6 games like Hogwarts Legacy you need to play
Hogwarts Legacy is a mammoth release no matter how you look at it, but if you’re too excited to wait, then here are six games like Hogwarts Legacy that you absolutely need to play.
Following a hot 2022 for gaming, Hogwarts Legacy is one of the big AAA titles set to make 2023 another seismic year for the gaming industry.
The Harry Potter franchise has been consistently popular for over 20 years and its various books, films, and games have garnered a huge fanbase. So it’s only right that Hogwarts Legacy finally brings the franchise to life like never before.
If the thought of being placed into your favorite house and creating your own wizard or witch is making you excited, then here are six games like Hogwarts Legacy you can play to tingle your tastebuds.
LEGO Harry Potter
Where else better to start with games like Hogwarts Legacy than to absorb Harry Potter in a slightly less serious, yet equally engaging format? The LEGO Harry Potter games continue to be made and people keep buying them, so if you haven’t experienced them yet, you probably should.
The series still retains the brand’s classic traits that fans love like Hogwarts classes and splices this with easy-to-enjoy platforming and collect-a-thon elements.
The Elder Scrolls
Whether it’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or The Elder Scrolls: Online, Bethesda’s RPG series revolves around magic, gripping stories, and embarking on fantastical quests – as you’ll do in Hogwarts Legacy.
We’d lean toward Skyrim as it’s readily available on about 400 different platforms and with how long it’s been out, you can dive into it for cheap and see why gamers have raved about the title for years.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Dragon Age Inquisition does have some things in common with The Elder Scrolls, and Hogwarts Legacy, but Bioware goes above and beyond when it comes to its meticulously crafted narrative through its character creation tools, dialog wheels that affect character relationships, and much more.
On top of all of this, the combat and magic system is quite in-depth and has a bunch of different controls and commands to give you freedom in this department.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
It might take a considerable effort from the team at Avalanche Software to get Hogwarts Legacy to reach the acclaimed heights of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. One of the most celebrated RPG games of all time, CD Projekt Red’s RPG encompasses all aspects of the genre.
It will take you a solid 100-200 hours to see everything that The Witcher 3 has to offer, but the storytelling, the intuitive physical and magical combat, and so much more make the game a must-play.
Persona 4
You could probably choose several entries in the Persona JRPG franchise, but Persona 4 aptly personifies the qualities that Hogwarts Legacy enthusiasts may be looking for in an alternative.
Also set in a school with students coming of age, it embraces darker themes, as the later Harry Potter books/films do, and you grow attached to the characters throughout the game. The game’s persona mechanic is simply fascinating and complements Persona’s mysterious and magical world.
Elden Ring
Hogwarts Legacy is attempting to become a GOTY contender for 2023, something Elden Ring achieved in 2022 quite comfortably. Considered to be FromSoftware’s magnum opus, Elden Ring is a masterclass in gameplay, sound, presentation, and combat.
Now, if you’re unaware, Elden Ring is slightly more difficult than most games, and that’s putting it nicely. However, the pay-off is worth it and there’s a deep RPG experience tucked away between the myriad of bosses wanting to hurt you.
