Apex Legends 1.71 update patch notes

The Apex Legends 1.71 update has finally fixed some of the issues in the Nintendo Switch version of the game and re-enabled Arenas leavers penalties. Here’s everything included in this new patch.

Respawn Entertainment often brings various updates to Apex Legends to make the game feel fresh. These tend to include new weapons, characters, and various bug fixes in the update patch notes.

The 1.71 update re-enables abandonment penalties for those who leave games early in Arenas. Respawn is also celebrating Pride Month by adding Pride badges that you can wear in the game.

Here’s everything in the update patch.

Apex Legends Season 9 arenas

The Apex Legends update went live on June 3, 2021. This is a relatively small one, so there are no official patch notes for it. The developers have brought a few small additions to the battle royale.

The 1.71 update mainly focuses on fixing issues with the game’s Arenas mode and the Nintendo Switch console version of the battle royale. You can take a look at these changes in the tweet below.

Re-enabled Arenas abandonment penalty

The 3v3 Arenas mode was one of the most notable additions in the Legacy update, but there was an exploit that kept players that abandoned games from losing their win streaks, much to the chagrin of other players.

Respawn responded to this by introducing an abandonment penalty similar to the one “applied in Ranked BR games.” However, this was also applying to players that were accidentally disconnected from games due to a bug.

This came to the attention of the developers, who then made a few changes to the penalty system before re-enabling it in the 1.71 update. Now, leaver penalties can take up to 24 hours to activate.

Pride badges for players

Respawn Entertainment has decided to celebrate Pride Month with this new update by providing players with a neat-looking Pride badge. This will be available to you the next time you log in to the game.

Quite a few of the Legends are from the LGBT community. This includes Gibraltar, Loba, Bloodhound, Mirage, and Valkyrie.

So, this login reward has is a nice little addition that has been mostly well-received by Apex Legends players. Respawn also showed off a Bangalore banner with this badge on Twitter.

Voice chat fix for Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch

Two years after its subsequent release, Apex Legends finally made its debut on Nintendo’s dual-function system near the start of Season 9. However, it had a messy launch, with players labelling it as “unplayable” due to performance issues.

Some of the most prevalent issues on Nintendo Switch consoles were with the voice chat. Fortunately, the developers have issued a fix for this in the latest update, and this problem won’t persist from this point onwards.

That covers everything that’s included in the 1.71 Apex Legends update. Hopefully, these changes will provide a more pleasant experience for players in the 3v3 Arenas mode, as well as to Switch users.

Apex Legends devs finally fixing frustrating stuttering issues

Respawn Entertainment have confirmed that a fix is coming for the stuttering issues plaguing Apex Legends on PC.

Respawn confirm fix for Apex Legends stuttering issue

Stuttering issues can often make playing Apex Legends at a high frame rate feel much less fun, but Respawn Entertainment have confirmed that a fix for this problem is on its way.

One advantage to playing games on PC is that you get to enjoy them at a decently high frame rate. While that sounds fun, it also comes with its own set of problems, as Apex Legends fans have to deal with stuttering issues.

This is when the high frame rate causes the game to be choppy, ruining your accuracy. As a result, players often end up lowering the FPS. Now, Respawn have assured fans that this will soon be resolved.

Apex Legends Season 9 roster

Apex Legends fans were discussing the “microstutter bug” on Reddit, and this gained a response from Respawn’s Lead Software Engineer Samy ‘ricklesauceur’ Duc.

One player asked if there was any way to get past the game’s 300 FPS cap, and another user advised against trying this. The game engine has a bug in it which causes a microstutter when you reach 180 FPS.

The developer then confirmed that this issue “should be gone after [the] next patch.” This fix will allow players on higher-end rigs to enjoy smoother gameplay than before.

Respawn finally fixing Apex Legends stuttering issues

The devs have been focused on fixing multiple in-game issues ever since the Legacy update went live. There have also been upcoming changes teased for Evo Shields recently.

Once this patch arrives, PC gamers should be able to get past the 180 FPS mark without encountering stuttering issues. There’s currently no date given for when we should expect to see this update patch.

This fix seems to be exclusive to PC, and players experiencing stutter issues on console will have to wait for a wider patch.

Apex Legends devs confirm Mirage Voyage ship POI won’t return

Respawn’s Lead Game Designer Daniel Klein has confirmed that the fan-favorite Mirage Voyage POI won’t be coming back to Apex Legends.

Mirage's Voyage won't return in Apex Legends

The Mirage Voyage is one of the most popular POIs in Apex Legends, and Respawn Entertainment have confirmed that it probably won’t return to the battle royale anytime soon.

The Apex Legends Legacy update brought a plethora of brand-new content like the Arenas mode and Valkyrie. A ton of fans are playing Apex Legends this season, and they have their own favorite map areas.

The Mirage Voyage ship was first added to the game in Season 3 and has become a fan-favorite since then. However, Respawn have confirmed that we won’t see this POI return to the battle royale.

The next Ranked split in Apex Legends will bring the action to Olympus, so players were excited about seeing this POI again. Respawn Lead Designer Daniel Klein then confirmed on Reddit that Mirage Voyage won’t be coming back.

“Oh the Voyage is CRASHED crashed,” said the developer. “I think it’s down for good.” This came as a huge disappointment to fans that wanted the ship to be a recurring location the battle royale’s maps.

This is reminiscent of when Respawn retired Kings Canyon’s Skull Town which was another fan-favorite POI that was blown up for Season 5.

There have been hints that we might see the arrival of another similar ship in the game one day, but we won’t see the Mirage Voyage POI take flight again anytime soon.

We’ll just have to wait and see if Respawn Entertainment have any plans to introduce something else to fill the void left by the ship’s departure from the battle royale. Only time will tell if they do intend to release something.
