Infinity Ward has posted an update on the official Call of Duty forums discussing some of the upcoming eSports updates coming to Call of Duty: Ghosts soon.

Here’s the update from Infinity Ward’s Senior Community Manager, Tina Palacios:

These will appear as both hot fixes and TUs in the coming weeks alongside planned changes to the areas of Ghosts affecting all players, such as spawns. As a guiding principle, development priority is assigned to those issues which we deem to have the largest immediate impact or those affecting the broadest group of players.

Regarding eSports specifically in the immediate future, we aim to:

  • Restrict Ghillie suits in competitive rules.
  • Restrict Tracker Sights in competitive rules.
  • Restrict Danger Close in competitive rules.
  • Disable third-person spectating in competitive Private Matches.
  • Add a kill feed to Broadcaster mode.
  • Address Broadcaster mode stability (squash crash bugs).

Additionally, we’re committed to delivering the below (in no particular order):

    • Removal of split-screen in Private match when eSports rules are enabled.
    • Add eSports rules to Clan vs. Clan playlist.
    • Open Clan v Clan playlist to allow solo player entry & mixed clan teams.
    • Modify Dead Silence/Amplify functionality.

    • Resolve the defuse timer animation discrepancy.
    • Modify the defuse time sound effects if the defuse process is cancelled.

Broadcaster Mode:

    • Add game action overlays where needed (flag captures, etc.).
    • Resolve the leaderboard’s red death indicator delay.
    • Roll over player in scoreboard to highlight arrow in mini-map.

New Platform:

  • Investigating the addition of Xbox One LAN support.

Yes, League Play is returning in some form!

    • lumps-of-a-god

Yes they are doing a great job but by the time ghost is in middle year we should be able to see:
      New Game modes
      Fixed Glitches/Bugs

  • mac

Let’s fix the real problem. Then worry about league esports. I’m getting tired of getting stomped by the badger and mtar.

    • Mark

the badger lmao. That’s definitely the real problem with this game.

      • Oag0

The badger? One of the worst assault rifles in the game?

        • Super_Deluxe

It’s actually one of the best. It’s very accurate once you put the grip on it.

          • Oag0

Yea with its SMG range, low damage, slow fire rate, terrible horizontal recoil, only 90 bullets..

          • Michael Ma Chile Cortes

With red dot and single fire it becomes an absolute monster
All of its drawbacks are buffed

    • lumps-of-a-god

just don’t engage in close range battles 80% your gonna lose that battle due to the delay in the cod world.

      • Super_Deluxe

Umm no that’s not why you lose gun battles in this game. You die so fast that anyone can kill you regardless of their gun skill, that’s why. I have a 2.72 K/D in Black Ops 2 and I was rushing 90% of the time. Black Ops 2 requires you to have decent to good gun skill, yes lag is a factor sometimes but I’m talking about when the connection is ok. You will definitely lose gun battles of the other person has better gun skill than you. A person who’s aim is on point will beat the other who’s missed some shots. There is a huge skill gap in Ghosts, you don’t need to have gun skill to do well in this game, it’s the first one who gets their shot off wins 85% of the time which is why people pre-aim or sit and wait for their opponent. Same thing with MW2. So no, lag isn’t the only factor in losing close quarter gun battles, it’s the one who got their shot off first usually wins due to the low amount of health. This is why I like Black Ops 2 better than Ghosts, because you have to have at least decent aim to do well. Yes it has lag issues and gun balancing issues but it depends on the type of connection quality you play on. I always played on “Best Connection” and experienced lag alot less which hasn’t been such a huge issue for me. Definitely looking forward to Black Ops 3 if Treyarch fixes the few major problems in Black Ops 2. And I really do hope IW increases the health even more in Heavy Duty because it’s feeling like a placebo effect so far.

        • bsktballmsu1

wouldn’t that mean there is a small skill gap if you don’t need good gunskill. you said huge skill gap in ghosts, there was a huge skill gap in ghosts

          • Super_Deluxe

Nope, skill gap means the lack of skill and it’s very easy to do well in Ghosts. And that’s why I liked the idea of a heavy duty playlist but unfortunately it isn’t much of a difference compared to the regular playlists. You die just as fast. I’ve only noticed the longer health from long range where it takes more bullets to kill but nothing from medium to close range. Still not happy with it.

        • bImperial

Uh no….health is not lower in this game….there is lower frame skipping therefore you actually HIT your target and not have ghost bullets like BO2…..not only that but overall the guns have a bit more damage than normal… is the same….you dont die “faster” you just actually get hit

          • Super_Deluxe

I know that, I never said the hit detection was bad in fact it’s the best since mw2. I wasn’t sure what was causing the quick deaths, either it’s the guns that have higher damage or its the health that’s lower and I don’t care because the issue does exist. I hate dying quick especially when someone is preaiming me around the corner knowing that I’m coming because of the OP Amplified perk. I don’t care what they have to do, be it lower the gun damage or increase the health in Heavy Duty which ever is the problem. I just want the other person to earn their kill and not some easy 2 or 3 bullet death as do many who also complain about the same issue.

        • lumps-of-a-god

          what is this bullsh** response….

          • Super_Deluxe

Umm no I won’t stop. If you think having shitty aim isn’t also a reason to lose close quarter gun battles then you’re clueless..

    • ccrows

Wait, are you serious complaining about the Honey Badger? Really?.. Really?…

    • sunrise

The HoneyBadger, beside the ARX and the FAD, is absolutely the worst AR in Ghosts. It’s not a coincidence if the most used AR in competitive is the Remington. I never saw a single Badger 🙂
After the Remington, the best ones are AK and SC.

  • MSTAR020

I am wondering what is going on here. Does MLG ban the following or something? UMG didn’t. I hope IW isn’t calling all the shots, I know that would be near impossible.

Restrict Ghillie suits in competitive rules.

Restrict Tracker Sights in competitive rules.

Restrict Danger Close in competitive rules.

    • manumanu

this are the new rules umg philly didnt have those rules but most teams didnt use these (gentleman attitude)

    • Boomboom

You really need to know what you are talking about before writing a comment like this. Umg philly wanted to use these rules but they weren’t banned in time of the event so the next events will have all these things ban

    • cRi7iCaL

These restrictions were planned before UMG but not executed by IW (maybe due to miscommunication).
There has been a gentleman-agreement between the top teams but there is one versatile pro who still wanted to play with Danger Close.

      • Misogynist

        Phizzurp is God

  • James K

Edit: Eh I guess the argument could be raise that the ghillie suit blends into the environment too easy.

I guess that would put some minds at rest playing competitive Cod.

    Modify Dead Silence/Amplify functionality.—

First off, how do you bold? Second off, finally. I feel like I’m fighting against Sonars when I see an entire clan running amplify. I watch the killcam to see how players instantly react at the sound of my footsteps and destroy me. I don’t have a headset; just an average mic. Since Amplify counters Dead Silence, non-headset users are at a severe disadvantage, especially in S&D and S&R. The developers should remove both perks in the game or realistically in future titles . It’s problematic balancing them so the best solution is just can both of them.

Now I hope IW address the growing plague of the Riot Shield/Danger Close/C4/Reflex combo. As a reminder, IW changed the animation of equipment being thrown while under the cover of the riot shield. Instead of the standard animation which expose most of your body in previous titles, it’s only your arm in the new one. Riot Shield users are taking full advantage of it in S&D/S&R and it’s completely frustrating to deal with them. . Danger Close completely overpower the Explosive Resist perk so once the riot shield user bump into me, they’ll toss their C4 and it’s game over. The only counter is to fight fire with fire(i.e use explosives) but I hate see one of my favorite game mode, Search and Recuse be unplayable by the rampant use of that class.

IW needs to buff the strength of Explosive Resist and change of the animation of tossing equipment while holding a riot shield so players will be expose again. Hell, maybe make Danger Close increase the minimum range of explosives instead of the raw damage. Either way, this class is a growing threat in this game.

    • Boomboom

Im glad you took time to write all of that but after reading it I realize you are we call a pub star and have no idea about competitive. Please know stuff about competitive before writing about anything under a competitive problem

      • K

Wow, you’re a rude douchebag ain’t you. He never even said the word “competitive” in his post. The stuff he mentions in his post are genuine issues with the game, competitive or not.

        • will.⚡️

K, do you realize that this post is dedicated to competitie, and not general issues with the game? Thank you boomboom for pointing this out to these two.

          • Boomboom

            No problem

          • K

Quite obviously i do realise what its about. But it makes no odds what the post is dedicated about mate, there’s no need to be rude or dismissive about a legitimate opinion.

And don’t kid yourself. 99% of people who buy CoD only play public lobbies and couldn’t think twice about competitive. Surely they should balance public games properly as well for the entire 99% as well as for the tiny minority interested in competitive?

      • James K

        It’s relevant for updates.

      • James K

Heh, I’m not even a pub star.

Besides, it’s relevant in updates, not competitive.

    • exeterman2

S&D is a very competitive game mode where a lot of clans (including mine) enjoy the harder matches and increased skill level. Don’t complain because you don’t have a headset in a highly competitive game mode. Theses perks are available to everyone and are not an unfair advantage, with a headset you will hear someone without using amplify.

      • James K

Just because everyone have the ability to equip amplify doesn’t mean it’s not overpowered. It completely change the meta-game for the worse. Players can pinpoint players too easy with that perk. Pretty much the only counter for it is to crouch walk which slow the game down. S&D community was riled up when IW buffed Sitrep Pro in MW3. The developers are doing the same mistake.

If Dead Silence completely negate Amplify then I will be happy with the change.

        • exeterman2

I suppose, and if it completely stopped it then dead silence would be OP. I guess it would just be easier to take them out.

      • K

Problem is that requiring a headset adds another purchase on top of the game. They’ve spent £45 on the game itself, and now they need to buy an expensive headset to remain competitive?

Surely the game should be balanced so that everyone in the game is on a level playing field without being able to throw more money at it for a huge advantage? It’s almost pay-to-win in that sense!

Being competitive in CoD shouldn’t need any more than skill with a controller. It shouldn’t need you to buy expensive gear to hear people three miles away.

        • thinh

You don’t need expensive headsets, cheap headsets like the pla and XL1 are perfect for sound whoring with amplify when playing Ghosts. No need to waste lots of money…

          • K

That is true, but it’s still extra money that has to be spent to be able to play competitively. I think you should require nothing more than just the game to be competitive.

That way, more players will be able to play and CoD as an e-sport will be able to grow if their are less financial barriers in taking part in the first place!

Also, a cheaper headset tends to only offer you stereo sound, The more expensive ones are surround sound, so you can also hear if an opponent is in front or behind you, so paying more does offer you a bigger advantage.

I think competitive CoD should be a game of gunplay and tactics, that’s all, and the only advantage should be personal skill rather than the quality of headsets. My personal opinion, you’re more than entitled to your own however!

        • exeterman2

You can’t change the fact that a game has sound. A headset provides better sound for everything and it’s not a major advantage like having hacks. And if people want to spend extra money on it then why not? It’s not pay 2 win. I won a lot and was a good player before I got my headset. I got it so that I could compete in more competitive clan v clan games. You can get a headset for like £20, if you can afford the game then you can afford the headset.

  • abhi

and not even a single mention of performance improvement of pc version..IW u r such a shit company

  • youfinished

Please bring back ground war we have many players in our clan and without ground war we constantly have to split to multiple parties making practicing with one another sometimes difficult!!!

Practicing in Ground War? Against Randoms?

  • drwashyass

Charlie intel please find some information about the onslaught map pack, anything will do

  • IronWolf

No SnD Clan vs Clan 🙁

  • Soul Fragment Inc

When is xbox one going to get broadcaster mode for cod ghost. And when is Microsoft going to add the ability to live stream games with twitch, google plus etc.
Microsoft needs to get with the program.

  • Mark L DeSabato

As an ex-competitive player, I’m glad to see these eSports changes coming to Ghosts because they were severely needed.

However since I’m on the more casual end of things now, seeing that Amplify/Dead Silence are being modified gives me hope. I haven’t played Ghosts since the end of November. I played it for 2 weeks, got to top 15 in the world for SnD and then as soon as I saw people starting to abuse Amplify I gave my Ghosts to my little cousin and started playing Battlefield 4. 145 Hours later, they’re finally mentioned a possible patch to fix something that ruined SnD/SnR for any skilled players. They make these changes I’ll definitely go pick the game up again.

    • exeterman2

These perks give a chance to the non-headset players. With a headset you don’t need amplify to hear footsteps.

  • Duffnez

  • dikzakBart

    League play returns!!!!!!

  • ThatGuy123

@InfinityWard You guys should make it like bo2 where there is a sepate option from multiplayer…So you can get guns and perks fir free rather than buying it
