh? How come?

          • jordanxbrookes

I’ve despised AW ever since SBMM was found out.

          • MichiganerE

I remember you once saying that it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t for you.

          • jordanxbrookes

Campaign is the only good thing about AW.

          • MichiganerE

            In your opinion.

          • Guestt

            What is SBMM?

    • jordanxbrookes

Modern Warfare Collection and Black Ops Remastered! That will keep me sold for a good few years.

    • Keshav Bhat

don’t see this ever happening imo. Business models/future outlook would probably be more into expanding CoD rather than focusing on the past.

      • Well, I hope their sales continue to go down like they have been for the past few years and they’ll pull a Halo and start remastering their old games. Lol

        • Keshav Bhat

Well we all saw the disaster that Halo The Master Chief Collection was and continues to be. It proved that remakes can be disasterous if not executed correctly.

        • Carrisi

          Totally agree.

      • Carrisi

It will happen when cod starts to decline, which after the last two titles I believe it has.

    • Rorke File

Thats what I say all day long

    • Carrisi

      It has to be done!

  • Dr. Salim

    “Because of yearly releases.”

    • Keshav Bhat

Well, I mean, obviously doing yearly releases have proven to be extremely successful for Activision. I don’t see other companies being able to pull of what Activision has done the last 10 years. Activision has 3 games in their portfolio and makes more money than EA, who have tons of games under their portfolio.

      • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

Can confirm. Spent $40-60 on all of their games since CoD 4, hell, I bought, like 6 World at War copies, 2-3 Modern Warfare 2 copies, 3-4 Black Ops 1 copies, 2 Modern Warfare 3 copies, and 2 Black Ops II copies. I think I shouldn’t have done that.

        • Uzair Chief

Why would you buy more copies?

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

            Discs unreadable

  • jooker-jr

They said its dead since cod 4.

  • Stefan Lang

I wish CoD Online would come to the US. Id pay for all those micro packs. I dont give a shit I just wanna have a great cod experience on Next Gen. AW is fun but the flaws are there and it gets boring within an hour of playtime.

    • CrowReap .

I agree aw gets boring in a short amount of time and cod online needs to be international and not exclusively china.

    • J4MES

I’ve played COD Online and it’s just fantastic. It’s a travesty that we don’t have it worldwide. All the great memories rolled into one fantastic package. I’ve bought so much through microtransactions and probably spent no more than ยฃ7 and have played about 75 hours so far.

    • Keshav Bhat

Issue is, is that CoD Online was developed in partnership with China based publisher Tencent. To bring it worldwide it would need to be localized with language and then redeveloped for the consoles/PC distribution way that other countries do. It’s a big undertaking. It could happen, but not in the near future.

      • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

I’d be excited with it coming another year or two. Anything later and I think I’d still be content.

  • Ryumoau

Its weird to see people still claiming CoD is dying even after these articles showing how successful the franchise is.

    • Kill Denied

      The quality is

    • jordanxbrookes

Too bad ATVI won’t share their sales figures for AW.

      • Keshav Bhat

There’s no need to share sales figures when it’s the #1 title, beating out GTAV, etc. The fact that its number one makes it plausible that Call of Duty is still on top, regardless of what some say.

        • jordanxbrookes

But they shared numbers for Ghosts, so why not Advanced Warfare? It’s great for Activision that it’s #1, but if they were confident with the title, why not share the figures?

          • Keshav Bhat

They only shared Ghosts figures one time and said Ghosts sold through $1 billion into retail. After that they stopped. Plus, it’s about secrets and competitions. Companies don’t want to go around advertising their numbers as other companies can then plan their strategies based around competitions data.

          • jordanxbrookes

That’s a possibility, but I highly doubt that’s the reason. I think most of us know it’s because sales are declining each year, despite being #1. Activision were fine sharing numbers with all the other CoD games, it’s only until Ghosts where they have been very quiet.

          • Guywithbrains

I think golden age of Call of Duty has gone but that doesn’t mean that games ain’t good. I loved MW3, Ghosts was good and AW is good but also there is a small chance to get back to Call of Duty’s golden age by removing all BS and making it more Call of Duty 4 style.

          • jordanxbrookes

Sadly the golden age of CoD has gone. If we’re gonna stick with general opinion, then every CoD game up until Black Ops 2 has been good. It’s only Ghosts and AW that sucks.

          • Guywithbrains

Do you have any ideas about how they could go back to golden age? Do you prefer Call of Duty 4 style (less killstreaks, more weapon vs. weapon combat)?

          • jordanxbrookes

Tbh, Call of Duty is never going back to its golden age. It’s become too advanced(no pun intended) to the point where, if you strip killstreaks, perks etc. it’s going to anger a slice of the community. I personally didn’t get to play Call of Duty 4 in its prime days(fuck me) but I do know for a fact it was revolutionary and the multiplayer was damn solid. Personally, I would prefer something like either another Call of Duty 4 or another Black Ops.

          • Guywithbrains

I played Call of Duty 4 also after that golden age. I ended up to a lobby where hacker makes a tower from all players and then we explode after a couple of seconds. ๐Ÿ˜›

          • jordanxbrookes

Yeah, hackers have really ruined games like Call of Duty 4 and World At War :/

          • MichiganerE

Yeah, CoD was in it’s prime from CoD 4 – BO1. But this is what I think the communities opinion is on CoD game from CoD 1 – AW.

            CoD 1: Most liked it
            CoD 2: Most liked it
            CoD 3: Most disliked it
            CoD 4: Most loved it
            WaW: Most liked it
            MW2: Most loved it
            BO1: Most loved it
            MW3: Most hated it
            BO2: Opinions were mixed
            Ghosts: Most despised
            AW: Opinions are mixed

          • Xx_COLSEY_xX

I still play CoD 4 on ps3 on SnD and there is no hackers believe it or not. So for those people who are saying “CoD is dead since CoD4” should quit moaning and start playing CoD4 which is currently a no hacking game ATM

          • jordanxbrookes

Call of Duty 4 has lots of hackers, although I’m not sure if World At War has more or not.

          • Xx_COLSEY_xX

I rarely find hackers on CoD 4, But that’s on PS3.

          • kplem

get them on PC no hackers 60+ players, custom servers, mature community.

          • MMninja12

          • kplem

take note GTA V came out 14 days after AW as well as it sold the most on last gen, as well it is only 390,000 away from AW on PS4 pretty, AW is laughable in sales and in general. GTA V beat super mario (NES) which sold 40.24 million. GTA V is the 2nd most sold game ever. (i still think it is first since wii sports sales came mostly from all the copies that came with the wii).

  • Tim Vikouski

wow after 2 years in a row of fails somebodys not telling the truth

    • Keshav Bhat

“Fails”? Just because you don’t like the games doesn’t mean people aren’t buying them. For the entire year of 2014, even CoD Ghosts made the top 10 list at #10.

      • drjakeyoung

The last line kinda proves why these these figures arn’t realy trust worthy.

        • Keshav Bhat

Last line of what? Call of Duty Ghosts was the best selling title of 2013. Advanced Warfare is best of 2014. It’s proven by NPD – a group that does market research and collects actual figures throughout the entire industry in the US & industries of other types worldwide.

          • drjakeyoung

Your last line states that ghosts was in the top ten in 2013, which I’m not going on about. What i am going on about is the fact that ghosts was in the top ten in the first place. I mean, we all know that activision spends a hell of a lot of money on marketing with COD, so how far fetched would it be if they were paying for their games to be it put in the top ten everytime?

          • But they get in the top ten because of the Call of Duty name… This is proven with Ghosts

          • Keshav Bhat

Activision can’t control official data from a research industry group.

          • drjakeyoung

They could if they wanted too. All im saying is that with all the money activision has, it would be easy to manipulate the figures.

          • Keshav Bhat

You cannot manipulate figures that the NPD group reports from their research.

          • drjakeyoung

Really? If the goverments can manipulate immigration numbers, then i dont think its too far fetched for activision to have an imput in these gigures.

          • kplem

ghosts best sold of 2013? GTA V 360 PS3?? you high? GTA V sold like 36M+ on last gen and so many people buying it again which is nearly beating AW (390k behind it on PS4 as well as it came out 14 days after) proves AW is a piece of garbage failure both game and sales wise lol. oh GTA V hasnt even come out on PC yet.

      • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

Have they released official sales numbers? I’ve heard 5 million units (worst selling CoD for a long time in terms of AW) from unofficial sources. So if they haven’t released numbers, then AW didn’t do very well, at least for AAA standards.

        • kplem

AW is a failure in sales and as well as the game lol

  • Guywithbrains

While I was using Google search and trying to find anything related to incoming Call of Duty title, I found this:

    http://www.rifenews.com/treyarch-looking-into-pc-specific-optimizations-and-features-for-new-call-of-duty/

I don’t know if this is old or new news but what I noticed there: “A new job listing discovered on the studioโ€™s LinkedIn page reveals that Treyarch is looking into โ€œPC specific optimizations and features.โ€ A top-level candidate is being looked for the position of Senior Graphics Engineer. The individual will be implementing new graphics technology, improving existing graphics capabilities and engine, fixing PC bugs and the sort.”

If this is true does that mean they are going to use same engine from previous Call of Duty games?

    • It is true, one of the devs tweeted it and it’s on the official Activision page
      https://twitter.com/pcdev/status/553698921370124288

      • Guywithbrains

But seems like they are going to use same old engine. Not going to say it is not going to look cool but there won’t probably be anything new which causes “wow” effect such as more destruction (not Battlefield scale).

    • jooker-jr

Great, everyone can enjoy an optimized game ( hopefully )
