Before I begin, we’re not gonna go in detail to explain every feature of the multiplayer experience. If you’re on this blog, then chances are you’ve received all the intel we’ve gathered since May when the game was announced. What we will do is give you our opinions and impressions of the final product.

Activision was nice enough to send us a review copy last week so we can see how far the game has come since we last played it at Treyarch. The thing is, the game was already perfect when we last played it. Make no mistake, this is NOT Black Ops 1.5 or an expansion. Graphics, user interface, gameplay has been taken to another level. Here’s are top 3 innovations for Black Ops 2…

“PICK 10” Create-a-Class

Treyarch has some guts. They took what everyone was use to and changed it up, not because they had to but because it works. No longer are you forced to pick a pistol or equipment you never use. Now you can go into battle like real life Operators with gear that you’re comfortable with and that you’ll actually use. We’ve also been dreaming of the day for when it would be possible to put 3 attachments on a weapon, that day has finally come.

Another risk Treyarch took was with the all new ‘Wildcards’ which is a brand new element introduced into Create-A-Class. Equipping a Wildcard will use up one of your ten available slots, which bend the rules to allow you to use multiple attachments, weapons, and even perks. All in all, Pick-10 lets you play the way you want.

People take it for granted but “presentation” can make a huge difference. New menus, layouts, and new characters along with a 2025 setting are all it takes to erase any feeling you might have that you’re playing Black Ops 1.5. From the moment you see the Treyarch logo to the futuristic feel of the Main menu and lobbies, it feels like you’re playing a true sequel to Black Ops. One of the main issues we had with MW3 was that in many ways it felt like Modern Warfare 2.5 with new guns and maps. That is not the case here, the love and detail Treyarch put in this game is evident.

It’s safe to say the majority of people are getting Black Ops 2 for it’s multiplayer component, but when you start up the game you discover that you’ve actually bought 3 games in 1. The amount of work they put into Singleplayer, Multiplayer, and Zombies is mind blowing. Coming from Corporate direction, it’s amazing they didn’t sell each mode on 3 disc with 3 different prices. Take it from us, you’re getting your money’s worth…

It’s time for me to go on the record. I may love Call of Duty but it doesn’t mean that Im the best player. In fact Im average at best. So imagine my surprise when I was getting multiple scorestreaks in a match by racking up scores points for capturing objective and shooting down UAVs. Call of Duty finally rewards you for playing. The more you play to help your team and participate the better you will succeed.

By now you should know that Killstreaks (along with MW3’s Assault, Support, and Specialist) are long gone. You now have 22 Scorestreaks at your disposal, all of which are probably the best ever in a Call of Duty game. Old favorites are back along with some new ones straight from 2025. Hunter Killer, Dragonfire, and Swarm will keep you running for cover. Thew new futuristic take on the vehicles features blend perfectly into the 2025 combat setting. Kind of makes you wonder if our kids will be taking that into battle one day to protect our country…

We’re haven’t had a chance to experience Leagues or COD Casting since our review was based on pre-launch gameplay so we’ll have to save that for another day.

5 stars thats very bold! im yet to play the game my self although i have heard many people alredy complaining andsaying its either the same old COD or just that black opps is a shitty game … im prety sure im going to love this game however so im not worying thanks for reasuring me 😛

  • Boris Guyon-Pelfrene

You forgot that the community pegs the score down quite a bit.

  • Chris Ilott

It’s absolutely fantastic! 6/5 in my opinion 😀 my kd is holding up at 2.15 😛

  • “Pick-10 lets you play the way you want.” – And this is what is wrong with Call of Duty. It tries to deliver a product that appeals to a very wide audience. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the game, but I personally don’t mind the design of the game keeping the players in line. If those players don’t like the rules, then they probably should not play the game. You don’t change the rules to fit more players to make more money.

    • bitch

Because itd be so much better to have black ops 1 replica with a new gun. Hell, it shouldnt even be set in the future, it should be the exact same game but in the story you get to play as woods! Why the hell wouldn’t anyone want that, right? Fucking dumbass hater, go back to mw3. Im happy I dont have to play against you

    • popped

Uh dude? You can still have a class that you’re used to.
      For example:
1 Assault Rifle with one attachment
      1 secondary with one attachment
      3 perks
      1 lethal
      2 tacticals

Disappointed that’s the feeling I have now after playing 1 day, level design, spawns and the overal feeling of the game…I don’t know..I give it a few days but right now it feels like a waste of my money

  • Klaypex

Yea. Dont know but many people call it the worst CoD MP so far. Random spawns, awful netcode ( still), too tiny maps, etc. Etc.

I havent played it yet. Game is comming next few days but im not very motivated after all that negative critics.

    • JoseB88

Yup. Those are problems that are occurring right now. Enemy team spawns behind you when you least expect it. Camping?? Yea that still happens no matter what. They sit there most of the game. Hit markers? Bad. Like half of the gun fights I lose them even after I get te first shot on the enemy. But it’s the first 24 hours of the games release.

    • Chief Lamia

No worse than MW3, but yes, it’s really bad. Small ass maps, no recoil, insane fire rate thus no chance to respond to any danger. ETC.

Sad, looks like Black Ops 1 remains the best fps ever for a little while longer.

      • Film

No recoil? Seriously? You’ve got to be kidding me! They all have some form of recoil. You can’t possible consider turbine a “small ass map”.
And insane fire rate? Now you’re just looking for things to bitch about. From my experience, I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Been playing call of duty since 6 months after the release of Black Ops. When MW3 was released I never thought Id see the light shine for another great game. Black Ops 2 is delivered, I play it, Im proved wrong. Best Call of Duty yet. Takes skill to play without camping and thats why I liked MW3. The rushing theme is in this game but it feels like a mix of Black Ops and MW3 with some Halo every now and then. Great game overall, 5/5

    • Kamehameha5000

      I totally agree

  • swarm69

im back and proved right! while i agree with what some people are saying about map desighn some of the maps are way too small, and the spawns ocasionaly tricky especialy in tdm/ free for all. i love the game the guns feel great sniping is fixed from bo1, and all over hit detection is consistant and ive had very few lag / conection issues!!! my biggest problem with this game at the moment comes down to sound! grenades are literly deafening if you wear a headset and by comparison footsteps are entirly undetectable (although i havent unlocked awarenes yet!) but i shouldent need a fucking perck in order to soundwhore … still i hope that that will be patched along with a couple of other things ( excicutioner damage, FFA spawns etc)

I would actually give this game a 4/5. I love the new Pick 10 System, which has really allowed me to try out new things. I also really love the look and detail that has gone into every map. And I have to say that the new scorestreak system is really nicely done.

However, I think that in their efforts to stop camping they have actually made it worse. By putting the Ghost Perk all the way at the end, I’ve noticed that a lot more people camp, get a UAV, and then camp more easily. I guess I am disgruntled about this because as far as it goes, this game’s Ghost is actually the weakest in the series and so it doesn’t need to be level locked so damn high.

Second, some of the maps are astounding and well done, but others just feel bland and too much like MW3. In my opinion, Aftermath could have used some more work to make it less of a path map and more of an open feeling. Similarly, I feel that while trying to please snipers that the map Carrier is just weak. I’d like to note that these are only a few and far maps that I feel this way, where they feel rather too much old and stupid.

Third, I wish the lag was fixed in this game. It just feels… laggy always. I know that with time some of this will be fixed, but until then it’s painful to run a corner, fire at a guy, and suddenly he jumps and you die.
