Apex Legends dev teases vehicles coming to more maps in future seasons
Apex Legends developers have revealed they have considered adding vehicles to Apex Legends maps other than Olympus.
Vehicles have become a staple of battle royale games, where they are incredibly useful in escaping the ever-closing circle, but not in Apex Legends. Its maps are considerably smaller than that of other battle royale games and have many more means of traversal.
On Season 7’s new map, Olympus, developers added a new form of transport: the Trident. Your whole squad could hop into these vehicles to quickly get from A to B, and third-party far away fights.
Now, Season 8 has taken us back to Kings Canyon. Although very different from when you saw it last, there are no drivable vehicles to be found.
So far, the Trident is exclusive to Olympus but developers at Respawn Entertainment revealed they have toyed with adding them to more maps.
In an interview with RockPaperShotgun, Respawn’s Design Director, Jason McCord described how they have tested the Trident on existing maps, and
“The vehicles were tuned very specifically to Olympus, but we did test it on other maps just for fun to see what they were like,” explained McCord. “If we were to try and bring the Trident over we’d have to make a lot of adjustments to the other maps.”
“It’d be way in the future, but we’re all excited about the idea,” he concluded on the matter.
While we may not see the Trident, or a completely new vehicle, in Seasons 9 or 10, we can hope to see them in the future.

While vehicles would sure be fun, Kings Canyon and World’s Edge are designed to be explored on foot, so they would need to be almost completely overhauled for vehicles to be viable.
We don’t know if more vehicles will make their way onto other Apex Legends in future seasons, but it’s an exciting prospect.
