It’s hot out there. Set in the center of a gritty military complex above an active volcano, Rift utilizes tight areas for players to take their enemies head-on. With Call of Duty: Black Ops III’s core movement system, players will have new opportunities to strategize their close-quarter engagements.

Furst.. I’d rather see a bad ass trailer than these stupid things, its pointless the way they are doing this..

  • lunator100hd .

Im not gonna buy the dlc but this map looks good, its the only map with the proper military tone that cod needs because the rest of them are like came out of a feng shui book.

    • ScOott

If dlc one is anything to go by, this looks like the best map to me personally but no one will ever vote for it, I always seem to be playing splash, while the snowy map the best one imo, I hardly ever see it I don’t even know the name of it thats how often I see it..

the cheese is what the people vote for..

      • lunator100hd .

People always vote the smaller and least skill based map , thats how it goes, this is why nuketown made it so far.

        • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

That’s because the smaller maps are more fun to play, whilst awful maps like Redwood, Exodus, and Metro take forever to finish and flow terribly.

  • Who Am I To Judge?

Why can’t they just release a whole trailer that includes all of the maps? As cheesy as it may be at times, it helps to see all of them in action, even if all of the events are scripted.

    • Vinbat

I kinda like the one per day, feels like a buildup

    • Dr. Salim

They get money based on views. More videos= more money.

      • We’re talking about Activision, a company worth $14+ billion. They may get a couple thouasnd per video by stretching it out over 5 vids. What they are doing is building up talk and suspense for the next preview. nowadays people forget a video by the next day and move on to the next thing. This way, they are stretching tension across at least 5 days.

      • Who Am I To Judge?

How do you feel about Treyarch killing you off? Honest question, not avoiding the topic. I can see that as a definite reason, and to build up the hype.

  • Thomas the Tankswag

Looks like a great map, i wish treyarch would bring dynamic map features back though. Not to the same level as Ghosts/AW but stuff like the train in Express and the flood in hydro from bo2.

    • Really? I feel that the mass transit rail station in Metro is… Somewhat annoying. I prefer classic Black Ops dynamic elements like togging doors to close (Stockpile) or destroying bridges (Discovery).

      • Thomas the Tankswag

Those are good too, i just want more immersion/detail in the maps. Atm, the maps just have a shape and thats it (other than metro), before many maps had a unique feature in them.

        • ScOott

This is how I thought CoD would evolve tbh, not adding jet packs and space, but to do more within the maps..
I would also love to see slightly more destructive environment, putting bullets In a TV, or in to couch just for the bullet wholes to dissappear is still in cod to this day..

          • Thomas the Tankswag

Id like a glass destruction system similar to the division (every bullet puts a separate hole + crack through the glass and when cracks join additional shards break off) and also spreadable fires (See Far cry primal or metro2020 in bf4) that dont destruct much but burn paint off walls, injure people and cause smoke obstruction.

I believe the bullet holes disappearing is due to people writing offensive writing on the walls and drawing dicks/tits. Ive seen massive skyscraper dicks bf4 aswell as someone writing allah akbar on the wall.

          • ScOott

Haha.. yh I can imiagne how bad the community would be, I just ment those things should of had a bit more of an impact than just going back to normal..

But yh,what CoD could of been..

Hopefully when everyone tires out of the futuristic thing and developers go back in time a bit, stuff like that might be thought about..

          • Thomas the Tankswag

Sledgehammer probably will go back, no where the story can lead without just starting another war with same characters so not much point continuing the storyline unless they go with this: http://imgur.com/ya5oY2T. The only thing that may stop them is that there is less creativity in past/modern settings so supply drops are limited and Activision wouldn’t like that.

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

Those are physics, which takes CPU power. As long as it’s not too strenuous.

        • I want there to be a multiplayer map that takes place on a moving train like in the mission New World, where initially the train starts with like twenty cars, but after every minute or so, an explosion occurs that uncouples the last train car. That way as time progresses, the match gets more and more intense with increasingly closer engagements.

          • jordanxbrookes

That’d be a crazy map to spawn on haha.

          • Gamerazor247

            Soooo… Like Uncharted 3?
Damn, Black Ops III = Deus ExXBlacklightXTitanfallXAWXUncharted!? Holy shit!!

          • Well, like that, but very different too. One train instead of two, a wider train, uncoupling dynamic feature, train never stops, and above ground instead of subway.

I believe Airstrip was the superior map anyways.

          • BigMacMan

Like FreeFall from Ghosts? I actually really liked that map

      • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

        So gimmicks?

        • Call them what you will. If they can become a more integral part of a map’s gameplay without being overly obnoxious, I would consider them otherwise.

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

They’d have to integrate them more significantly. It could work, if they can use current gen’s CPU properly for physics, instead of just opening doors and having scripted events.

    • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

      You want map fatalities back?

      • Thomas the Tankswag

Maybe, but id be fine with just anything dynamic even the spinning carousel in that AW map

        • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

They’d have to be far more dynamic, because Ghosts and Advanced Warfare’s were gimmicks.

          • Thomas the Tankswag

I dont want things as much as ghosts and aw where it can completely change a map (strikezone and recovery), i just want a little atmosphere in each map as Currently we have nothing

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

Yeah, they don’t have to overdo it, but also not make it a gimmick imo.

  • The map concepts this time around are very creative and appealing. Sub-orbital airport terminal? Military complex on an active volcano? Awesome! Though, hopefully their gameplay functions as great as they look.

  • Diego Diniz

I really dont like these “Military complex” Maps. Looks all the same SHIT!

    • CoDforever

People hated the splash map because it was too chilidish too.

      • Diego Diniz

Dont need to be chilidish..a war game can be COLORFUL like MW2 was. Crash and Overgrown (COD4 Maps) were REDESIGNED on MW2 with more colors and these maps are GREAT!

        • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

We don’t have to have color in our war games. Aesthetics are the least of our priorities.

  • Gooby

This looks like that one ghosts map, I think it was called Behemoth or something. Which was a horrible map btw…

    • Diego Diniz

All “Military complex” Maps looks the same…
      -Chop SHop from AW
-Gauntlet from BO3 (Military part of the map)
      -Behemot from Ghosts

I dont like these GREY maps…

      • Aidan

I like dark and gritty maps. they’re fun as hell, and in a game full of colorful weapons and ‘zany’ new aspects, I think that dark maps someone make up for all the shit that’s been added into the recent CoDs just so the developers can appeal more the the younger generation.

        For example…

      • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

It’s a war game lol. At least those “greys” are a bit more vibrant than other games.

      • Ak74u

At least bo3 actually has color. Ghosts was so pale and grey and washed out

        • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

          But it’s a war game.

          • Ak74u

I know that doesn’t mean it can’t have nice graphics and I’m saying that the color in bo3 is fine as it is not too colorful like bo2 and also not too pale like cod ghosts

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

Black Ops 3 is too, I don’t know, flamboyant? Childish? What was Splash all about, and an AQUARIUM map? Precisely my gripe lol. And aesthetics like colors =/= graphics.

          • Ak74u

Asthetics I mean sorry and you know what I dislike about some people, that they are so ignorant to say “this splash map is too childish for a cod game” you guys act like there’s never been a colorful and childish map before like that carnival map in mw2, the fair map in mw3 those maps were colorful and you bash on the newest cod for having a map like splash? I agree the theme of the map doesn’t fit a shooter game well, but I don’t mind map diversity I like it when maps are different as long as there isn’t many “kiddie” maps like splash I’m good for now I’m not complaining because that is only one map out of many and aquarium isn’t as kiddie like splash

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

Aquarium is pretty childish lol. But man, these devs have really lost their touch.

    • jordanxbrookes

I pointed that out on Twitter too. This is Behemoth 2.0.

      • Ak74u

Hey when I saw your post on learning to develop videogames I thought I should say thank you for standing up against skill based match making I remember when you got hate for speaking against it and at the time I wasn’t very informed about it much and how it impacts connection and all that stuff and I didn’t really bother to supporting you but near AW’s ending life cycle I realized you were right and the game could of been better with your suggestions and opinions on it so when I saw your comment on developing games I was happy to see that most of you guys here are smarter than most developers and I congratulate. Didn’t know where to post this or if on the article you takes about game developing so I just decided to post it on this one since its newer and maybe you’ll see it

  • NOVA_POLARIS

So do you guys think there will be a proper trailer or only these teasers?

    • hungryandrew

Teasers first, then proper trailer near release.

  • Sentinel

If only there’s another game studio ambitious enough to deliver a modern world class FPS war game that outsells the COD franchise! & not under Activision’s control (not BF)

    • jordanxbrookes

That’s why I’ve been studying games development for over 3 years. I hope that one day I can make that dream come true for not just myself but for the old CoD veterans as well.

      • Sentinel

Nice dude, I am too studying video game producer and working on my own project on the side. It is a tough industry but surely rewarding. Don’t lose hope!

        • jordanxbrookes

I shall never lose hope. After seeing the success of Battalion 1944, it only makes me more motivated to start creating ASAP.

          • Sentinel

Yess, It all starts somewhere! & have you heard of Days of War as well?

          • jordanxbrookes

I’ve heard of that game from Westie, but haven’t looked into it yet. Heard it looks good.

          • Sentinel

Yeah, at first I thought it was all under the same studio who’s currently developing Battalion but it ain’t. It does not look bad at all, we just have to wait and see & btw, Amazon has released a new Triple A game engine called lumberyard deeply integrated with Twitch, all entirely free! The only time you would have to pay fees, is if you would like to use online servers for multiplayer support. Here’s a link:

            https://aws.amazon.com/lumberyard/

          • jordanxbrookes

            Sounds cool.

      • ScOott

Don’t forget split screen people! For me to leave CoD u need split screen, dont let us die out..

        • jordanxbrookes

Of course, can’t forget people who like to play couch co-op 🙂

        • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

And 1080p on PS4, you can’t forget 1080p. Plot twist, Jordan makes it an Xbone/PC exclusive and it’s 720p on Xbone and 30 FPS cap on PC.

          • ScOott

By the sounds of it an upgraded version of the ps4 is coming with even more power.. Supposedly supporting 4k, 1080p might be a thing of the past by that time, what u think about the ps4.5?

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

I’ve known about that since the rumors started (they’re 100% confirmed), and I couldn’t care less. I’d rather get a Nintendo NX. I’d say let the gamers who have the money buy it. Also, I don’t think the *games* will be native 4k, I think that’s more like 4k Blu-Ray movies and such and the hardware will get a minor upgrade.

          • ScOott

Yh same,I really hope it’s not games as well.. I don’t even own a 4k TV to display 4k games.. Hopefully il get the nx as long as Nintendo dont fuck it up, some “leaked” image appeared and it don’t look good..

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

            They are all fake “leaks”.

    • lunator100hd .

Cod devs has the strongest game engine for FPS games out there, i dont belive there is gonna be a studio that is able to surpass them.

jordanxbrookes: You are wasting your time bro, without a good engine you willl never make a worth playing fps game.

      • jordanxbrookes

Call of Duty’s iD Tech 3 engine is old and outdated lmao. Sure it was great on last-gen but this gen is proving how much of a struggle the iD Tech 3 engine is compared to other great engines like Frostbite, Snowdrop etc. Also “wasting my time” is laughable. Sounds to me you have zero idea on developing games. Have you ever heard of engine licensing? Yes the engine needs to be good, but we already have free/cheap licensed engines like Unreal and Unity that are superior. Also if you think I’m on about making an entire FPS game myself then you are easily mistaken. I’d be with a team of devs obviously. Look at how Respawn started with like no less than 50 or 40 people and they went on to create an amazing new IP called Titanfall that showed current-gen’s multiplayer potential thanks to Azure.

        • lunator100hd .

Well if you plan to work with a team then its a diferent story, from your comment i thought you meant to build a game from the scrap alone which is imposible.

        • CoDforever

The engine is great because it supports fast fluid gameplay and controls and has Splitscreen and 60fps

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

They could replace that, but what’s questionable is if the developers (mainly Treyarch, the only relevant ones) can do it in 3 years. It took them 10 games to give it an overhaul.

        • Dr. Salim

Just because the engine can generate good graphics doesn’t make it good imo
          COD engine> Battlefield engine

          • jordanxbrookes

Never said it did, but these new engines are miles ahead of what the iD Tech 3 engine that Call of Duty still uses is, despite the developers slowly modifying it each year. Why do you think people have been crying out for a new engine in Call of Duty? With a more up-to-date engine you can do so much more than one that is over 15 years old.

          • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

Except Black Ops 3’s visuals are some of the best FPS visuals I’ve ever seen imo.

          • Aceshigh87

As much as I don’t like the direction CoD is heading that is how I feel. I want to like Battlefield but it just doesn’t feel right to me. The CoD engine may be old but it’s smooth as silk and FEELS good. I would love to get CoD with BF graphics but if I need to give up playability for graphics aim not going to be interested.

        • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

“Azure’s potential” = 792p, stupid bots, and terrible frame rate. 😛 I hope Titanfall 2 is a thousand times better. It’s time to stop believing the bullshit that Microsoft tries to feed us.

Frostbite and Snowdrop are good graphics engines, but they are not nearly as smooth as Call of Duty in regards to gameplay. Treyarch gave CoD a great start; they got rid of frame-rounding. They just can’t get rid of lag compensation, which is what they need to work on from now on.

      • Sentinel

I will have to disagree with you. There are many triple A game engines in the industry that stand along side with the cod engine. It will just take years and years for a small game studio get to the same level that cod devs are in at the moment or the right team of people(game studio) to compete against the most popular game industry. All 3 studios under activision have a huge team of programmers and software engineers that build on the same foundation of the cod engine or build an entirely new engine. They have the upper hand when it comes to getting it done within a 3 year period and gives them enough time to try out new and innovate things for the game, like “space warfare” Like I said before, IF only there’s a studio who is ambitious enough to go against the top ballers in the game industry. After all they all started small, with an solid idea and a group of dedicated people to make it come to life. Ideas are bullet proof.

  • was that dead ops arcade music?

  • ToonToons22

Off topic, but I was feeling the need to play a classic game, so I tried installing Call of Duty 4 on my PC a few days ago. After downloading all necessary updates, I get an error saying that Punkbuster is not supported by Activision anymore. So I basically can’t play the game unless I download an older version and risk compromising my computer’s security. Not only that, but I think the CoD4 servers have been shut down. I can’t play CoD4 multiplayer on my Xbox 360 because I tried doing that, and a hacker broke into my account on the VERY FIRST GAME.

Why Activision? Why have you let these wonderful masterpieces die at the hands of hackers and modders? They could be fixing the servers and allowing us to play these great games, but instead they are too busy adding weapons and stupid dance moves to Supply Drops. Shame on them.

    • Aidan

as much as I agree with you, CoD 4 is dead in Activision’s eyes.

    • Thomas the Tankswag

      https://youtu.be/JrjW0GLMHAs

This guy is suing them because of a similar problem to you. He wants cod2016 to be free for everyone that owns cod4.

      • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

        Whiteboy7thst lmao.

  • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

I’m fine with the maps as long as they’re similar to Raid in some format.

  • TRINI REAPER

I’ll ask the obvious question.. why aren’t they releasing a DLC trailer as a whole?

  • Liam Luz

I would like to see the volcano exploding at the end of the match. Like NUK3TOWN

  • Michael Romo

Wow. It doesn’t matter what comes next for CoD. People will find something to complain about

    • BradyAlucard[sillibk]

They have every right to complain about their AAA expensive ass game.

  • No1CoDVet

I’m not paying another penny towards this garbage game or Activision. Glad their stock price is plummeting and this Black Market Blackout motion is really harming their crappy business practices. I can’t believe this game is grossing LESS than Advanced Warfare LMFAO! The excitement of the new Battlefield is also gathering pace so if people aren’t too scared to play a proper MP experience; the new one is where all the action is going to be – boots on the ground and a proper grand war experience. I will laugh at all the people left playing IW’s sad excuse of a game with space battles and aliens and then buying oxygen supply drops. ”Call of Duty” sigh…

  • Joyfear

I think that for 30 kills as an update or part of the season pass package, they should add a system hack. But not like the one from AW, it should be called Corvis bomb. For the people who played the campaign they know about Corvis, the virus in the cybernetics program. I think that for every 30 or 40 or even 50 killstreak you can call in a Corvis bomb and make every other player (everyone who has cybernetic augmentation, so Outrider, Nomad, Firebreak, Spectre, and probably Seraph are out) kill themselves by getting down on their knees and turning their weapon on themselves.

  • Argy

Oh look… another small map with close quarter fights in a game that has only small maps with close quarter fights…
