David Vonderhaar has just confirmed via Twitter that Black Ops 2 MP’s matchmaking system will be based upon your latency and ping, not your region.

This is a new feature, as MW3 does matchmaking based upon regions. This may help with connection issues and allow better connectivity with host.

  • Great news! Hopefully this will reduce the lag by a good amount and people will stop blaming their connection for beating them 🙂

  • Also, where is that first screenshot from? Do you have images of all of the League Play Divisions?

  • Mr. Adri360

Oh My GOD!! 18 Days! =D *The Future is Black (OPS II)*. ^^

  • Fred

Yay, that’s amazing, I was actually really concerned about that.
But just for the record, MW3 ‘s matchmaking system IS ping based already, it shows that it’s searching for lobbies with <50 ; <75 ; <100 ping and goes on…

    • De_nylon_badmuts

No it has not, I don’t have the knowledge to explain this the right way, but the BO2 latency/ping search should be far better then BO1 and MW3 localization search, hope this also means the end of host lag compensation

    • KH91

it may be searching ping, but its still searching strictly in your region. This will connect you with anyone whose got a similar ping/connection regardless of where they are.

  • Martin903

Sounds like he is saying it’s ping based exclusively for the local search option only. He wouldn’t be talking about the entire matchmaking system and the basis for how it works as just having made it and being tested with 3 weeks left. Needs clarification.

It really sounds like this is a great new thing to help reduce lag. I literally haven’t seen a single thing about this game that makes me go “hmmm, don’t think I’m gonna like that…” Even though I have thoroughly enjoyed MW3 and still play it today, I have had a lot of those moments with it…

  • dibils

finally!! shit connections can play with other shit connections. i have a super internet and i lag cause of those people!! hopefully this works and i can get the connection speed my actual connection deserves

  • Notfair

    asian dedicated server please

  • Dmail

How will the new system deal with parties of players from different geographical locations?

  • Ranger

Wasn’t this how it was in MW2? “New feature” my ass.

    • Alex Davis

I kinda agree with you, but look at it this way; It’s new for the Treyarch team’s games and it’s also a positive change from MW3. So really, while I agree with you, it’s not a big deal since it’s definitely a good thing.

    • Exsanabria

Yeah, except Modern Warfare 2 sucked dick and Black Ops 2 will be sick. That’s the main difference.

  • Gumbie7

Is lower ping better? I can’t remember.

  • Rich Herminghaus

Dibils….just because you have a SUPERDUPER internet connection doesn’t mean you are ever going to play online without lag. There are many other factors that go into it….much more than your uber leet interwebs.

  • some guy

Yeah but if MW3 was region based why does the matchmaking saying it is searching for games < 50ms, 75ms, 100ms, etc…?

  • Steve

live on an Island 80 miles off of England . I’m at a disadvantage straight away .Can only get 3 bars on Xbox while using super fast broadband.
