We were a little hesitant to report since there isn’t much to go on but based on the 100’s of tweets we got from you guys we figured we’d post it. It appears the latest Black Ops 3 beta video revealed that unlock tokens are making a return for Black Ops 3 multiplayer. There’s also a never before seen “Personalize” button at the bottom, however specialist customization was hinted a while back. Let us know what you think in the comments below…

        • Logan

          You guys give me aids.

  • I’m sure this bothers people one way or another. Since people hate prestiging for some reason.

    • jordanxbrookes

I don’t hate prestiging, just don’t want to be forced to prestige just to unlock everything.

      • They invented prestige tokens so you could take your favorite thing with you to the start of the next prestige. After about 5 Prestiges you have everything you need.

      • I think we just all have our own opinions. Some players like prestiging, some don’t. I kinda like the idea of unlock tokens as then you get a bit more freedom over what you unlock.

        • I wouldn’t mind if when I prestige in Black Ops 3 I was rewarded with new Camos and Gear. I’m sure Treyarch will do something like that.

          • Xx_COLSEY_xX

Yeah that would be a good idea. This is why Treyarch needs to listen to people like you with great ideas.

          • jordanxbrookes

If it’s something like that and it’s consistent throughout prestiging, meaning not getting some gear and a camo when you first prestige and then next time you prestige you get nowt, then that would be a better incentive to prestige.

    • Dangelo95

Doesn’t bother me I love prestiging it’s just something about playing at max level no prestige just seems worthless when you could spend your time playing ranking back up its fun IMO

  • LovekillerX

What are unlock tokens? I’m not sure…

    • Guywithbrains

They force you to prestige to max so you can unlock everything. Because of this I never unlocked over half of Black Ops 2 killstreaks. I am still at max level and 0 prestige so you can imagine I don’t have a lot of things unlocked.

In other words one of those things that sucked back in Black Ops 2 is coming back.

      • ScOott

I don’t think it sucked, gave you more of a reason to prestige imo. And you get to keep everything if you don’t prestige.

        • jordanxbrookes

You didn’t get everything though. You got one token per level and there were 55 levels with well over 55 items you could unlock with the tokens, meaning you had to prestige if you wanted to unlock everything. It was annoying for me who just wanted to get to Level 55 and that’s it and because of it I ended up getting to Prestige Master. Granted it only took a month to do (real time).

          • ScOott

That’s not how I remember it, you unlocked everything when you got to level 55 and if you wanted to prestige you would lose everything but you got to keep one thing thanks to the token, no doubt your right as I know you have played a bit of bo2 during the a.w cycle.. Just how I remember it..

          • jordanxbrookes

Nope, that’s how I wish it were done. Sadly you had to get to Prestige Master to unlock everything :/

          • ScOott

O well, as long as it’s fun to play i don’t care at this point, I really don’t want to go 3 years without cod, the past two years I’ve had to get a life, I’d like cod to take that away from me again.. I’m waiting!

          • jordanxbrookes

            I know the feeling haha.

      • Yankeephil

You’re referring to ghost or the original BO where you bought the guns instead of unlocking them through normal leveling. The truth is no one knows if it’ll be like ghosts with these unlock tokens being like squad points or if these are like the prestige tokens from BO2

    • ScOott

They don’t force you to prestige guywithbrains is wrong, if you decide to prestige you get to keep one thing in exchange for a token, if the gun you want doesn’t get unlocked till level 40, u can use your token to have it unlocked straight away. You still get everything if u don’t prestige ..

      • QuickzZ-_-GhosT

I don’t really think that s it.Imo these are the same tokens you use to buy something you just unlocked.I mean, why would there be 50 of them in the picture ? 50 prestiges ? I guess not.

        • ScOott

Maybe you can spend them on different things. Like to prestige your gun and character as well? I was just telling him how bo2 worked.

      • Xx_COLSEY_xX

Yeah I agree with you ScoOtt. For those people saying “It forces you to prestige” No it doesn’t. You don’t have to buy perks that are a must need. Like Hardline, Cold Blooded, Dead Silence and Amplify or whatever it’s called. You don’t have to buy guns that you might not use. Like PDW 57, Vector, Chicom, SWAT 556, SMR etcetera. If you want certain guns, perks, wildcards, equipment and streaks, you save your tokens and buy what you want rather spending them on things you really don’t use. Yeah alright you might not be able to have everything you want, but that’s why you be so sure on what you’re going to buy.

  • You have to be kidding me…again? These custom class tokens are essentially a way of saying “prestige or be screwed”.

  • QuickzZ-_-GhosT

How can unlock tokens be a good idea ? It s just a stupid way to make you prestige if you want to have access to everything in the game.Tbh it doesn t really bother me since I always end up prestiging, but it must be annoying for those guys who don t want to lose their shit after they hit max lvl.

    • not true, you will surely able to unlock everything just by levelling prestige 0… ( I guess we are talkign about weapon & attachments & stuff, not the badges of course)

  • fires

Noooooo. Will it be like blops2 and we wont be able to get everything until master? That always pissed me off, since i usually only prestiged until all custom classes were unlocked, then sort of gave up. It bugs me when i cant have all the options(even if i dont touch them)

    • SarDoggy

It might be like Cod:Ghosts unlock token system. Loved that!

      • Thomas the TankSwag

That was the worst unlock system ever, added no replayability as you had everything good after 3-4 games.

        • SarDoggy

I feel the opposite. I can only play for about 2 in a half hours a day(late at night) so i don’t have a lot of time to play and the unlock system from ghosts let me pick what guns i wanted first so i could actually have fun. Ik you can play all day 24/7 but i cant and leveling up takes a while and i usually prestige every 3-4 weeks because of my limited play time. ? Please treyarch send us the Ghosts unlock system!

      • jordanxbrookes

Ghosts had a terrible unlock system. They did everything Treyarch did with COD Points in Black Ops, but 1000x worse.

        • SarDoggy

Y’alls opinions. I thoughr it was good. Just maybe next time it takes like 3x or 4x of Unlock tokens to unlock the guns but i honestly thought it was fine.

    • jordanxbrookes

Yeah I know what you mean.

  • Dangelo95

Guys you don’t even know how this is going to completely work yet they obviously adjusted some things since black ops 2 calm down before we here the official details

  • Siftblade

I like this. Gives me motivation to get to master prestige.

    • QuickzZ-_-GhosT

So how s there 50 of them in the picture ?

      • Axel Noir

        Good question.

      • Koolz

        50 prestiges confirmed

        • QuickzZ-_-GhosT

          Seems legit.

        • lmao. I heard every prestige is only like 10 levels long.

      • Felix Lamirande

I think it’s because it will have a new prestige system 🙂

      • Xx_COLSEY_xX

This could be tokens to buy while you’re levelling up throughout the prestige. So for example buying perks, weapons and score streaks etcetera while levelling up. I don’t think they’re unlock tokens (prestige tokens). If I’m wrong then I don’t know why you can have 50 unlock tokens when prestiging.

  • FazalGaming

    Not this BS again.

    • Smayo

I wanted to reply; why not ? Unlock tokens are cool, but then I realized these aren’t those permanent unlock tokens you get after prestiging, but those other ones…. and yes, those are BS.

      • Jack

I didn’t mind the BO2 unlock token system. Honestly it made me want to prestige more because I could never have everything unlocked at once (even though you pretty much could have everything anyway). I’m not a fan of things just being given to you.
I like the extra hesitation of a bit fully knowing all the guns and equipment and wondering whether or not you’ll need a trophy system enough to waste one token on it.

        • Smayo

I don’t mind the token system either, but I find it right that if you reach the level cap you would be able to unlock everything, not everyone has the time or enthusiasm to reach master prestige.

Give the die hard CoD prestigers something extra for their efforts, special camo’s, playercards etc etc.

          • Jack

But from a developer point of view, that doesn’t make sense. What makes sense is wanting all of your player base to be playing regularly and going for master prestige. More play time means more time spent in the game which means more likely to spend money on it (DLC and whatnot).
I made a second account mainly for league play in BO2 (being platinum meant I couldn’t really play with friends as they weren’t as good and I always played against masters. I was fine with staying at level 50 no prestige.
It takes the average player 24 hours of game time to prestige (less in more recent CoDs or if you are above average) this isn’t unreasonable to get to prestige 10 within 6 months.
However, not everyone has time or sees the fun in prestige like I do. I’ve never been one to care about not having things unlocked, I’ve always been the type to work around limitations. If it was a necessity then I could permanently unlock it.
I do agree that by level Max ready to prestige you should be able to unlock everything available at that prestige. At least have the ability to earn extra unlock tokens

          • Smayo

You got a point there, but In BO1 I kept prestiging because I wanted that gold camo and those prestige playercards, not to earn more CoD points, I think if they put in certain special prestige awards it’s more of an incentive to play then some tokens to unlock regular weapons/attachments.

Otherwise indeed give the option to earn extra tokens when you reached the prestige level cap, by completing certain challenges for example.

  • Jonathan Ridsdale

Just remember guys not to go mad trying to rush to prestige as its reset when game come out anyway

  • djml9

Why is everyone freaking out? They could very well give us enough tokens to unlock everything this time. Why not wait before having a heart attack?

    • Xerolh

Because people love to freak out over nothing.

    • Thomas the TankSwag

That was a good feature though, gives more reason to prestige

      • Xerolh

Exactly, I loved the token system.

      • djml9

Personally, the fact that you dont lose all your challenge progress was enough reason to prestige. I never prestiged more than once per game before BO3 because i didnt feel like racking up thousands of kills with all my guns again, plus the super hard challenges like All Pro.

        • djml9

          *BO2

    • jordanxbrookes

Because everyone doesn’t want Black Ops 3 to flop so everything being shown, we’re on the edge of our seats.

      • djml9

BO3 isnt gonna flop over this. BO2 didnt.

        • jordanxbrookes

I didn’t say it was gonna flop over this, I’m speaking in general.

  • Gooby

isnt tis wot wus n ghosts? if et eis ten everybody wil hav al their attachments n everyting unlocked.

  • I always like the token system since mw3. I wish treyarch did the same thing IW did with the token and double xp

  • guys what the hell are you talking about ? prestige tokens were about getting your favorite weapon right after you prestige.. if you stay at prestige 0 and never prestige, you still unlock everything.. am I missing something ? or bo2 levelling was that far ago that I don’t remember it correctly ???

    • Yankeephil

A lot of people believe these tokens may be similar to ghosts where you don’t unlock items when leveling up you earn tokens in game and use them to unlock items that you want to use

      • Smayo

No it’s the fact that if you don’t prestige all the way up to master prestige, you won’t be able to unlock everything because you won’t get enough unlock points between level 1 to 55 in bo2, many are concerned this is happening again in bo3 and are forced to prestige in order to get all attachments etc.

  • Ak74u

No character customization please it is very pointless

    • RdJokr

Seeing as everybody is using every character available, and factions don’t create a clear distinction between you and the enemy anymore, character customization is needed. So at least I could know whether that Ruin guy is my teammate, or if that Seraph is on the other team.

      • Ak74u

It still doesn’t help distinguish which character is on my team or on the enemy team even on AW if my teamates run cold blooded I don’t see their names pop up or from a distance and I shoot my teammates. I’m not going to take my time in pre-game lobby to see how my teamates look like to identify them. I liked it when there was no character customization because everyone in my team looked the same and it was easy to identify who teamates and the enemy was now it’s bullcrap little kids wanting to dress up in their game. I don’t care about dressing up my character. You don’t have any good points to defend your statement so I say it is still useless other than the fact that it looks good or its appealing. The only way it could be useful is if it was meant to make you camouflage but they are all rediculous

        • jordanxbrookes

          Agreed.

        • RdJokr

That’s why the lobby exists, for you to have a look at the other players. For example, if I see in the lobby a gold-ish customized Reaper on the enemy team, I’ll know to look out for him in the match.

Cold Blooded can be an issue, but then again, it would only work once. I mean, if you already know a guy’s running CB, and you still don’t know to shoot him, then I’m sorry but you’re just not that good of a player. And since I only play in Core modes, shooting teammates don’t cost anything (other than a couple of bullets), but then again that’s pretty fixable, since enemies’ guns are scattered all over anyway. Easy ammo refill, without even using Scavenger.

          • Ak74u

Of course in core mode its easy to identify even if teammate has cold blooded but in hard core that’s where it gets stupid mostly when you see someone running around the corner and you shoot because you assume its an enemy. The lobby exists so I can see what weapons my enemies are using and perks whatever but it’s not going to make it any easier in hardcore modes still customization is stupid and I will never support it unless it is army based gear. That is just a way for them to make money and satisfy the kids playing.I will never pay for these micro transactions for stupid gear and customization. Keep designs on weapons not characters

          • RdJokr

Sure, knock yourself out. Nobody’s forcing you to buy the gears anyway. And we don’t even know what kind of character customization set they’re selling, but chances are it won’t be as ludicrous as in Ghosts and AW, because Vahn wants the Specialists to be easily recognizable.

I enjoyed Blops1 and 2 very much; I played WaW way too late but it was cool. The point I am getting to is I feel that Treyarch is getting “cocky”; they’re turning very controversial things/death-like streaks into specialist abilites. I say cocky because its like “We can turn this pile of shit(what most people dislike from previous titles) and turn that shit into blueberry pie. It’s like “Oh we know how to do this the proper way.” And maybe they do, I hope so.

When watching the E-sports things at gamescom, I noticed that one of the players walked in a room, shot someone, then looked to his RIGHT, that someone used rejacked, then the person that shot him had to quickly shift BACK to the left to shoot that guy AGAIN while that guy was in the green/tac-insertion mist, got no hit markers(i guess theres a delay between the green flare and when the guy actually comes back to life) and a guy came from the right and killed him while he was utterly distracted AND couldn’t re-kill(haha) the same guy, so he was completely fucked over.

It’s like a negative placebo effect; the taste has stained the mouths of many from previous titles, even if it is balanced in blops3.

  • Gamefr3akable

I hope this isn’t the Black Ops 2 Unlock Tokens… I hated those. (I love prestiging) but it just took some fun out of the game for me. I am limited to what I buy in my prestige? Sounds a bit dumb since I already lose everything when I prestige? IMO I loved the lose everything in a prestige instead of the Treyarch reward system.

  • jooker-jr

Nice, but I hope that things are very expensive so that I end up with 1 million token after hitting the highest prestige.

  • Kyle Soule

Too bad its not cod points. Those were the best.

    • Noretrollor

Right, but now you have to unlock everything. COD Points were the best since you didn’t have to level up to get attachments, but gun yup. I liked the Camera Equipment the most.

      • Kyle Soule

Oh the camera spike? Yh that was pretty fun to use.

  • Noretrollor

Anybody want the COD Points back? No? Just me.? Okay..
