Fortnite’s new Imposter mode probably looks very familiar to some, but Among Us devs aren’t happy about their game’s concept serving as the inspiration.
If you’ve played Among Us, then you may notice some similarities in the new Fortnite game mode. The developers have noticed them as well, and they’re upset with Epic Games over this.
Gary Porter, a programmer at Innersloth, posted an image of the map for Fortnite’s Impostor mode. They highlighted the striking similarities it shares to The Skeld map in Among Us.

“It’s okay tho, they flipped electrical and medbay and connected security to the cafeteria,” Porter wrote. “I wasn’t even around for the development of Skeld and I’m still kind of offended.”
This has gained traction, as other employees on the Innersloth team also started chiming in on the matter.
Among Us community director Victoria Tran also expressed her frustration with Epic Games’ decision. She made it clear that it would’ve been less of an issue if they had decided to do a collab instead.
“It would’ve been really, really cool to collab haha. Just sad indie hours rn,” she tweeted. “Like game mechanics fine, those shouldn’t be gatekept, but at the very least even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting?”
Innersloth co-founder Puff felt the same way and tweeted out that Epic Games could’ve tried putting their own spin on the Among Us format for this new game mode.
“We didn’t patent the Among Us mechanics,” he wrote. “I don’t think that leads to a healthy game industry. Is it really that hard to put 10% more effort into putting your own spin on it, though?”
Epic Games have added crossover content from other video games like Street Fighter and even popular franchises like Superman and Batman. So, it wouldn’t have been out of the ordinary to do a collab with Among Us.
At the time of writing, the Fortnite developers have yet to respond to these complaints. We’ll keep checking for updates, so stay tuned to Charlie INTEL, and check out the leaked crossover with Chris Hemsworth’s Extinction.
