Activision announced that Call of Duty: WWII sales have surpassed over $500 million during the first three days of launch, beating out highly anticipated Thor: Raganork and Wonder Women’s opening weekend sales.

Activision also announced that Call of Duty: WWII set a new record on the PS4 Store: Call of Duty: WWII is the best-selling digital full game by units sold on its first day of availability on PS4 store ever. Activision has also stated that Call of Duty: WWII has sold more than 2 times the amount of copies at launch compared to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s launch last year.

Call of Duty: WWII launch has resulted in the “highest total connected users on current generation consoles and PC in Call of Duty history,” Activision says.

Activision CEO says that the teams at SHG are committed to supporting the community with ‘continuous improvements and new content.’

“We challenged our players to get their squads back together and they answered the call, with the highest number of players we’ve ever seen on current gen consoles and PC,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision. “Call of Duty: WWII returns the franchise to its roots and the results are incredible, selling twice as many units in its opening weekend as last year, and setting the day one record for full-game downloads on PlayStation 4. Our $500 million opening weekend was not only bigger than Thor: Ragnarok’s, it was bigger than the opening weekends of both Thor and Wonder Woman combined. And we’re committed to supporting the community with continuous improvements and new content.”

Activision runs a smart business model. Make a shitty game one year, then hype up the next game for maximum profit.

      Just like your recycled comment

More like make 5 shitty games then hype up the next one.

      • Good7Games

Don’t agree with that. You know that the first game in that 5 shitty years was BO2. That wasn’t what I call a shitty game. Ghosts was not really bad, but we all expected a MW3 kind of game. AW was revolutionary, but the game was ruined by people who abused the movement system (and the BAL and ASM1). BO3: Made the advanced movement less abusive, and the addition of Specialists gave us more variety than ever. IW felt a bit like a copy of BO3, and the fact that the multiplayer wasn’t even close to finished, made it feel even worse. But I enjoyed the game. So only the last one of these 5 was shitty.

Black Ops 2 was great, wtf are you talking about?

          • Good7Games

You clearly haven’t read it right….

“You know that the first game in that 5 shitty years was BO2. That wasn’t what I call a shitty game.”

wasn’t, or WAS NOT. I said that BO2 was everything except a shitty game. Just read it good or just don’t reply.

          • he said bo2 is the first game in the 5 year cycle and it isn’t a shitty game

        • Christopher Loughrey

BO2 was pretty shitty with bad maps, horrible zombies, and terrible hit detection. BO3 was better despite the annoying boosting. Ghosts was the last solid game

          • Mario Porfírio Souza

U have poop in the brain lol. Ghosts was the worst cod of all time

          • Good7Games

IW came pretty close though…incomplete multiplayer, NV4 Flatline the whole time.

    New content through supply drops

Comparing a video game release to a movie release? Im sure if the new Thor movie was $60 it would outsell WW2…

    • Pat

To go see the new Thor movie, is cheaper than to buy the new CoD game. You are aware of this right? To outsell a movie like Thor is pretty huge, considering its fanbase size and the number of movie goers in general.

      • Bryan Vargas

Thats what Im saying. Call of duty made more money but Thor sold more tickets than COD sold copies

      • ErebosGamingHD

If you weigh it up most people buy popcorn, sweets, drinks etc so your probably looking at $30-$40 for a trip to see a blockbuster movie as impressive as the sales figures are they will be easily smashed by idiots spending hundreds trying to aquire the new weapons or variants when they are added to supply drops.

But the servers make it seem like they only sold 50 cents

  • JonKelly

Comparing a game sales with movie sales? Are the Thor tickets $60 dollars? Did CoD sell more copies than Thor tickets? All this is marketing fluff.

  • Slood2

Why did they compare game sales to movie sales?

  • Jeffrey Dahmer

    “RIP COD”

  • The Gaming Revolution

“Yes, that’s right. Our game that costs over quadruple the price of a movie ticket happened to make more money than the movies.” I get that they were successful, but since when is it appropriate to compare yourself to a completely unrelated media when boasting sales? I feel like they’re just using power stats to entice all the investors that left after infinite warfare

  • Dodger HD

I am happy they are going to be more involved, I think Sledgehammer are my new favourite dev team !

  • david slayer

And they still act like getting real dedicated servers is a HUGE hassle. classic activi$ion.
