2021 is kicking off in style as Apex Legends is getting a new Fight Night Collection including new game modes, rewards, and other updates.

Apex Legends has enjoyed a solid resurgence with Season 7, and Season 8 is already on the horizon. 2020 is behind us, but Respawn Entertainment has already tried to get the year off to a hot start with the new Fight Night Collection event and lots of new updates and fixes.

You should always strike whilst the iron is hot, and that’s exactly what Respawn is trying to do with Apex Legends. In their own words:

“2020 is last year’s news. Let’s start talking about 2021, beginning with our plans for the Fight Night Collection Event, coming January 5th.”

There is plenty of content to come for aspiring Apex Legends in the making, and we have all the information for you below.

AIRDROP ESCALATION TAKEOVER

“With this update, we’re testing a new approach to LTMs. Instead of launching as its own playlist, the Airdrop Escalation LTM will be a “takeover” of the normal “Play Apex” game mode. It’s classic Battle Royale, but with way, way more supply drops. Immediately after you leave the Jumpship, you’ll find a cluster of four supply drops across the map. During each round, more will drop—they land at the same speed as Lifeline’s Care Packages.”

“Each supply drop contains a fully-kitted weapon of different tiers, depending on the round. For example, Round one’s drops feature level two kitted weapons while Round four’s drops include red armor and crate weapons. As with regular fully-kitted weapons, you can’t break them down or swap their attachments onto other weapons. And, of course, regular weapons and weapons will still appear as ground loot.”

PATHFINDER TOWN TAKEOVER

“Entering the ring will prevent any player from using their weapons and any of their abilities. The only way to beat someone is via a bit of fist o’ cuffs. Oh, and don’t worry about any outside ring interference—no outside projectiles, grenades, or abilities can penetrate the ring’s force field.”

“Punchout the loot balls contained within the ring to scoop up some rare loot. Just remember you can’t use it until you leave!”

FIGHT NIGHT COLLECTION EVENT AND REWARDS TRACK

“The Fight Night Collection Event brings another set of 24 themed, limited-time cosmetics to Apex Legends.

All 24 items will be available through direct purchase (for Apex Coins or Crafting Metals) and in Event Apex Packs for the entire duration of the event.

Each Event Pack will come with one event item and two non-event items at the following drop rates:

Each pack contains:

  • One Event Item: 50% Event Epic, 50% Event Legendary
  • One Non-Event Item: 70% Rare, 20% Epic, 10% Legendary
  • One Non-Event Item: 70% Rare, 20% Epic, 10% Legendary

If you collect all 24 event items, you’ll get the Gibraltar Heirloom.

After the event ends, the Gibraltar Heirloom will become available via heirloom crafting.

As with previous events, this event brings a rewards track with all-new earnable cosmetics:

You can earn 1000 points per day and challenges refresh daily. The challenges also stack with your Battle Pass, so you can complete both at once.”

LOOT MRVNS

“After having been previously decommissioned, MRVNs are now programmed to reward Legends in the arena. Only appearing in Olympus, these friendly guys will give you loot after interacting with them. They’ll produce tiered loot equal to what is shown on their screens.

  • White sad face = Common level 1 loot
  • Neutral blue face = Rare level 2 loot
  • Pleased purple face = Epic level 3 loot
  • Very Happy yellow face = Legendary Level 4 loot

Pick up your loot and thank your friendly MRVN. Or, if you’re feeling toxic, shoot them. When you do, they may drop their arm for you to store in your inventory. Taking this to another MRVN with the missing piece may get you a reward. Hi-five?”

META UPDATES

Legends

Rampart:

  • Amped Cover: Decreased cooldown from 30 seconds to 20 seconds

Caustic:

  • Nox Gas Trap: Decreased cooldown from 25 seconds to 20 seconds

Weapons

Hemlok:

  • Decreased damage from 22 to 20.

Mastiff:

  • Spread out 3rd/4th pellets to decrease max range of 4 pellet hits (was +/- 7.5 degrees, now +/- 10)

Prowler:

  • Reserve bullets increased from 175 to 210

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Ultimate Accelerants can now be used without opening your inventory. If your ultimate is not currently available, just press the button (or buttons, on a controller) to activate it, and you’ll pull out any stored Accelerant in your inventory and use it automatically.
  • When in a lobby, if a party member leaves your lobby for any reason, all party members will be marked as “not ready.” This should stop accidental launches into a match when your buddy dipped out for a second.
  • The fabled “Mark All As Seen” button has been added. Click this to remove the pesky (I mean helpful) red dots.
  • Pinging the nearest respawn beacon (from spectate) will now always ping the nearest beacon unless you don’t have enough time to use it before the ring closes over it, instead of defaulting to the nearest beacon in the next safe ring.
  • We now show you how many treasure packs are needed to acquire the next comic page. This should just make it easier to people who are chasing the new bit of lore to know how far away they are.
  • Caustic should now smash the door with his Heirloom hammer instead of his leg, if available.
  • We added a small bit of information to the Find Friends box to describe a situation where your friend might not be findable because of their EA account settings.

BUG FIXES

Bloodhound

  • Fixed an issue with Bloodhound’s UI disappearing after interacting with Horizon’s Tactical.

Wraith

  • Fixed an issue with Wraith’s Portals getting destroyed by the Trident.

  • Fixed an issue with Bangalore’s missile passing through hatch doors when they are closed in Worlds Edge.

Mirage

  • Fixed an issue with Mirage’s decoys not making footstep sounds.

Crypto

  • Fixed an issue with Hack consuming two Vault keys if two keys were in Crypto’s inventory.

  • Fixed an issue causing other players to teleport with Revenant if they punch Revenant when he has very little health.
  • Fixed an issue that didn’t allow Revenant to deploy the Death Totem while on the Trident.

  • Fixed an issue with Horizon’s abilities not affecting Lifeline’s DOC and Crypto’s drone.

Apex Legends: how to activate the Season 9 Arena teaser

Apex Legends data miners have found out how players can activate a new Season 9 teaser. Here’s how to see it for yourself.

Apex Legends Season 9 Teaser Arena

The Apex Legends Season 9 teaser is now live, revealing the mystery behind the mysterious platform in the Firing Range.

After the halfway split for Season 8, players noticed a stranged platform implemented on the left side of the Firing Range map.

For weeks players were unaware of its purpose, but finally, the mystery has been uncovered and is associated with the new upcoming Arena mode.

Season 9 Teaser Arena

Data miner @GarretLeaks was among the few who leaked how players can activate the button found on the Firing Range platform.

GarretLeaks has even created a step by step guide of how players can experience the Season 9 Arena teaser, which will be available April 20th:

  • Step 1: Collect keycard from care packages (available now)
  • Step 2: Find Holosprays scattered around Kings Canyon
  • Step 3: Find Holosprays scattered around Olympus
  • Step 4: Press the phone in the lobby and listen to the audio
  • Step 5: Press the button on the Firing Range platform and wait for the ship (available on April 20th)

The Corrupted Keycards are now live and available to pick up from Care Packages in-game for both Kings Canyon and Olympus. On the 20th, players will then be able to scan the Holosprays and activate the teaser.

Dataminer @Shrugtal released images of where players will be able to find these Holosprays, which are located in various locations across the two maps.

You can scan multiple Holosprays in one match and even scan all three over multiple matches. It seems the Holosprays will spawn in all the locations highlighted in Shrugtal’s image.

Along with this, fellow data miner @Biast12 has also released a video showing what happens after activating the button in the Firing Range.

The video shows Biast boarding a ship after activating the button. Biast arrives at a new location where another button awaits, which activates an elevator. This then takes you into a small arena where a massive hollo of future Legend Ash is shown along with a voice line that states, “The Arena awaits.”

This is clearly a teaser for the upcoming 3v3 mode ‘Arena,’ which will be arriving in Season 9. However, this is also a teaser for the future legend, Ash. Although Ash will likely be arriving at a later Season – more like Season 10 – it does confirm that she will be arriving sooner than later.

In fact, it’s not the first time an announcer for a game mode has eventually become a playable Legend. Back in Season 3, the Shadow Fall game mode saw Revenant as the announcer, who later became a playable Legend in Season 4.

If this stays true to the format, Ash could be the new Legend for Season 10, after being an announcer for the previous season much like the introduction of Revenant. Players will be able to activate this teaser towards the end of Season 8.

Big map changes and Crypto event details revealed Apex Legends Season 9 leak

Some new Apex Legends leaks point to Olympus going through big changes in Season 9, and Crypto’s heirloom event having a special theme.

New changes planned for Olympus in Apex

A new Apex Legends leak has emerged which hints at some major map changes for Olympus and World’s Edge when Season 9 goes live. It also reveals new details about the Crypto heirloom event too.

Apex Legends has gone through various changes since launch, with each update bringing new content like weapons, heirlooms, and even Legends. The game’s map has also been reformed with new areas like Olympus joining the battle royale.

While Kings Canyon and World’s Edge have been largely altered from their original forms, Olympus has yet to be touched. Now, some new leaks have popped up which suggest that’s all about to change soon.

Olympus in Apex Legends

These leaks came from notable Apex Legends data miner Biast12, who stated that World’s Edge is set to undergo some small adjustments during Season 9, with a major map change also planned for Olympus.

“Olympus should get the “big map change” at season start,” he tweeted. “World’s Edge should get a small map change mid-season.” So far, it doesn’t seem like anything is planned for Kings Canyon but that could change.

Season 8 completely reformed that map, and left it in a ruined state. So, it’s likely that Respawn might plan some bigger changes for it in future seasons.

Additionally, the data miner also had revealed some new information regarding the upcoming Crypto heirloom event. The season three legend is getting a Jikdo sword as an heirloom, and the event will have a “post-apocalypse” theme.

That event will probably also bring some brand-new skins and other cosmetics for players to equip. With a potential “post-apocalypse” theme, we wouldn’t be too surprised if we ended up seeing some creative new designs.

It’s worth keeping in mind that these are currently just leaks, and are subject to change until Respawn announces something official. That said, we’ll keep checking for further updates, and will inform you once we learn something new.

Apex Legends devs may rework Crypto if his play rate gets worse

Apex Legends dev reveals hacker Crypto could be receiving a rework in Season 9 if his pick rate gets any worse.

Apex Legends Crypto rework

Crypto could be next in line to receive a rework for Season 9 after Apex Legends dev reveals they are watching his play rate closely.

Crypto is a very niche character in Apex Legends and it’s no surprise that his play rate may be lower than most of the other Legends.

Crypto was introduced in Season 3, along with World’s Edge after the hacker destroyed the beacon at Repulser on Kings Canyon. Crypto has a strong dislike towards the Syndicate, the group behind the Apex Games, joining the fight to get closer to the corrupt company.

Apex Legends Season 9 Crypto rework

His introduction was well received and even became a strong pick in Ranked Leagues, combining his ultimate Drone EMP with characters like Wraith and Octane to get in quickly after Crypto deals the shield damage.

During a podcast, live balance designer John Larson stated that Crypto had a low pick rate in Season 8, but a “healthy win rate,” putting him in an odd spot for a rework.

His pick rate is much lower than other Legends, sitting at 1.5% compared to fellow Survey Legend Bloodhound’s 14.3%, according to Apex legends Status.

Larson believes this is because of his Surveillance Drone, as it provokes a playstyle that many players aren’t necessarily too fond of. Most casual players want a character that keeps them in the fight and can be used aggressively, whereas Crypto is most useful when he is in the drone.

Unlike Bloodhound, for Crypto to be most effective he needs to be out of the fight, making him a tough character to master and also one that many players won’t have the motivation for.

Crypto is a character that once mastered, can be extremely useful, especially with good teammates who have the ability to take fights without a third always being there.

If Crypto’s play rate or win rate gets any lower, Larson revealed they will look into reworking him as a whole, much like Mirage and Lifeline.
