‘Anthem Next’ revamp abandoned by EA & BioWare following internal review

Anthem Next cancelled by EA and BioWare

Anthem Next, BioWare’s complete revamp of the unsuccessful Anthem game, has now been cancelled following an internal review.

Anthem, which was released on February 22, 2019, jumped into a cluttered landscape of looter-shooters and did little to stand out from the pack. The game fell flat for a lot of players and was subject to some poor reviews that never seemed to get any better.

BioWare, the game’s developers, are well-known for making high-quality games like Mass Effect and Dragon’s Age. The failure of Anthem hit them hard, but they were dedicated to improving the experience for all players.

Months after the game’s release, BioWare and EA announced Anthem Next. The new update promised to breathe life back into the game, just as updates to No Man’s Sky and Destiny have in the past.

Anthem Next cancelled

Unfortunately, on February 24, 2021, BioWare shared some bad news with the Anthem fanbase. “In the spirit of transparency and closure we wanted to share that we’ve made the difficult decision to stop our new development work on Anthem (aka Anthem NEXT),” they wrote in a blog post.

The team assured players that they would “continue to keep the Anthem live service running as it exists today.”

With this decision, BioWare and EA will be moving some of their developers away from Anthem Next to better “focus our efforts as a studio and strengthen the next Dragon Age, and Mass Effect titles while continuing to provide quality updates to Star Wars: The Old Republic.”

It looks like Anthem’s last hope of being the game that fans expected has been abandoned. Hopefully, the additional focus on other BioWare IPs pay off in the future.

Reports claim Gears of War could be getting remastered collection like Halo

A new rumor is circulating that claims Gears of War could be the next Xbox title to recieve a remastered collection.

New reports suggest that Xbox are planning to release another set of remastered games, with Gears of War implied as the title to receive the Halo: Master Chief Collection treatment.

Remasters are big business in gaming, giving players the opportunity to relive their favorite games with upgraded graphics. Franchises like Call of Duty have taken advantage of nostalgia, releasing titles like CoD 4 Remastered, although it doesn’t always go well, as Rockstar found out with their critically panned GTA Trilogy.

Remaking old games is something Microsoft and Xbox Studios have looked into in the past, with the Master Chief Collection allowing Halo fans to enjoy their favorite entries in the franchise.

Now, it seems like they’re set to use that formula again, this time focusing on another of their exclusive franchises: Gears of War.

According to Xboxera Podcast host Nick Shepsal, the rumor going around is that another “Microsoft franchise that will be getting the Master Chief Collection treatment.”

“Timelines, I’m not sure about. Most likely next year. A collection of games all bundled into one,” he stated. When the chat started to guess Fable and Gears of War, Shepsal smiled and said those were the two he “expected chat to say,” before confirming he knows the title but can’t say.

The Verge editor Tom Warren then added fuel to the fire, replying to a tweet of the above clip by saying: “The gears are really turning on this rumor.”

While it’s possible this is just a coincidence, it’s fairly unlikely. Warren’s choice of words was clearly a hint, although whether it’s real or just him messing with Xbox fans is impossible to know.

There hasn’t been a new Gears of War title since 2019, and with five games in the series, a remastered collection would give players plenty of content to enjoy for the foreseeable future.

Whether this rumor will turn out to be true remains to be seen, but we’ll keep you updated with any news.

Epic Games rolled out another Fortnite update on January 25 to fix a problem with the game’s creative mode, and here is the full list of the 3.44 update patch notes.

Fortnite Chapter 3 is well underway, and there is a ton of fun content to enjoy such as the Klombo Dinosaurs and Hawkeye outfits. However, there are also a few issues that the devs are attempting to fix.

Epic Games rolled out a new update on January 25. The latest patch went live across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. We have the Fortnite 3.44 update patch notes detailing the new changes.

Fortnite updates such as the recent 19.10 patch tend to bring a wide variety of bug fixes and changes to the game. However, the 3.44 patch makes a relatively minor change to the battle royale title.

The latest update only has a single patch note as it focuses on fixing one issue within the game’s Creative Mode. While most players won’t notice the difference, the fix is still greatly appreciated.

Support-A-Creator UI in Fortnite

There aren’t a lot of exciting changes in the 3.44 update patch as compared to the 19.10 update that brought back the fan-favorite Tilted Towers. However, Epic Games did fix one problem:

  • Fixed the issue with the Support-A-Creator UI missing from the pre-game lobby of some Creative islands.

The Support-A-Creator UI was missing from pre-game lobbies on a few Creative Islands. Now, the latest update has fixed this issue and players will be able to support their favorite content creators again.

This fix has gone live on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC, and Android. The developers reassured players that they’ll inform them when the update arrives on the Nintendo Switch version.

Hopefully, we’ll see a major update patch released in the new future. It could bring a plethora of exciting new content to the battle royale, including the highly-anticipated Green Goblin outfit and the return of lightsabers.

Apex Legends Maggie teaser confirms leaked weapon attachment

The new Apex Legends ‘Stories from the Outlands’ trailer has confirmed the arrival of a previously-leaked Season 12 weapon attachment.

Mad Maggie in Apex Legends

The trailer for Mad Maggie’s ‘Stories from the Outlands’ episode has confirmed the arrival of a certain weapon attachment that was leaked for Apex Legends Season 12.

Apex Legends fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Season 12 and all the new content that it will bring. The most notable addition is the new Legend Mad Maggie that will be joining the game’s ever-growing roster.

A trailer was released for the new character’s ‘Stories from the Outlands’ episode. This teaser also confirmed the arrival of a Season 12 weapon attachment that was leaked back in early January.

The Stories from the Outlands trailer shows Maggie being held at gunpoint by Apex Legends Syndicate soldiers. There are bright green laser sights attached to the weapons being held by those troops.

This confirms the leaks which pointed to the arrival of this weapon attachment in Season 12. According to those, this laser sight will be coming in different colors and exclusively for Pistols and SMGs.

At the time of writing, we don’t have more details beyond this. Some players have been speculating that the color of these laser sights will be customizable much like the Apex Legends reticles.

This has led to players wondering if we’ll also see the arrival of other leaked attachments, including the Explosive Lobber for the L-Star and the Kinetic Loader for the Volt, Peacekeeper, and Alternator.

Even if all of these attachments are currently in the game files, there’s no way to know if they’ll become available during Season 12. We may have to wait a while before they’re added to the loot pool.

It would make sense to see them in Season 12, as that is the next big update. Hopefully, the developers will officially announce if and when these new pieces of content will be added to the game.
