GameInformer has posted a preview of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s campaign mode and revealed that in this title, there’s no more Follow icon in the campaign mode. Previous Call of Duty titles always had a Follow icon on a certain player where the story advances, but with Black Ops 3, that’s gone.

The entire segment, which lasted about 20 minutes was free-flowing. We moved throughout the environment as a team, providing covering fire, and hitting the objectives as we pushed ahead. At no point did we see our old friend Follow. The battlefield was ours to do with as we pleased, giving us the chance to test out different tactics and gear.

Bringing co-op play and more open environments, players can now go around missions freely, with new specific order to where you must go.

    Furst haaaaa!

  • Ryumoau

It will be weird to play campaign without the follow icon, but i think AW did a great job of not making it as intrusive as it used to be with their campaign.
Hopefully there will be vocal ques from the characters to help us know where our objective to proceed with a mission is.

      “Mitchell, do this!”

      • jordanxbrookes

        “RAMIREZ! DO EVERYTHING!”

        • Kyle Soule

Haha I actually just got done playing mw2 campaign yesterday (I was bored) and that is literally all I heard
          “RAMIREZ OPEN THIS DOOR!”
          RAMIREZ MOVE YOUR ASS!”

        • Jessica Because

          “RELOADING!”

    • MichiganerE

The follow icon in AW was used like crazy.

      • Siftblade of Rivia

Yup, I also hate when the campaign forces you to follow someone who’s moving slow as hell, and you have to wait forever for them to open doors so that you can continue.

        • MichiganerE

Agreed. What I liked about every CoD up until WaW was that there wasn’t an icon to follow, you just had a compass/GPS with a marked objective to find a way to with multiple paths to play through to get to. Let’s hope they bring this back with BO3.

        • Kyle Soule

Or when it says to follow but you have to go ahead of them for them to start moving.

      • Ryumoau

i didn’t notice it nearly as much as in ghosts, BO2, and Modern Warfare series.

        • MichiganerE

Oh, it was there a lot.

  • MrHotShot118

Just not feeling it with this COD campaign. Seems rather dull sadly 🙁 Just my opinion i guess.

    • the big dirtty

Yea I haven’t played COD campaign since BO1…and didnt even finish that one. Couldn’t care less TBH

    • Siftblade of Rivia

Same. They haven’t showed any parts of the story to give us a clue about what the plot is. So far it looks like it’s a very generic set of levels focused on the coop gameplay. Is this a side effect of the campaign team switching to Zombies?

      • Ryumoau

thats sad because i don’t care enough about zombies to have it be negatively affecting campaign like this.

      • Maybe and a heavier emphasis on MP too maybe? I mean ever since the unusual reveal trailer with snippets of MP and that weird ass edited trailer, I’ve had my concerns and doubts over the SP portion of the game. This recent knews as well as the final mission being unlocked has justified that concern. It just seems so half heatedly done or appreciated.

      • BigMacMan

Don’t forget the snapchat pictures they sent us a few months ago. I think those were hints about what the campaign might be about. but I understand what you’re saying. what I’m worried is that every level will be like those strike force missions from black ops 2.

        • Siftblade of Rivia

          That is exactly my concern.

        • Kurama The Nine-Tailed Fox

I think the campaign missions will be more like Destiny’s campaign missions. Open environment kill everything and complete objective type stuff.

      • RdJokr

I don’t think it’s that much of an issue. In an interview, Jason Blundell said they’re trying not to give away too much plot details, like they did with Black Ops II. They regretted showing off the Cordis Die level at E3 (which was the penultimate level), so they’re trying to keep things on the down low this time around.

    • Ever since that reveal trailer, I knew pretty much the focus has shifted over to MP unfortunately.

  • Daniel Mertens

loved campaign on BO1 and BO2

  • MichiganerE

The same thing was said about AW and it had plenty of follow icons.

  • ScOott

Cod campaigns all I seem to do is follow someone I hope that has gone, give us some more freedom man.

    • Prostidude

Yeah, i like this new concept for campaign. It is almost like Destiny.

  • Freeze

I like this game so far.

  • Shardlotte

Keep in mind that they only played one mission (it sounds like they didn’t even finish it) so it could possibly just be that that particular mission doesn’t have the follow mark. However, campaign seems really lacklustre this time around.

    • Kyle Soule

It does tbh. Hopefully not though.

    • Prostidude

Keep in mind campaign is the first thing they start and finish. Actually Campaign is the first thing they start and it usually goes on till launch.

  • james lamberson

Personally,i like the idea of the co-op and a form of open world.Though i do agree with siftblade on how they didnt get u pumped for the plot.Kudos to SHG last year on that,if u think bout i do,theyre making up for it, hype wise, everywhere else.

  • Mick

I hope that they have a secret weapon easter egg like they did with bo1. Getting that Thundergun and seeing corpses fly was entertaining to see.

    • Daniel

      Yes please

  • Daniel

Vonderhaar + Destiny = this shit

  • Johtoboy

Good, I always hated how linear the campaign was and even worse, the game would yell at me whenever I tried to explore.

  • Juses

The ember trailer looked pretty promising, but as time goes on I’m starting to believe that Black Ops 3 has no story at all. Treyarch is doing a pretty terrible job so far marketing the campaign.

  • Kobrah

    I’ve heard this before (AW & Ghosts) we’ll see…

  • Prostidude

Sounds like they are trying hard with campaign but it will probably be bland like usual.

  • Eddie Tupy

if only the enemies were actually fun to kill like in halo or gears or even, dare i say it, destiny..

  • LLinkGames

I think the campaign is going to be pretty different we will see if the choice they made is good or bad. I’m half and Half right now I’m not saying it’s going to be bad but I have my doubts.

  • melchor2679

AW’s campaign was done nicely, BO3’s seems too complicated. I get that they are trying to make it appealing, specially for the multiplayer community but I don’t know. Kevin Spacey was spot on.
