Activision has just issued a press release announcing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The new title launches November 4th and is the first Call of Duty title from Activision with a three year development cycle, and the first time Sledgehammer Games is going all in on their own.

One of  highlights from the press release is that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is being developed specifically for next-gen and PC. The game is launching on Xbox 360 and PS3, but the two next-gen platforms and PC are their priorities.

Here’s the press release:

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Boosts Franchise to New Heights on the Next Generation

Power Changes Everything on November 4

Starring Academy Award® Winning Actor Kevin Spacey, New Call of Duty Delivers a Stunning Vision of the Future

First Call of Duty game created with three-year development cycle

First Call of Duty game helmed by new AAA studio, Sledgehammer Games

Prepare for the Next Generation Advanced Soldier

SANTA MONICA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The power of the next generation of advanced soldier. The power of a gripping performance from Kevin Spacey. The power of all-new, exoskeleton gameplay mechanics. Power changes everything. Call of Duty®: Advanced Warfaredelivers an inspired new era of Call of Duty®. Published by Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq: ATVI), and developed for next gen consoles and PC by Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare delivers a breathtaking, new vision for the blockbuster franchise.

“We’ve made several key decisions with an eye towards creative excellence on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. We’ve really approached this game differently,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “This is our first three-year development cycle. It’s our first time with Sledgehammer Games at the creative helm. And we’re shaking up the formula in several ways. New core gameplay mechanics with the exoskeleton suit. A riveting new story. An iconic new character played by one of the world’s best actors in Kevin Spacey. We’re having a lot of fun making this game, and we think the world is going to have even more fun playing it.”

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare jolts players forward in a groundbreaking experience that’s ripped-from-the-headlines-of-tomorrow, envisioning a future where both technology and tactics have evolved to usher in a new era of combat for the franchise. Set in the year 2054, a private military corporation (PMC) has emerged with the power to rescue humanity from a devastated world struggling to rebuild after a global attack on its military and infrastructure. You are the advanced soldier. Empowered with new, cutting-edge exoskeleton abilities, technological advancements and high-tech gear, players join the ranks of a highly-trained, specialized unit committed to restoring order in a state of advanced warfare.

“It’s been a lot of fun working with the team to bring Jonathan Irons to life. The technology is truly remarkable and unlike anything I’ve done before. I’m excited to see where this goes,” said Academy Award® winner Kevin Spacey.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is being developed specifically for next gen consoles and PC. This is the first iteration of publisher Activision’s expanded three-year development cycle allowing the debut lead title from Sledgehammer Games an added year of studio development. With the expanded production capabilities, Sledgehammer Games is able to create an astonishing new, next generation experience, featuring an array of technical advancements from the sights and sounds that create a near photorealistic world unlike any Call of Duty before, to new performance capture and facial animation technologies that deliver lifelike characters, to a rich and immersive story that brings the fiction to life.

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and an honor for Sledgehammer Games. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is the most ambitious and creative project we have ever worked on. From the endless research and thousands of production designs, to our incredible focus on the narrative and amazing attention to detail – we’re taking nothing for granted,” said Glen Schofield, co-founder and game director of Sledgehammer Games. “Call of Duty connects with the fans on such a deep level, and crafting a new vision for the next generation has been so inspiring for us.”

Michael Condrey, co-founder and studio head of Sledgehammer Games added, “Glen and I created this team with the singular vision of delivering the best work of our lives. We know we’re stepping into some pretty big shoes, but every day I’m amazed at the talent and focus at work here touching everything from the story experience to multiplayer. We’re excited to lead the next chapter in this great franchise, and we can’t wait for November 4th.”

  • Jack Lame

The graphics look non Next Gen.

    • Camo

get some glasses, watch the trailer in 1080p and you’ll see that this clearly looks ‘Next-Gen’ – but hey, what is ‘Next-Gen’.

    • These graphics have nothing on Flower! 😉

    • Batman

THese graphics put frostbite on shame.
      Bf is just lightning

  • Hopefully the pc version wont be a shitty port like ghosts

    • Sal

Same… Being stuck on this PC because I have no consoles sucked. I’m sure I would enjoy Ghosts a lot more if wasn’t for the bad port

At least it’s not as bad as Dark Souls :p

    • NosAegis

Dont hold your breath. More people buy it for consoles than they do for PC. Appealing the masses instead of the few.

      • Ben

They can eaisely lose ~0,5m customers… okay, it’s not a big number compared to the other platforms, but still bringing some money to Kotick.

      • cptobvious

nobody wants to game with the few. The lame dorks who use mouses to aim their sniper rifles and are afraid of controllers.

        • Kevin M. Coe

Sad part is. It has been tested numerous times that if a pc player played against a console player. Cross platform pc players come out on top. Plus who doesnt like the increase of graphics on the pc compared to the graphics on the consoles. I mean hello PS4 is better then xbox in graphics. And if you played watch dogs on the lowest setting on pc. You have the graphics of someone playing on the PS4.

    • exeterman2

It’s ok, it was shite on console too.

    • herojuan

PC people still don’t get how irrelevant they are. Look at your abandoned Titanfall servers and it’s obvious.

      • Im not even playing titanfall lol

      • sahzoom

Uh irrelevant? Oc sales for games have surpassed console sales, so yah, PC is TOTALLY irrelevant

        • sahzoom

  • jordanxbrookes

‘Set in the year 2054’ Thankgod it’s not past 2100.

    • fulzee

I like the new profile pic!

      • jordanxbrookes

Thx, it’s to stylize with Advanced Warfare 🙂

    • TheShadowReaper

lol AW style profile pic. what a ripoff!…said no one ever! good to have you on the hype train brookes! welcome aboard! 😀

      • I will rip everyone apart that tries to stop the train

        • TheMostManlyMan

Try me! But that starts later, for now I’m trying to avoid hype trains and remain as neutral as possible.

          • Sifhsifhsifh

My man. Hype train is a really faggy thing.

          • TheMostManlyMan

If the rest of them would only recall the outcome of Ghosties hype train…..

          • Swordsman

I wish I could like your post more than once.

          • fires

Ghosts wasn’t even that bad, its like you guys are talking about superman 64*shudders*, or even sonic 06*shudders again*. Campaign was nice, and extinction/squads is popular enough to replace spec ops.

        • bob

I was on the Ghosts hype train all the way. Won’t make the mistake for this game. I’m looking forward to it still but I don’t want to get too excited.

        • But what if Logan and hesh are fighting on the roof to try and stop it?

      • jordanxbrookes

        Lol why thankyou.

  • Personally I think this is great! I’m not sure how non next gen console owners feel, but I’m definitely happy.

    • Its time to upgrade my Pc or get a ps4 lol

      • Or Xbox One. I expect they’ve figured out that mess. No 720p this year.

        • jordanxbrookes

Hopefully, but either way I’ll be enjoying this game.

          • I expect I’ll hate in January or February, but for now I’ll hop on the Hype train.

          • Anonymous

I really do dislike the hype train. Not only is it annoying, but also, this time next year, everyone will be against AW.

          • Guest

Against it and hopping on the next hype train because the next will obviously be better than the last three (last three from now, not 2015).

          • I expect the Odin strike to hit the hype train next January.
Edit: Sorry for the picture. I have no idea how that got placed…

          • fires

OH MY FUCKING GOD. THIS SHIT IS SO TRUE. I mean, im an avid pokemon fan, but i really hate people who just deny it, i mean, cod may be “same game with new guns”, but pokemons mechanics go back before the 90s, like holy shit pokemon, it doesnt even copy the pokemon, it just uses the same ones every year. HYPE IS REAL, until next January where everyone will just bitch and moan about how much ghosts was better, and , TREYARCH ZOMBIES OMG LOL BEST GAME is coming the fall after that.

          • TheMostManlyMan

I don’t even like Call of Duty anymore (and on the list of reasons being the same isn’t one of them) but that picture is just beautiful!

        • | Coop X

haha its going to run 900p on xbox one and 1080p on ps4 so rileywoof get the ps4 or upgrade your pc

  • AcePhoenix007

well it’s a good thing that they’re putting PC as a priority for development too.

  • Ryumoau

So much exciting info in this press release. 😀

  • Jacky Liang

When have we been promised this before? Ghosts promised thing over thing over thing, but never ever delivered.

  • SoulTaker

I always feel bad for the PC community…

    • Atleast we have our modders

    • jordanxbrookes

Same here, except for the ignorant players. They can suffer.

      • Swaggerboy69

Yeah man, Fuck these pc elitists.

      • SoulTaker

        I agree with you there.

    • Shardlotte

Will you fanboys just shut the fuck up already?

      • Just ignore the trolls

      • The truth is painful, but it’s simply the truth.

        • NosAegis

I hardly think that’s the truth. You don’t see any COD championship games or MLG games being played on the playstation, nor will you ever.
Xbox brand is the at the top of any competitive FPS game out there

          • Ech!

Competitive play for CoD has nothing to do with what Rodrigo is saying, you twat… He talks about graphics, and then you talk about how Microsoft is a money whore and pays for all the features.

          • HenryDF

*cough* money *cough* contracts *cough* covering up a shitty console *cough*

          • exeterman2

That’s because of a little thing called MONEY. And mlg was on ps3 a couple of years back.

    • jordanxbrookes

      No, just no.

  • Michael

To a person that can’t afford a xbox one really is disappointing that its more of a “next-gen game” I mean, in ways the game is going to look better on next gen, but on ps3/360, the graphics/gameplay will be different. That’s possibly going to be the only differences. It’s going to be the same whether you play it on the 360/xbox one. Just with a little down-graded graphics.

    • SoulTaker

A different studio is working on the xbox 360 and ps3 port so Sledgehammer can worry about the big dogs and work 100% on those versions. 😀

      • Michael

What do you mean “SH can worry about the big dogs and work 100% on those versions?”

        • jordanxbrookes

He means Xbox One, PS4 and PC are Sledgehammer’s top priority for this next-gen game.

        • SoulTaker

Like jordan said the big dogs “PC,PS4, Xbox One”.
If they had to worry about PC,PS4,Xbox One,PS3,Xbox 360 and maybe Wii-U? It’d be a crazy job.

  • Adam

Any news on offline split screen?

    • Keshav Bhat

Already asking about that? Wouldn’t expect anything till after MP news starts.

    • bob

There obviously will be. It is just standard, every game has it.

      • Adam

        Ghosts didn’t.

  • jordanxbrookes

Hey guys 2 things we can confirm: There will be a Hybrid Optic and a Silencer in multiplayer.

    • k5berry

Was that in the trailer? And this is Kenneh, I just stopped being lazing and got a Disqus lol

      • jordanxbrookes

    • exeterman2

Ther was always going to be a silencer. And what kind of hybrid? Rds to acog or a sniper variant (thermal to normal for example)

      • jordanxbrookes

        It’s a Red Dot Sight-ACOG.

  • TheMostManlyMan

Is anyone else a tiny bit pleased that it’s not for the WiiU?

    • Andres Alfonso

Go away you Wii U hater

      • TheMostManlyMan

You go away, this game isn’t even for your console.

        • Andres Alfonso

No I won’t go play on your shit box one little kid

          • TheMostManlyMan

And if I want to go play on my PC which is about twice as powerful as a 360 and 2 1/2 times more powerful than the PiiU

          • Andres Alfonso

Does my face look bothered and Wii U is better than a VHS player aka Shitbox one

          • TheMostManlyMan

Who are Nintendo fanboys to talk trash about our console? At least we have a console that is next gen more than just technically! I can play next gen titles like BF4 at 60FPS could yours even run BF4 if they decided to waist a bunch of money and port it to it?

          • Andres Alfonso

Nintendo Fans are not graphics mad we play games for Fun and I am not a Fanboy I got a PS4 so there

          • TheMostManlyMan

Better, but being able to support more complex scripts and more game mechanics tends to help gameplay.

Even with the PS4 you still don’t have our wonderful dedicated servers. FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!

          • Andres Alfonso

But you have to pay for online gameing on PS4 and Xbox One and 360 why its free for Wii U

          • TheMostManlyMan

Free from paying or free from playing battlefield 4 because they didn’t want to make lower res textures and dumb down mechanics so that it could run it and a few people would play it?

Personally, I’ll gladly pay $50 every year for better connection (you know, the dedicated servers I keep mentioning that you pretend don’t exist) and full lobbies, but that’s just me.

          • fires

Its funny how you told the last guy that hes a child, yet you went low enough to call a console the PiiU. Its fucking pathetic when people like you go around fucking proclaiming the bible that is the xbone. You probably never experienced a single smash brothers experience have you? I weep for you at night, and hope you will learn to play something other than a fucking AAA shooter. oh yea, pc elite fags should burn in hell for stating the obvious.

          • TheMostManlyMan

I hate it when people resort to expletives so what they say is longer and they feel smarter.

          • TheMostManlyMan

And I have played Smash Bros with some friends before, and to be entirely honest I didn’t find it that fun at all.

I play plenty of non AAA titles, in fact later this month I’m getting The Forest which is not only not AAA but Indie.

          • fires

I know what I said, and 1 indie is not considered “plenty”, also, you will be displeased to learn that Advanced Warfare is coming to WiiU. so case closed.

          • TheMostManlyMan

A play more than 1 indie, granted several of them are also FPS, I have: Sir, You are Being Hunted, Sanctum 1 and 2 (waiting to play the second with a friends or two), Goat Simulator, Minecraft, Cube World, I own (but can’t bring myself to play any real amount of time on) Slender: The Arrival, I also own (and refuse to play) Orion: Dino Horde and the (late?) Delta Force series (self published, I think indie). I’m also waiting for the releases of: The Forest, No Man’s Sky and The Industry.

            Your argument is beyond invalid.

          • fires

ps. im sorry that smash bros doesnt have guns or first person in it. cant please everyone.

          • TheMostManlyMan

It’s not the guns or lack of first person (ok maybe a bit the lack of first person) it’s not of that it’s a platformer and basically just Nintendo’s Tekken (which I also don’t like). Xbox One has Killer Instinct for free, and you know what, I haven’t even downloaded it.

I’m not saying that I absolutely hate Nintendo, my first console was a GameCube and I still have a Wii and I love some of the Nintendo games that I have (mostly the Mario Brothers offshoot games). I even got the last Mario Party (I think) that was for the Wii because I had played the previous friends and loved it, but I’ve not even been able to bring myself to play a full hour of it.

Some of my Steam games include RealMyst, Civilization 4 and 5, the Portal games and DOTA!

Furthermore my favorite franchise is Elder Scrolls, no guns there and my all time favorite game is Morrowind. I like a bit of everything, but not enough for me to buy a WiiU.

          • bob

May I remind you that kid was calling the Xbox One a Shitbox one?

          • exeterman2

Also doesn’t have your reduce loud price tag, useless voice commands and redundant features.

Nintendo games have always been the most gameplay orientated and will continue to be the most relaxing and fun.

    • Nintendojitsu

      (expletives deleted)

      • TheMostManlyMan

    • Damac1214

Grow up Kid. Wanting some population of Gamers to not be able to play a game that they have as much right to play as you do is pathetic.

      • TheMostManlyMan

I hardly find it’s hardware equal, in fact I find it pathetic.

Grow up? I think the WiiU players are the ones that should grow up, after all they do advertise it as a kids’ console.

        Gamers capitalized, really?

        • Damac1214

Maybe if you appreciated gameplay over visuals you’d have a different opinion, but clearly there’s no getting through to you if you base your whole opinion of a console on hardware alone.

          • TheMostManlyMan

Because hardware has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not AAA companies put their game on the console, as if hardware has nothing at all to do with how complex and big a game can be. Because after all they still make GameCube games don’t they?

          • Damac1214

Because Hardware sells the consoles, right? Hardware is the reason people buy consoles, right? Everyone’s going out and comparing the stats of every console and PC out there to find the best hardware, right?

No, you don’t buy Consoles for the Hardware. You buy them for the games, a Category the Wii U is doing extremely well in on the Exclusive side.

Is it the most powerful console out there? No, it’s not. Is it likely that third party support for the console will just get more and more diminished? Yes it is. But does that make it a bad console? Does that mean the population of gamers playing on it should be ignored? No, no it does not. And if you actually think that, you’re just an ignorant child.

          • TheMostManlyMan

I was told that just a few days after MW3 was released on the (far better selling) Wii there were about 27 people on Seek and Destroy, that’s not much of a population.

Maybe it is selling well, maybe it isn’t but it doesn’t change the fact that there isn’t a big enough CoD community to justify porting it.

I hear the word ‘child’ too much from you, so you’re like 10 right?

          • Damac1214

“Maybe it is selling well, maybe it isn’t but it doesn’t change the fact
that there isn’t a big enough CoD community to justify porting it.” – So what’s your point then? Why’s it great that the console isn’t coming to Wii U?

Pretty hypocritical, by the way, to claim I must be a child for saying you’re acting like one.

          • TheMostManlyMan

I’m just saying that your excessive use of child calling is a sign that you either are a child or realize that I have a valid point.

          • Damac1214

Your avoidance of my main point seems to indicate you don’t have confidence in your own argument

          • TheMostManlyMan

What was your main point anyway?

I just meant that first comment as a little bit of lighthearted humor, I didn’t intend for it to cause a riot, chill yourself.

          • bob

Just gonna say that Rocksteady cancelled DLC on the Wii U because of how bad the sales were and it wasn’t worth producing it for the console so they refunded anyone who bought the Season Pass. Likewise with this, I’m sure if they had to make a Wii U version they would lose a lot of money. Their will probably be some spin off game somewhere down the road like they usually do.

          • exeterman2

    • Alexander Kleinwechter

Actually to be honest, i think its coming for the Wii U. They havent just announced a Wii U version yet, the exact same thing happened last year with ghosts. And i love the wii u, really great games, and ps4 and xbox one are preatty good too.

  • Kenneh

2054. now THAT’S future. Not saying anything bad bout BO2, but everyone was expecting some Halo level stuff, but it was just holograms and an invisible suit. This on the other hand is mega futuristic.

  • Da grub

What will be done about hacking?

  • Cody
  • Finally!

  • ToPBoX

I don’t know, but in Elysium, wasn’t the year based in 2154? AW is based in 2054. along with the exoskeletons and stuff, could that be some kind of coincidence? I dunno honestly, but I just noticed that.

    • TheMostManlyMan

You’re some sort of mad genius! It is clearly not a coincidence, it is in fact a conspiracy! Do you realize how many future CoDs you may have just discovered?

  • Marshall

    What about the PS2 port?

  • Zarky

I’m hoping to get an Xbox One for my birthday 😀 just in time.

    • | Coop X

      that is a horrible present

  • Rorke File

Let us first see the gameplay , and hope the graphics are better now with sound

  • instantkarma

They are obviously going after the huge PS4 market (who will never get the original Titanfall).

  • The demonyo

Don’t this will be a buy. Again they will lie their asses off promising that this time they actually have us pc players in mind and focus. Dewi servers, fov sliders and all that… aaaaaand then we get shifty p2p matchmaking and so on…
Probably gonna download a copy for consoles and pc to play single player. .. not worth giving them lying asses a dime again.
