Activision says over 500 developers working on the Call of Duty Franchise

Activision said that it has more than 500 developers working on Call of Duty, the best-selling video game series of all time, which generates billions of dollars in revenue. The company has four or five studios working on Call of Duty titles at any given time, which is more manpower than most video game companies have working on all of their franchises. Dave Stohl, Activision’s EVP for studios at the company, told VentureBeat that the line-up includes a brand new Infinity Ward after the West/Zampella depature and Sledgehammer Games, both working together on Modern Warfare 3. There’s also Treyarch working on non-Modern Warfare-based titles, Beachhead on Call of Duty: Elite, Demonware handling the services for all of the games and Raven Software assisting with multiplayer on all Call of Duty titles.

Stohl wouldn’t talk about the future of the franchise much, but he did go on to say that John “Soap” MacTavish and John Price, the main characters of Modern Warfare, are “two of the most iconic characters in gaming.”
