A false rumor claiming that Sledgehammer is working on Advanced Warfare 2 for Call of Duty 2025 has been debunked.

Despite Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 not being far from release, players and the community alike are constantly looking ahead at the future of Call of Duty.

There are many developers now working on the game, with a cycle that includes Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer. The latter introduced Vanguard in 2021, and in 2022, it’s Infinity Ward’s turn to bring the highly anticipated sequel to Modern Warfare 2019.

Talking of sequels, a rumor from RalphsValve suggested that Call of Duty 2025 could be a sequel to Sledgehammer Games’ Advanced Warfare. However, sources are now claiming that this rumor is false.

According to leaks and the developer cycle of Call of Duty, Treyarch are set to be the next to release a Call of Duty game in 2024, giving Modern Warfare 2 two years of life.

With that said, one of the reasons this Advanced Warfare 2 rumor was found not to be true is because it would mean that Activision wouldn’t be giving Treyarch’s 2024 CoD title a two-year cycle, which is unlikely.

In the comments of CharlieIntel’s post, popular Call of Duty leaker GhostOfHope claimed that they have also “heard and can corroborate that Sledgehammer is working on a successor to Advanced Warfare.”

To push the rumor further, they also claimed that “Treyarch getting 2 years is still potentially not settled in studio yet,” hence the mention of 2025.

However, now sources are confirming that “there is no advanced Warfare 2 currently in development at Sledgehammer Games, despite the rumors.”

Although Sledgehammer may not be working on Advanced Warfare 2, they will definitely be working on something, but according to CharlieIntel’s sources, it’s “not fully clear yet what Sledgehammer Games is working on.”

As soon as more information is available on Sledgehammer’s next CoD title we’ll be sure to keep you up to date. For now, check out another leak that claims MW2 will have a “greatest hits” map pack.
