A strange bug is killing players midair in Black Ops Cold War

Fireteam is adding lots of new excitement to CoD, but a strange bug is killing players in midair in Black Ops Cold War’s innovative mode.

Fireteam is one of the hot new modes added to this year’s Call of Duty game. But a peculiar bug has been discovered that appears to be killing players in midair before they get anywhere near the ground in Black Ops Cold War.

Since CoD experimented with Battle Royale in Black Ops 4, there’s definitely been a tonal shift towards larger modes and maps in Call of Duty games. In recent years we’ve seen Warzone, large-scale Ground War, and this year we have the new Fireteam mode.

Treyarch‘s Dirty Bomb mode sees 10 teams of four competing against each other across a huge map to accumulate uranium, deposit the stuff, and detonate bombs. But in order for players to gather uranium, they actually need to land first – something that is proving difficult for some.

Mid-air mayhem

Similar to Battle Royale, Fireteam requires the player to drop from the sky and land at a destination of their choosing. Naturally, the sky is occupied by 40 flying soldiers ready to tear each other apart.

However, a video posted by DrKershaw on Reddit has shown that it might be pure luck if you even make it to terra firma. The beginning of the clip seems innocuous enough with our player hurtling towards the earth at great speed…until he’s not.

A death animation occurs and if you watch closely, the outline of another player can briefly be seen in DrKershaw’s avatar before this takes place. A glance over at the killfeed and you see that it goes down as suicide.

Chekc out the video below.

Another user in the comments section mentions that something similar has happened to them numerous times too. It definitely seems like a glitch as this would be a questionable mechanic to include in the mode.

Given how many players there and how much airspace there is, it makes sense that this issue doesn’t appear to be widespread. But now that there’s some awareness, we will get to see if Treyarch is troubled by this and if it is in fact a glitch at all.

Black Ops Cold War dev responds to thermal scope glitch

A glitch causing Black Ops Cold War’s thermal scopes’ ‘batteries to die’ has been addressed by Treyarch’s Community Manager.

A Black Ops Cold War glitch that turned the thermal optic into a regular scope has been addressed by a developer, with a fix planned for a future major update.

Black Ops Cold War had a shaky start, with many bugs and glitches affecting the game. It’s understandable, as BOCW, along with many other video games, has been developed during a global pandemic.

This doesn’t make it any less frustrating for players, and Treyarch has been hard at work addressing these issues. You can keep an eye on all known issues and their status on Activision’s official Trello Board.

A new glitch recently popped up, where the thermal scope lost its effect, so a Treyarch developer responded, revealing a fix is in the works.

Black Ops Cold War glitched thermal scope

A Black Ops Cold War player uploaded a video to Reddit where it appears the battery in their thermal scope had died. The effect was gone, but the reticle appeared the same, confirming that this is a broken thermal scope.

As another Reddit user pointed out, while the thermal optic failed, they were in the radius of a Jammer. This wasn’t the problem though, as the effect remained well after they had left the area, and persisted until they died.

Thermal scopes are great for spotting far off enemies, so it must have been frustrating for this special scope to lose its effect.

Treyarch’s Community Manager Josh Torres, also known as FoxHoundFPS, confirmed that this was indeed a glitch. Torres said he has shared the thread with the team, and explained that they’re “tracking a fix for this in a future major update.”

When BOCW first launched, certain scopes could appear upside down on next-gen consoles, but Treyarch was quick to address this. We can expect a fix for this unusual issue soon.

If you have any glitches such as this to report to Black Ops Cold War devs, you can follow our simple guide on how to report bugs to Treyarch.

How to freeze the timer in Black Ops Cold War’s Cranked Zombies mode

Cranked is BOCW’s speedy Zombies mode and requires the player to beat a timer. Here’s how you can freeze the timer in the Cranked game mode.

Black Ops Cold War Season 1 saw Cranked make its first appearance as a Zombies mode, and players have found a new glitch that freeze’s the timer mid-game.

The fresh Zombies mode is all about speed and fast-thinking. This is more apparent as a big timer is plastered on the screen, counting down, and constantly reminding you of this. To prevent the “Game Over” screen, you need to keep replenishing your time by scoring kills from the undead.

Though that sense of urgency can be forgotten about if you can enforce the timer glitch that’s been discovered. If performed correctly, the clock will permanently stop and give you all the time in the world to survive.

Content creator Caspahz has been able to find a way to make the timer one less enemy for yourself. It’s a simple and easy set of instructions that need to be followed and reap huge benefits.

Here are the steps you need to follow to pull this glitch off.

  1. Start a game of Cranked
  2. Keep playing until you earn enough resources to buy either a Cruise Missile or Chopper Gunner
  3. Wait for the timer to tick down until it gets to 3 seconds
  4. Then call in the streak
  5. Don’t eliminate any Zombies with it
  6. When the streak appears, the timer should now have disappeared
  7. You should now how an infinite amount of time to play how you want

You will now have free reign to take your time and take in the different parameters that Crank offers compared to traditional Zombies.

It’s good to see that Treyarch is continuing to support Zombies with a variety of content and the trend shows no signs of stopping. Forthcoming Zombies updates will see a new Fireteam map, new perks, and much more.

Easily finish Diamond camo for the M79 in Black Ops Cold War

A TikToker has discovered a way to easily achieve the Diamond camo on the M79 in Black Ops Cold War through a secret spot on Nuketown.

A TikTok video by North Texas shows players how to easily achieve gold camo on the M79 special launcher in Black Ops Cold War.

Launcher challenges in Black Ops Cold War are brutal and time-consuming. Often, they require perfect circumstances to achieve, and it can take several games to get the right conditions. In the previous Call of Duty titles, launchers would be time-consuming and difficult as well, but Black Ops Cold War is especially difficult.

Due to the low damage values and effectiveness of Flak Jacket, some launchers can take up to 3 shots to kill enemies in hardcore modes, which is problematic for obvious reasons. Players need to achieve longshots, double-kills, and even killstreaks to master each respective launcher.

One of the most difficult launchers in Black Ops Cold War is the M79. Luckily, a player has discovered a spot to get easy longshots and feeds with the weapon to expedite the tedious process.

It appears that TikToker North_Texas has found a spot on the A-Side spawn in Nuketown that makes longshots a breeze with the M79. If you position yourself precisely in the garden area, aim all the way up, and fire, you’ll send shots perfectly aimed at the B flag.

All kills will register as longshots due to the range from this area. You may even score some easy double-kills off spawn from players attempting to capture B. If enemies are using Flak Jacket, you still may get a kill with the next shot.

We recommend lobby-surfing for hardcore games with players who aren’t running Flak Jacket, as this will make the process much faster. After a few kills, players may enable the perk, so you can feel free to leave the game and try again in another lobby.
