In an interview on Stevivor, Michael Condrey has confirmed that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will support dedicated servers, but he has not confirmed exactly which platforms and providers will be running on it.

On the subject of things we need, we haven’t had any news on dedicated servers here for a bit – is there any update you could give me?

Condrey: Yeah, we’ve got some announcements coming. Yes, we will be supporting dedicated servers and there will be announcements soon on which providers and platforms. I can’t answer just yet, but you can let your community know that it’s coming.

Call of Duty: Ghosts did support dedicated servers as well, however, the game used a system of hybrid servers – it combined both listen servers and dedicated servers. We’ll keep you updated as more information comes.

    Zombies news anytime soon???

    • Michael

Yeah we’ve gotten news already… Zombie boss wave in the exo survival co op mode ?. Does that answer your question?

      • Chris

Have a feeling that the wave isn’t all of it. We might not get more with the game at launch…but the DLC will have more than just Exo Survival normal waves. They won’t sell alot of DLC without a bonus to the MP maps. I know I’m not spending $50 on just MP maps. To many other games coming out that I could spend that $ on instead. Which I will be doing if they don’t give us something more than just a “bonus wave” in one map.

    • Siftblade of Rivia

Wait till next year and there will be plenty.

      • justchill1234

how do you know that the next game will include zombies….

        • Siftblade of Rivia

Because Zombies and MP are the top two selling points of Treyarch’s games. After all the hype for zombies in AW and all the people getting upset about it, do you really think they wouldn’t include it? Would they risk getting that much hate and losing that many sales? No, it makes absolutely no sense for Treyarch not to do Zombies.

        • Because its Treyarch?

  • Marshall Bain

No way will Microsoft let Dedicated servers be on Sony platforms, they pay way too much money for that kind of edge.

    • Myke Fletcher

Ghosts has dedi’s on PS4 I am pretty sure. I look for it to be next gen and PC for dedicated servers. Not on PS3 or 360.

    • Patrick Neff

If the developers are providing the dedicated servers MS has no say in it. They can’t dictate how devs use their own network. MS dedicated servers are their own, not rented from a developer. Big difference.

      • However, if Microsoft struck a deal with Activision saying, “We’ll let you use our resources to put dedicated servers in AW, but it has to only be for our platforms”. This is not unrealistic at all. I’m really hoping this isn’t the case, but we haven’t had a real dedicated server experience in COD and I’m sure it’s the cost that prevents it. Microsoft can change that. With that being said, Activision isn’t exactly broke either, they can definitely afford the cost. We’ll see how it turns out. I wasn’t expecting this so I won’t be upset if it doesn’t come to Sony platforms, but it’d be nice if it does.

  • adqadea

PS4, Xbox One & Xbox 360 (cos microsoft).
Not for PS3 and Wii U

  • LovekillerX

Hopefully next gen consoles (especially PS4) gets dedicated servers!

  • Michael

    Doubt it’ll be on 360 ???

  • Sinful Soulz

Dedicated servers are good for people who have great quality connection, and host-based servers are better for people who depend on a host for their good connection because of their bad connection.
Edit: Most hosts have bad connection.

  • Michael

This has nothing related to the article, but for those of you that have twitter, do you get tweets from people you don’t follow on your timeline? Because I do and it’s very annoying. If anyone has this problem that I have please let me know cause I feel like I’m the only one.

    • Marshall Bain

It’s a new thing twitter is doing now, it’s here to stay. I follow a select few people, so I’ve havent gotten it yet

      • Michael

That’s fucking bullshit. Why would I wanna see random peoples tweets for? Plus, you have to keep refreshing your timeline every 2 seconds. It’s so frustrating. Now I have to looks at my followers individually to see what they post and I follow a lot of people. And it said in the article people have been wanting this?!? Why would anyone want that?

  • Mitch

Hopefully at least PC, XB1 and PS4 will have full Dedicated Server support for at least pubs.

    • Most likely not since they’re very expensive. It’ll probably only be available to lobbies that suffer connection-wise. If the lobby population has good internet, then no Dedis are needed.

      • Favorite Ape

You have no idea how expensive they are.

        • I don’t know the exact cost, but they are more expensive depending on how many players and lobbies that are being supported 24/7. In other words, dedis for Call of Duty would be A LOT more expensive over other titles due to the population differences (yes, that includes Battlefield).

          • Favorite Ape

And yet with all the games EA has on dedi’s, they’re still in business and doing fine.
Would be great if you knew what you were talking about BEFORE posting useless fanboy fiction.

          • If you think you’re so smart, then explain to me why dedicated servers for Call of Duty have not been available to all platforms from 2007 to 2013?

P.S. – Refrain from saying that Activision is greedy. I’ve heard that lame excuse way too many times.

          • Favorite Ape

You just answered your own question.
EA made over 946M last quarter alone. Those crazy expensive dedi’s are just killing them!

          • the answer I was looking for doesn’t include Activision being greedy. I just said that earlier. can you read? Obviously not. So I will ask you again. Why hasn’t call of duty received dedicated server support for all platforms from 2007-2013?

          • Favorite Ape

Can’t imagine a billion dollar game corporation being greedy. Truth hurts does it?

          • You seem to be ignoring the question because you obviously don’t have an answer for it. All you can do is rely on how you think Activision is greedy without any logical reasoning as to why.

            We’re done here. You lost.

          • Mini

LMAO kid. I like how you are just restricting the “correct” answer. For giant release like this, no dedicated servers? *facepalm
            You are a fucking joke.

          • For the millionth time, when server populations increase, the price of the dedicated servers go up. Battlefield has more dedicated servers because their server population pales in comparison to Call of Duty.

Also, the profits that Activision makes from each release go towards the company in order to pay employees, expand the business, donate to charity, and –oh yeah — MAKE ANOTHER CALL OF DUTY and other games!!! I hope you realize that it DOES cost money to make games, right?

Activision doesn’t keep that earned cash in a large swimming pool so they can dive into it. That’s something only a child would believe in.

          • Mini

lmfao kid. I like how you don’t even know the price for providing dedicated servers and you talking about costs. hahah.
If you are talking about profits, do you not realize that some people will actually not buy the game if there are no dedicated servers?
Man, if someone doesn’t know shit actually read your reply, they would be actually believe.

In case you don’t know, dedicated servers doesn’t cost that much. Also many servers in BF, for example, are rented/hosts by third parties. So basically, EA is not paying for every single server. The servers advertised shit, etc.

Seriously, go home kid. You are fucking delusional if you think providing dedicated servers is going to put a dent into Activision’s profits.

PS: Condrey said there are going to be dedicated servers. Hate to break it you, kid. hahha

          • Hmmmmmm….I can recall Ghosts supporting dedicated servers. What happened there? You still got host migrations and dashboarders.

My best guess is that AW will support dedis, but they will not support the population of all 5 gaming platforms 100% of the time. It’ll be the listen servers that will determine which lobbies need dedicated servers to improve the connection quality.

          • Mini

What does Ghosts has to do with AW? Of course they will not support for all platforms. Most likely last gen consoles are going to be left out.

          • That’s a possibility, but it’s still not going to be 100% when 3 platforms are being supported.

          • Favorite Ape

            Finally you admit:
            1. HIGHER population needs dedicated servers.
            2. Dedicated servers IMPROVE connection.
            3. Pwned

    • David Sync

Ill believe it when i see it… Mark promised dedicated servers but..where are they?

They had always said i was going to be a hybrid system between Dedi/P2P, though. I still don’t know where people got the idea that it was going to be 100% dedicated servers.

        • Xander

        • Stalker

I never encountered a host migration for as long as I was playing Ghosts. I don’t know if that has to do with my platform of choice and/or location(PS4, New Orleans).

        • Mario Rivera

I said the same thing up until the 1st DLC came out. After that it seems like they said fuck next gen and gave all the dedis to 360/ps3

    • I mean c’mon. 300,000 servers for xbox one. They bitch about they cannot do ded servers? Sounds like like that 300,000 is 3.

Again, incorrect. Everyone still has different pings and connections and whatnot. There isn’t any host advantage, true, but people still only different turf

          • I meant the host thing.

          • Favorite Ape

Incorrect. Dedicated server manage players connections to bring them in line with each other. Listen servers do nothing to equalize this.

      • Primey_

Nope. He’s never said anything about PC

  • Prince Of The City.

Almost postitive it’s going to XB1 only, for various reasons. Firstly because microsoft has all kinds of exclusive deals with Activision, second, because MS is going to want people to upgrade from 360 to XB1, third, it would be too expensive to provide for more than one console.. But that is all in the case that there are ACTUALLY dedicated servers.. Not the half-ass servers IW promised us for Ghosts and never delivered on.. Or cloud servers which are a complete joke. I guess we’ll see what happens when the game comes out. Just be sure to take this news with a grain of salt.

    • Mitch

Your reasons seem kind of invalid IMO since for Ghosts XB1 also wasn’t the only platform that got ‘dedicated servers’.

      • Prince Of The City.

They weren’t actual dedicated servers though. Look into it.

        • Mitch

I know, that’s why I said ‘dedicated servers’.

    • Patrick Neff

Too expensive to be used for more than one console is a joke to be honest. Other games that aren’t as successful as CoD have ran dedicated servers on both PS3 and 360. Activision and their devs know they need to do something to appeal to the players. They lost a lot of ground with Ghosts, they need to step it up.

      • Prince Of The City.

Yea, not as successful which means less players & less servers. What does that statement prove?ol

        • Patrick Neff

Ummm less funding to establish something such as dedicated servers? Is it really that hard to grasp that concept? And bringing that up, more players equals what? More revenue. The more games that sell the more money they make. Your point makes absolutely zero sense.

          • Faolan

No, His point makes a s**t ton of sense. Less players = less servers to buy and maintain for varies consoles. The more players you have = more servers and more maintence. Servers dont run by them selves. They need to be updated, repaired, replaced and maintaned. Thats not easy or cheap to do. It takes a lot of mony to maintain a server. A game like Titanfall for example, Which I believe has dedicated servers for XB1. Titanfall has a fairly good gamer base. Somwhere around 100,000 players. While COD has 100x that number. COD has 1,000,000 players+. To maintain servers for a game like COD will cost more then servers for Titanfall. Its not a easy task to do. Thats why COD dosn’t have them. There expensive. And for the mass players its just to much money. For a smaller player base its easyier to do because there is less players per server. Copared to a high player count game like COD which has 500,000+ at one time.

          • tbpotn

I’m rather confused here. If Cod has 10 times more players, they need 10 times more servers/staff/etc, which means roughly 10 times the costs. However, 10 times more players, means 10 times the income. So if we stop there, it would relatively be equally expensive. However, Cod has goodf connections with Microsoft, is an established name and buys a big chunk of servers, lowering the average cost per server. Whatever the reason is Cod doesn’t have dedicated servers yet, money isn’t it i think.

          • mark

It wouldnt be equally expensive. It would be 10 times more expensive and even more than that. 10x more players would mean 10x more servers. That also means it would cost 10x as much upkeep on a monthly basis whereas the profit made from sales only happens once. So the margins are really different so you cant really multiply everything by 10 and get an accurate answer. Bottom line is its a huge chunk of money compared to other prices other games would have to pay and even though cod makes more profit that doesnt mean they have more money to blow. They have higher promotion cost and production costs as well. If they were to spend 10x more on servers just because they made 10x more profit than those other games, than the 10x more profit would be pointless. Its just a big chunk of money that would go bye bye in their perspective.

          • Bdotson1984

It makes no sense. Each developer wants its game to be the next big thing… Not one them shoot for mediocrity and say our game will suck and we won’t have anyone play it, so yeah let’s purchase dedis

          • Elikenui

Ummm.. they have more players because they sell way more games. When they sell more games they make more money. It actually gets cheaper per player the more players you have because of the economics of scale.

    • MrKnowsItAll

Dedicated servers Can be hosted by anyone. It just requries a PC.

    • Dean Cowan

They had dedies on all next-gen consoles for ghosts. The connectivity of ghosts has gotten worse, so they must be transferring them over

    • Bdotson1984

I look for it to be next gen PS4 and XB1, and PC.. I think the 360 and PS3 gets left behind

  • Rorke File

All next gen and pc and x360 of course .

  • These amazin’ news are steamrollin’ past us! This is absolutely awesome news mates 😀

  • jordanxbrookes

That’s what they said with Ghosts. It felt like Dedicated Servers on Xbox One for the first 3 months, then I started to get a lot of host migrations afterwards up until now. Hope SHG stay true to what they say.

    • Mitch

On PS4 I had like 1 or 2 host migrations in the whole year in pubs, but host migrations were quite frequent in Extinction and Squads.

    • Michael

I don’t believe it one bit but SH acts differently then IW so we’ll have to wait as see. I just hope it comes to 360 but I doubt it.

      • Stealth_Valtsu

I don’t want to ruin your hope but I think its not gonna come to Xbox 360 cause M$ wants you to upgrade to Xbone. And yeah SH is nothing like IW

        • Michael

Well a majority of people are still on last gen (360). So idk man, maybe it’s a possibility but again I highly doubt it.

    • Daniel

Ghosts had the best connection ever

      • Stealth_Valtsu

an interesting fact! You get a lot of down votes right now

  • Before people begin to celebrate, let’s discuss dedicated servers in Call of Duty:

    1. You will NOT have 100% dedicated server support. The only time your lobby will have dedicated servers is if the connections are terrible and unstable.

    2. The reason why 100% dedicated servers for all platforms is not possible is due to the tremendous cost. Activision may earn a lot of cash for a Call of Duty release, but those funds go towards making another Call of Duty, paying the employees, expanding the business, and more.

    3. Despite listing the reasons why, people are not going to understand the concept above and will continue to rant like little children by crying until they get what they want.

    • Mitch

Yeah, personally I’m expecting the same exact system as Ghosts, maybe excluding PS3 and XB360.

    • Invert

They very well may have an agreement to use azure at little or no cost. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t the case with all the deals they have with MS. Battlefield has pure dedicated servers on 5 platforms, why can’t cod?

      • The amount of players to support with dedicated servers determines the cost. Call of Duty has a much higher population density over Battlefield.

        • kcvaliant

And since COD has more players buying the games and spending money on DLC they should be able to afford it. Your reason on why Battlefield can do it actually goes against your premise.

I hope they get this right, but I have a feeling they will not. Dedicated servers do not cost anything in the grand scheme of things. I used to own one for gaming. Hell, if they do it right I would own one again. They need to allow the gamers to purchase their own servers in their cities to play on. Not preset servers just on the coasts. This would allow the gamers full choice on where they want to play, and make a little extra on fee from hosting a dedicated server for their game.

They also need go get rid of host disadvantage and go back to host advantage, this will stop people dashboarding out or turning off their console mid game.

          • Here’s the cycle of arguments that I seem to notice repeating over and over again.

            1. I’ll Say: Call of Duty doesn’t have dedicated servers 100% of the time due to the high player population, REGARDLESS of how much profit is made per release.

            2. Everyone replies with: Battlefield has dedicated servers, so why can’t Call of Duty have them?

When number 2 is mentioned, I go back to my number 1 statement and it will repeat forever.

          • clocinnorcal

I’m sorry, number 2 is a completely valid argument. Dedicated servers have been around for ever. Yes they can be expensive to general population but not investing in dedicated servers as other big name game developers have done is pretty short sighted. Also, you keep insinuating that ALL dedicated server costs are on the game developer. This is not how dedi’s generally work. The vast majority of dedicated servers are rented by either individuals or communities.

          • kcvaliant

So basically you are just trying to cycle the argument without backing it?

Your whole premise is they have more players so they cannot afford it?

But when it is shown they are making more money that would balance it out like all the other games. Then it is does not matter profit.

So you are saying they do not care, they want the extra money? Just say that. That is all you have to say, they want to be extra greedy. That is the premise you are passing.

    • Steve Roberts

holy shit the same retard Activison fanboys are on here too.. lmao

    • Favorite Ape

      Get off your knees already.
      1. You have no clue what they will do until they announce it.
      2. You have no clue about the “tremendous” amount of money it takes to use dedicated servers.
      3. You think battlefield is the only game ea has on dedi’s?
      4. The only one ranting like a child is you about keeping the subpar listen server garbage.
      5. Do you work at Activision corporate? If not, once again your clueless on what they spend their money on.

    • Stealth_Valtsu

Also I think if M$ pays enough they will leave only XB1 and I also don’t think it will be on xbox 360 cause M$ wants Xbox users to upgrade.

You’d think it would be safe to assume at least XB1 and PS4 will have dedicated servers. Something seems fishy that they took this long to “announce” it though.

Dedicated servers might be good but people fail to realize that these dedicated servers aren’t only a good thing but they have also bad things.

    • Like? Dedicated Servers means just that dedicated servers. Anything above and beyond is up to the developer to offer and allow.

    • Kobrah

  • Daniel

If they are revealing this close to launch it means only 5% of the servers will be dedicated

  • Stealth_Valtsu

Let me guess, they left PS4 away from that list. -.-

  • Slothigans

I know I’ll get shit for it, but can someone tell me exactly what dedicated servers are? I hear it all the time.

    • M.W.P.

Dedicated servers prevent lag for the most part. You’re playing on servers bought by the dev/publisher so you get the best online experience. Most games run on P2P (Peer 2 Peer) meaning the person with the best connection will be the host.

      • Slothigans

It all makes sense now. Thanks dude (:

      • Slothigans

If that’s the case would that mean you’d be able to browse through servers and join a game? Like in counter strike?

        • jooker-jr

Yeah, but it’s up to SHG to allow this.

        • They could still force matchmaking and not offer a server browser similar to Titanfall.

        • M.W.P.

that depends on the dev team actually. BF’s Dice team allows users to search diff servers. So it’s all up to them. The reason most FPS games dont use DS is because of the high cost to have them ongoing.

          • WirlWind

Simple solution. Open it up to player rented servers.

They only have to pay a ton for them if they’re retarded and try to lock them down to the point where they barely meet the original idea of what a dedicated server is…

    • Invert

Dedicated servers don’t really prevent lag, (are they more stable, hopefully!) The biggest benefit for dedis is that nobody has host advantage, levels the playing field a bit. Also should cut down on the cheating, especially lag switches.

  • These are the same servers bo2 and ghosts (partiality) had, not the “true” servers like MW1 or WaW…

  • KuuGeeL

Worst news I have ever heard there are no servers in where I live, im from dubai and in bf4 I have to join European server which I get 2,3 bars. P2P works 100% well, there is allot of players in my region and have a fast connection. damn it! I wish there will be two options P2P and dedicated servers.

  • J4MES

Dedicated servers are a minimum requirement for games like these especially with a high-grossing brand like COD. They really do need to convey more detailed information soon instead of skirting around the issue. Condrey and Schofield don’t seem the most technically ITK people but consumer relations at such a vital stage on release needs to improve to drive those last-ditch sales.

  • Good,
Just dont tell anybody. So theres no HACKERS Lets keep the new CALL OF DUTY’s HACKER FREE
HACKERS only hack and MODERS ONLY MOD BECAUSE THEY TRULY are NOT good at the games they play

    • Samuel

Advanced Warfare is made on the old COD code so this game will probably be hacked one day one. The first ever MW3 video uploaded by the community was a hacking advertisement and I remember the match on BO2 on Yemen where it was hacked a week before release.

Activsion never bother with any hack preventions because they have our money and they couldn’t care less.

  • Eaz Jmilly

17 more days and with more good news, their will be “Dedicated Servers”. Leggo

  • jooker-jr

    And im like :

    ahh – #excited #omg

Btw: I think DS will be on current gen and pc only.

  • meow

we better get at least 64 tick servers for PC or better, rentable

    • Yeah I don’t see that happening. Activision no longer cares about PC money.

      • meow

then rentable would be cheaper in the first place :/

  • I was just asking about this in the other article. Funny how they just now mentioned it.

  • Do not get your high hopes up. We was supposed to in blops 2 as well in ghosts. So just wait it out.

  • 111AlaN111

I just see MS giving dedicated servers, but I don’t believe that there will be dedicated servers for PS4 and PC anytime soon.

Probably there’s a paid subscription on PC to have access to the servers, but I don’t believe of Sony giving dedicated servers away.

Alright guys quick question, what exactly are dedicated servers??

  • Kobrah

Hopefully there will be dedis in Australia *crosses fingers* (but know deep down probably not) *begins to cry*

  • Ryumoau

really hope PS4 is one of those platforms.

  • Favorite Ape

Same old garbage. Just a sales pitch to help poor sales.

    • jooker-jr

      u mad bro ?

      • Favorite Ape

Sounds like your mad bro. Glad you piped in your useless comment here though.

  • reamerb .

    It better be ps4.

  • jimmy

ps4 and xbox one maybe pc i imagine

  • Emre

few months later the dedicated servers will be gone.
these scummy jews are using you.

  • Bdotson1984

I sure hope XB1 gets full dedicated servers. I’m sure if any platform did, it would be XBOX. This has been a long time coming. The lag compensation first introduced in MW3 made the game nearly unplayable for me. BF4 runs so smooth in comparison. This is the first COD I have preordered since MW3

    • mountkarma

If this is the 1st COD game you’ve pre-ordered since MW3 then that isn’t saying much. As far as COD games go MW3 isnt even close to the top of the list of good ones.

      • Bdotson1984

I’ve played them all. I started on COD4, got the following three in the series on launch day. But I couldn’t stand the last two. Hope this one rejuvenates the series for me

        • mountkarma

Gotcha. How have you played them all if you started with COD4? Did you go back to the original COD, United Offensive or COD2?

          • Bdotson1984

            I didn’t play those online

  • Favorite Ape

Still nothing about dedicated servers? This is smelling like ghosts all over again. Support? Like ghosts is supported? No go for me until I hear more than that.
Not another game with this laggy “listen server” garbage.

  • kw

If they were smart, they would stay a damn site away from any functionality Ghosts had. That game has the worst servers in recent history.

  • BHCMax

I smell PR bullshit.. why have NO GSP’s listed AW servers as being available to rent yet? there are only 6 days till launch, clans will want to order and set up before launch.
and in my 60 odd hours of playing those ghosts servers? never, its been p2p all the way.

  • Richard Ursch

Dedicated servers that are garbage and give everyone a 1 bar in every match I’ve played so far.

  • xHDx

Neither of them ahve used dedicated servers at all. Anyone with a low sense of Networking can tell. It’s ridiculous.

  • nr23

The MP is the most unfair ive ever experienced with any cod exept ghosts. the lag is like no other right now. shooting, damage, nothing is making sense online.

  • MajorKillerAU

i dont know why they just dont have dedicated servers in there games anymore, alot of the plays are saying that it is because they dont want to pay for it but it is the clans that pay for it, my clan has 2 dedicated servers in BF4 and BF3 and even 2 in BC2, this allows us to all play on a level playing field, but when anyone from overseas joins a cod game joins now we suffer and they have a low ping and we have a high ping like in ghosts and all the ones below, i have stopped buying cod games because they are too lazy to do this. the scores are stored on there server but wont allow the clans to have a dedicated servers in each country to do this, i know of 3 clans in australia that wont buy advance warfare because are too lazy to do it,

my clan pays $1 per player per game to have a server and we have 6 servers, 3 32 player and a 16 and 2 64, we pay this not EA, and not Activision, maybe they should change there name to Novision as there games sales are declining.

  • Luis

So… any news on those dedicated servers?

  • Favorite Ape

    Update on the dedicated servers!
    There are none.
