Sledgehammer has posted a new blog post detailing what they’re currently working on for Call of Duty: WWII.

Their new post includes an update on online connectivity, dedicated servers, Headquarters, game disconnects, and PC title update.

They plan to issue a update on PS4 and Xbox One later tonight to address the “Disconnected from Server” error.

  • Online Connectivity – While our previous Game Update which released early Friday solved several critical needs, unfortunately it also had an adverse effect on server performance. As a result, we moved to P2P (listen) servers. Overall, the game is stable, however we know that P2P brings things like Host Migrations and other issues that make for inconsistent gameplay experiences. Our objective to return to dedicated servers is our highest priority.
  • Dedicated Servers – This weekend we rolled out various test solutions in limited markets in order to fully analyze real-world conditions without risking disruption. This level of data and diagnostics is helping us work toward a permanent solution as quickly as possible. We’ve begun to test dedicated servers today in the US. We’ll watch this test closely, and once we analyze the results we’ll look to expand.
  • Game Disconnects From Server – After much testing, our engineering teams identified the root cause of this issue, which can also result in lost stats and post match lobby freezes. Later tonight, we plan to deploy a patch across both consoles worldwide. We’ll monitor the results, and keep everyone updated.
  • Headquarters – As we focus on the return to dedicated servers as our highest priority, we will continue to utilize a solo-HQ experience. Players can still invite friends, which we encourage everyone to try. But we get it, HQ is best enjoyed with a thriving, fully populated social community interacting together. So hang in there while we address the most pressing concerns first.
  • We also want to reinforce our commitment to PC fans. We have the next PC Title Update ready to go, but we believe we need to work through the issues noted above first – many of which also affect PC players. For this reason, we’ll wait a bit longer before deploying the patch to the PC in order to ensure everything is the way it needs to be first.


  • Big Boss

    raise the search and destroy to 6 rounds, the team death match to 100 and the domination to 250 or 300 because the games are very short.

      I’d rather not have drawn out matches in CoD. Sorta takes away from its original appeal.

          That was a much different CoD than what we’ve been getting for the past 10 years. Maybe original wasn’t a good term for me to use, but the point still stands.

          • I get what you are saying. Sadly (IMO) this is how much of the community feels today. They don’t like long matches and they don’t like to wait to respawn. Minimal downtime. That’s why CTF and S&D are disliked so much more.

            The S&D player base is still quite big in comparison to CTF, as the respawn delay effects the speed of the game in CTF. Even if you die early on in a S&D game, the round would be over fairly quickly provided no one camped. COD is about fast paced games, I mean even the rounds in the War gametype are fairly quick averaging 7-10mins (for me anyway). Don’t get me wrong, i don’t mind long games but, i don’t think BF’s 30+ minute games would fits the COD play style.

          I remember custom map servers in UO running S&D with like a 5 to 6 minute timer. Very slow paced but made you take your time and be methodical.

        • I wish I could’ve experienced this. That’s the only thing that I love about BF over CoD, the huge scale maps and battles. Sometimes CoD games are over so damn fast

    As much as I am relieved to hear that they’re on the throes of fixing the game’s coding issues, how about a patch that swaps out Point du Hoc, USS Texas, and Gustav Cannon for the ones that were supposed to be in the actual game? Or maybe that’s some stupid way to get people to buy map packs, release all the worst maps with the game.

      Nah man, I honestly LOVE Point du Hoc. I used to stay on the outside and run and gun, now I love any weapon/anywhere with that map.

      The other 2 maps that you listed, yeah not so much love for them…

        Point du Hoc is the pinnacle of lazy map design. It’s a big racetrack with a smaller racetrack inside it. The spawns are impossible to predict and I have to put my head on a swivel whenever I’m not running around using Mountain on my classes.

          For me, it’s the best WWII vibe map, and honestly it’s the map that I do well on. My highest streaks come the most from that map.

          IMO It’s a smooth boots on ground map. It’s not too open, and it’s not too cramped with corner campers either. Beautiful WWII trench settings in the middle.

          Point du Hoc and London Docks, I could play all day with some Flac Tower in there as well… *shrugs*

            I can’t say that I’ve enjoyed any of the maps in WW2. The best maps in the game are Ardennes Forest and Saint Marie du Mont. Even then, they’re also typical to the map design of WW2, where people end up rushing to the “hot zone.” Also, there’s the blatant spawntrapping issues.

          • Saint Marie du Mont and London Docks are my favourites. I’d like to say Caranten but I’ve only played it once because they won’t put it in the regular rotation :/

            On Ardennes Forest, if you situated yourself on the central point of the map, left of the cabin, behind the truck just before the bridge, you could spawntrap people spawning on the other side of bridge. I don’t know how bad this spawntrap is in Dom but, this can be achieved in TDM fairly quickly and it ruins the game. For this reason, Ardennes Forest is probably my least favourite map in the game. You shouldn’t be able to get spawntrapped in TDM in my point of view. Bo3 probably had the worst TDM spawntraps.

          Point du hoc spawn points are very predictable, i die a lot of times because is someone of other team in the spawn and if the spawn points were predictable, this is a good thing. Predictable spawn points is bad for the game.

          I dont understand too. When they build good maps for true sniping, they complain. To me is better than using quick scoping in closed maps.

        • I don’t get it either. You have Hijacked with bottlenecks on the very limited lanes or USS Texas with pathways all over and lots of verticality and people hate it. It’s just weird.

          • Yeah, I don’t get it. I think CoD must be the only franchise where the fanbase spend all their time whining that things are too repetitive, then complain that things are too different when they change.

            A better example of limited lanes would be Wet Work from CoD4. Maybe, people were expecting the maps to more like carrier from Bo2.

          • Going “back to it’s roots” – USS Texas is much closer to Ship from the first COD/CODUO with a little less verticality.

          Gustav Cannon feels like an advanced warfare map because of the verticality and it’s only good for snipers even assault rifles aren’t good on that map. USS Texas everyone camps in the back of their spawn on top in the head glitch areas

          • I get that, I like the verticality though, it shakes things up a bit for me. Agreed on the other things, especially USS Texas camping, but I try to find a way round it and usually have some fairly good games

    • Equip smoke? It’s not that hard to get around the snipers. These maps have so many excellent pathways to them.

        Smokes don’t do anything for you on Gustav Cannon. They only give snipers an idea of where you’re going.

        • You are using smoke wrong. Smoke as close to them as possible – that gives you room to move.

        its a solid map, something like the mp40 / kar98 with rifleman on the mountain class is pretty solid (especially with the no movement sound with something like S mines to cover your arse)

  • It really is a shame this game is getting ruthlessly trashed by the community. I mean I’m not surprised because SHG have screwed up a lot of things and the CoD community is cancerous as hell but I feel like the errors and flaws are distracting from what could be a great game with some great ideas. Ignoring tech errors I’d say it DEFINITELY needs more maps and an easier character customisation system, but it has a lot of potential.

    All positivity aside if they don’t fix that fucking disconnection error and stop the “win one of each game” special order from ending I’ll fucking destroy them with fire.

    • I agree there is some potential here but it’s getting trashed with very good reason! This launch has been pathetic. Absolutely not acceptable in today’s world of video games. Activision have the analytics and know exactly how many people are going to purchase the game & have the facilities to cope with the number of people that did buy the game. For a game to be launched in the state that WW2 was launched in was totally not acceptable. If it wasn’t ready, then delay the launch!

      • Well said, they should’ve given it a while longer to make sure everything was ironed out before launch. Thankfully with the budget/reputation of CoD they will fix it at least, rather than leaving it to fester like some developers do, I just hope it doesn’t take them too long. I spent £80 on the pro edition, thinking about it I want some kind of compensation for how badly it’s gone so far because that’s a lot of money for a broken game.

    The problems are still there, last night game crashed twice post game and at least 2 guys using the infinite flamethrower glitch, 1 loser in war was able to snipe through a wall and actually see through it also, it’s just a bit surprising that it isn’t play tested more given the development time.

    I think the gameplay is excellent and a welcome change from all the flying gimps in MW. I play a fair bit of split screen multiplayer with my bro and this is the only thing I think they need to seriously work on. The UI is not intuitive at all and at the moment you can’t both sort out supply drops and other bits unless you’re signed in as the main host?

    Get that sorted and I think it’ll be a winner.
