Mysterious Activision game reportedly appears in PlayStation database
An unnamed Activision game has reportedly been added to PlayStation’s database, which has led fans to speculate if it’s something to do with Call of Duty or a new IP entirely.
Following the success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Remastered titles, players have been waiting for the conclusion to the remastered trilogy with Modern Warfare 3. There have been unverified rumors that MW3 Campaign Remastered will launch in 2021.
This speculation has been further fuelled by a mysterious Activision game reportedly appearing on PlayStation’s database. Although Activision has said nothing to confirm this game is arriving, this listing has led to a ton of speculation that Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Remastered will be launching soon.
Twitter account PlayStation Game Size tweeted on May 17 that “An unknown game has been added to the database by Activision,” which is expected to have a 43.970 GB download size and be rated 17+. Players have said this roughly lines up with MW2 Campaign Remastered’s file size.
If the 17+ age rating remains, this mysterious game is unlikely to be Crash Bandicoot but could be related to their other Mature-rated games, such as Prototype and Sekiro. This could also be a brand new IP and nothing related to Call of Duty or any other existing franchise.
With the success of Warzone, Black Ops Cold War, and CoD: Mobile, and a planned 80s Action Hero crossover, it’s highly unlikely that Modern Warfare 3 Remastered will drop this year. Both MWR and Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered were launched during an Infinity Ward game’s lifecycle, so if IW takes the reins for 2022, that’s the most likely time for the game release.
A ton of rumors have also circulated regarding a remaster of Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer this year, but Activision have already squashed this by saying that Sledgehammer Game’s CoD 2021 will feature multiplayer.
