Activision’s Community Manager, Dan Amrich, is no longer with Activision. Dan was known as OneOfSwords over at Activision and has been there for a while now. He’s been working as their overall Community Manager on all Activision franchises. Dan has announced via his personal Twitter, @DanAmrich, that he has joined Ubisoft to work as a Community Developer at Studio SF at RockSmith Games.

Today, he posted his last blog post on talking about his departure:

There was something special about Mondayโ€™s post regarding the Call of Duty Championships, but with any luck, you didn’t even notice. I didn’t write it; my friend MacLean Marshall did. Mac has been a gamer working in the industry for years, legendary for his exploits at E3, gamescom and Poquito Mas. Mac and a small team of friends at Activision will be taking the reins of One of Swords from here, while I move on to tackle a new adventure in San Francisco. Iโ€™ve wanted to return to the Bay Area for a while now, and I’ve been given an opportunity back there that I simply canโ€™t pass up. As Harry Nilsson sang, Iโ€™m going where the weather suits my clothes.

I joined Activision four years ago with the goal of building a two-way bridge between the company and its fans, simultaneously pulling back the curtain while standing in front of it. I had been given the freedom to find my voice and build a community of people who love games as much as I do. I also got to champion games like Blur and Prototype 2, shine a light on some people who don’t get enough credit, and even interview my boyhood hero, Pitfall! creator David Crane. And of course, I got to meet a lot of gamers and play tons of games with them — which is the point, really.

Dan says that a small team at Activision will be taking over for the future.

Fair enough, good luck to him at Ubisoft ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Just seems strange that the OneOfSwords “community” will be continued by someone else. It seems more of a personal thing of Dan’s yet someone else will be taking his thing and running with it without him involved at all.

    • Tommy Day

I agree. Dan is s great guy and im sad to see him go. Wish you the best of luck.

  • There goes another great person, good luck

So much people quitting this time

  • Thanks guys. Dragon, I had the luxury of setting up the project and Activision gave me a lot of freedom and autonomy, but the goal was always to build something larger than myself on behalf of Activision. If it ended with me, I’d feel it was a failure on some level — like, all that for nothing? So I’m genuinely happy I helped build something that others want to continue to grow and that Activision still values.

That said, it’s been a wild ride and I’m grateful I got to see so much of the Call of Duty franchise’s development up close. I will miss picking the brains of the development teams, because I always learned something from them.

      Best of luck to you.

Too bad for the Activision community.

Dan is an absolute class act.

Best of luck to you at Ubisoft.

Thanks Dan, Great job. Looks like the failure of ghosts is hitting everyone!

      • This was a personal choice based on a personal opportunity. I’m still a Call of Duty player and fan, even if my job is no longer connected to the franchise. Please don’t read into it beyond that. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • K.E.M

What will you be working on at ubi?

      • Rocksmith, which is a perfect fit for my guitar geekery. ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Mr.Roovun

Bah! You should go with Montreal, they make the badass games like AC and the upcoming game, (which might just kill GTA) Watch Dogs!

    • DanDustEmOff

Wish you all the best at Ubisoft, they have lots of interesting titles in the works. Also thanks for taking the time to reply to me on Twitter. People don’t usually take the time to reply when you have a complaint or an opinion that differs from theirs. Will you still be going by OneofSwords or does that go to the new community manager?

  • jordanxbrookes

Good luck in your future over at Ubisoft Dan!

  • Ryumoau

he seemed like a nice guy so i wish him luck at ubisoft. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Good Luck, Dan.

  • Good luck in the future Dan Amrich, you did a great job ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s going to be more fun to work with Assassin’s Creed and such games anyways ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Unless this is already known, Infinity Ward tweeted out the next CoD will be Modern Warfare 4. It was then taken down when I was about to post it here. It was 7 hours ago from right now.

    • fires

Ghosts was mw4, they changed it because they didnt want to play it safe and expected

What does this have to do with call of duty

You know what this guy DIDN’T accomplish for COD players? Getting a support phone number for Activision for those times when you call Sony 4-5 times and they have no more suggestions about why COD isn’t working on your PS4.

    • I often served as Customer Support’s wingman, directing people to the info they needed, but I didn’t work directly in CS. That said, I did give it out the support number to people when it was active, but ultimately Activision switched to an all-digital CS structure. That wasn’t my decision, mind you, and I don’t know if you asked me directly about this on Twitter, but I’m sorry if you feel I failed you in some way, However, if there’s no number to give, I can’t give you a number, you know?

If you do still need assistance, you can contact Activision Customer Support at @ATVIAssist on Twitter, /activisionassist on Facebook, or and send an email via the form there. I haven’t had issues with Ghosts on PS4, so I don’t know exactly what you are seeing, but if you give the CS team as many specific details you can about what you are experiencing, you’ll have a better chance of getting it resolved.

It’s funny when people talk shit anonymously online, only to have the person they are talking about reply.

        • thebulky1cometh

It was more a case of talking shit about Activision/venting 10 days’ worth of frustration to a former employee, but you can keep trying to stir the pot…with your anonymous avatar…

      • thebulky1cometh

Thank you, but I can’t have a public twitter because of work, I couldn’t find anything on Facebook, and the “chat to a support member” on Activision has been not working for over a week; essentially, I had a faulty product and no way to contact Activision.

You sound like a good guy, sounds like Activision lost a great employee.

  • Alex

@ Dan Amrich, Mate…. Good luck in your new role . I imagine far less stressful than working at Activision

Can you please do our best to answer the below.

Are Activision / IW aware just how we (the community) feel about Ghosts ?

    Do they know that :
We are frustrated with a sub pair game they put out ?
    We hate the maps ?
    The spawns SUCK ?
    The game is NOT FUN

I hope they are shitting themselves becuase they will lose a big chuck of customers

    • fires

SUB PAR? HOLY SHIT KID PLAY BF4 AT RELEASE AND COME BACK! Damn, EA’s investors were trying to sue because it was obvious bf4 wasnt ready for that release, and was rushed for a cod ghosts competition

    • fires

Also, thats your opinion, its not gonna win any awards for multiplayer, but i still got my moneys worth out of it.
