Infinity Ward’s Multiplayer Project Director, Jordan Hirsh, has stated in an interview with PlayStation LifeStyle that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s multiplayer mode will have 12 maps available on disc at launch. For those that preorder and get Terminal, that brings the total to 13.

How many maps are you going to launch with?

Jordan: That’s funny, I was just asked this, and I don’t actually know for sure! I believe it’s 12 maps plus a pre-order bonus.

For comparison, Infinity Ward’s last title, Call of Duty: Ghosts, had 14 maps at launch (15 including Free Fall bonus). 12 maps is the same number of maps that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 had at launch.

Four out of the total 12 maps have already been revealed: Frost, Throwback, Breakout, and Frontier. More on those maps available here.

    I miss the old times when they made like 16 or at least 14 maps for theier games. Black Ops 3 and now Infinite Warfare are the games with the least number of maps ever in the series. Having 2~4 extra maps really makes a difference.

      Agreed there is no reall stand out map in Bo3 like Standoff and Raid from Bo2(New ver play differently with the boosting)

          Ghosts didn’t look terrible on current gen tbh. It had some pretty high-fidelity graphics, like tesselation (sub-d) and such.

  • How did we go from 14-15 maybe even 16 maps at launch with a 2 year development cycle to 12 with a 3 year development cycle? How does that make sense? You get more time to work on the game and we get less content…lol.

          Well, for starter, we have a loot system, don’t we? And then there’s Gunsmith, Paintshop, movement system, etc… There’s never a set date for when you finish with a feature. Sure, there’s a stage that they can be considered “done”, but software development is a fickle thing. Change something totally unrelated to another thing, and somehow that thing still breaks down and doesn’t work quite right. Hence the need to put in work for bugfixing throughout the year.

          Basically, writing codes is a shit job, even for the most professional developers. Shit breaks all the time, and given the massive amount of codes they have to sift through every day, it’s a time-consuming job. Especially when you work for a publisher that demands deadlines for new stuff, like more loot items and DLC maps.

            Uhh… I was talking about BO3. Pretty sure these weren’t present in Treyarch’s past games.

            Still, given that it’s an IW game, they are still new features to them. It’s nothing new to us, but to devs, they’re doing it the first time.

          • No. If it was in the last game, it wont be new in this year’s game regardless of the developer.

            How hard is it for you to get the idea? Treyarch created Gunsmith and the whole “6 attachments per gun” and such, but IW never did. To them, it’s a new feature that they have to learn in order to use in their game. That means thousands of codes and lines to study and write, maybe even more. That requires a substantial amount of time to work with. Time that could cut in the development of other things, like the number of maps at launch.

          • And once again, not new. You said new features, If IW completely rips off what BO3 ideas and features it’s not NEW REGARDLESS OF THE DEVELOPER. No excuse to have only 12 maps especially when you’re pulling them out your ass like “oh more time is being focused on paintshop and gunsmith ” bullfuckingshit dude.

            As do i. I believe this extra year has been all about the movement system and additional content(Supply drop content/Weapons). When we go back to boots on the ground(Hopefully with Sledgehammers next game) it should give them more time to actually make decent maps and better overall balance. Hopefully better net code too lol

          If they would rather put the time in effort into 12 great maps rather than 15/16 where they have made an extra 3 or 4 half arsed maps just to bloat out the game. 100% I’m down for that. More doesn’t always equate to better.

          • I mean if you look at it that way that’s true but in Call of Duty, the maps are average and they are the same. Even Infinity Ward said that it’s a three lane map design and maps are small to medium and there are only 12? Yeah. Totally. That’s boring. I want more content. MW2 had bigger maps and there was more maps at launch, same for CoD4.

      It is in the playlist. They took it out or rotation for a month or so to patch some glitches but it has been back for a while now
