(7) NEW WEAPONS spotted: M27, MTAR, HAMR, XPR-50, KSG, Crossbow, Five-seveN
Words can not describe how happy I am to see the H&K M27 in Black Ops 2. @RnKCOOKSTAR alerted us to some new guns that have been spotted in some of the new Black Ops 2 footage going around. We’re not sure if these are the final weapons or not, but if they are then we’re a lot happier now with Black Ops 2 weapons selection.
The KSG and Crossbow have been seen in previous magazine screenshots but were not playable at Gamescom during the multiplayer reveal, These new images pretty much confirm they’re in multiplayer now.
Treyarch sure did their homework when it came to selecting future weapon tech. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
M27
The M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) is the name given to a lightweight, magazine-fed 5.56mm weapon sought by the United States Marine Corps, which is intended to enhance the automatic rifleman’s maneuverability and displacement speed. The Marine Corps is planning to purchase 4,476 IARs to replace 2,000 M249 light machine guns currently employed by automatic riflemen within Infantry and Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalions. Approximately 8,000–10,000 M249s will remain in service at the company level to be used at the discretion of company commanders.
MTAR
The TAR-21 (or simply Tavor) is an Israeli bullpup assault rifle chambered for 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition with a selective fire system, selecting between semi-automatic mode and full automatic fire mode. It is named after Mount Tavor, while “TAR-21” stands for “Tavor Assault Rifle – 21st Century”. It is the standard issued weapon of the Israeli infantry. The MTAR-21 (Micro Tavor) was recently selected as the future assault rifle of the Israeli Defense Forces, and some infantry division are being issued with the rifle, replacing the bigger and standard TAR-21.
HAMR
In 2008, a variant of the FN SCAR—the Heat Adaptive Modular Rifle (HAMR)—was one of four finalist rifles for the Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) competition. The IAR was a United States Marine Corps requirement for a lightweight automatic rifle for squad automatic rifle use. The FN entry was different from existing SCAR versions in that it combined closed bolt operation (fires from bolt forward/chambered cartridge) with open bolt operation (fires from bolt to the rear, no chambered cartridge), switching automatically from closed to open bolt as the weapon’s barrel heats up during firing. There have been previous firearms with mixed open/closed bolt operation, but the automatic temperature-based operating mode switch is an innovation.
XPR-50
We’re at a loss as to which rifle this is. If you guys know then please leave a description in the comments below. As for now, we think it stands for “Experimental Pulse Rifle 50 Caliber”. But thats just a guess..
KSG
The Kel-Tec KSG is a bullpup 12-gauge pump action shotgun designed by Kel-Tec. It has two tube magazines which the user of the gun can switch between manually. The Kel-Tec KSG shotgun is a manually operated, pump (slide) action weapon. Barrel locking is achieved by a swinging wedge, located inside the top of the bolt, which engages the barrel extension. The sliding forend is connected to the bolt by dual operating bars. The ammunition feed is from two independent tubular magazines, located below the barrel.
Crossbow
In the United States, SAA International Ltd manufacture a 150 ft·lb crossbow-launched version of the U.S. Army type classified Launched Grappel Hook (LGH), amongst other mine countermeasure solutions designed for the middle-eastern theatre. It has been successfully evaluated in Cambodia and Bosnia. It is used to probe for and detonate tripwire initiated mines and booby traps at up to 50 meters.
Five-seveN
The Five-seven pistol was developed in conjunction with the FN P90 personal defense weapon and the FN 5.7×28mm cartridge. The P90 was introduced in 1990, and the Five-seven was introduced in 1998 as a pistol using the same 5.7×28mm ammunition.
