The Apex Legends Season 13 update will bring some pretty major changes to the Ranked Leagues system, which many in the community have been asking for.

Apex Legends Season 13 has officially been revealed as “Saviors,” with the April 25 and gameplay trailers revealing more details on the new Legend, Newcastle.

As well as trailers, the reveal also brought a new blog from Respawn which has detailed all of the changes that the Ranked Leagues mode will be getting in Season 13. There are some pretty big changes to the system in the new update, so let’s get into them.

Apex Legends Season 13 Ranked Reloaded

Apex Legends Ranked Rank Reset

Respawn Entertainment are calling the major changes to Apex Legends’ competitive mode “Ranked Reloaded.” The focus is set on two goals:

  • Teamplay for Victory
  • Accurate Skill & Better Competition

The devs over at Respawn are making some pretty hefty changes to the system, hoping that the changes will bring more focus on teamplay and also a more accurate RP per “overall game skill” representation.

Changes to KP in Apex Legends Season 13

In Season 13, there will no longer be a “Kill RP Cap.” Instead, the base value of each kill is worth increasingly less, down to a minimum.”

This essentially means that as you gain kills there will be a decrease in the amount of RP that it earns. Instead of kills and assists having a cap, players will continue to earn RP for every kill they get, but the more they kill, the fewer points it rewards.

The devs have also decided to pull down the KP gains for placing worse than 10th. This will make it more difficult for players to gain just based on KP, giving more importance to placement. However, getting placement without kills will also result in little RP, so it seems a balance has been met between KP and placement RP.

Players will also now receive 50% of the RP for kills that the player did not contribute towards, which does not include teammates that are dead.

Assist Rules changes in Season 13

As for the new Assist Rules, the previous assist timer was 10 seconds, which the devs feel was “too short.” Thus, in Season 13, this will be increased to 15 seconds. Although this isn’t a massive difference, five seconds is a lot of time in the midst of battle, and clearly, the devs are hoping it’s enough to satisfy and make a difference in-game.

Further, there is another change coming for the Assist Rules in Season 13, “if an enemy you helped knock is revived and immediately downed again by one of your allies, you’ll still be eligible for an assist credit.”

This is great as it means players won’t be missing out on KP simply because the person they knocked was revived, which is the correct change as they still helped put the enemy player in that situation.

RP thresholds changes

RP will also be getting a change in Season 13. The RP thresholds are being adjusted for each tier and division with the intention of keeping the “difficulty and effort to achieve them relatively the same.”

  • RP thresholds for all tiers and division adjusted. The length of each division is increased by 200RP.

Apex Legends Season 13 Tier Demotions

As the description of “Rise and fall through the Ranks” suggested, for Apex Legends Season 13, players will be demoted if they are unable to gain RP at the bottom of a rank.

Players will get “demotion protection” for three games, but once this is over, “dropping below the tier threshold will trigger a demotion penalty, dropping the player halfway down the previous division.”

For example, if you get demoted from the Master’s rank, you will be taken down to halfway through Diamond 1. Further, new to Season 13, players will get a “100 RP Tier Promotion Bonus,” giving players a chance to progress before being demoted straight away.

Further, players will now be granted the rewards for the highest RP threshold achieved.

Brand new Introductory Tier

Previously, Bronze was the first Tier players would have to start grinding at. In Season 13, a brand new Introductory Tier called “Rookie” will be before Bronze to give starting players a nice place to begin their journey.

This Tier is intended for new players and so existing players are “unaffected by the introduction of the Rookie Tier, and can not be demoted into it, and likewise will not be reset into it on new splits or seasons.”

Entry Cost Adjustments

Apex Legends Season 13 Ranked Reloaded also brings some huge changes to the RP Entry Costs. Now, there will be an increase in RP entry cost for every division within a rank.

So, for example, a player in Division 4 of Platinum will have an Entry cost of 51. For players in Division 1 of Platinum, they will have an entry cost of 60. There is an increase of three RP every time you increase your division within a rank.

However, for those in Masters rank, the entry cost will increase by 5 RP every time a player reaches 1000 RP beyond the Master threshold. This will increase by 5 all the way until the entry cost reaches 175 RP, which is the cap.

3rd Party Kill Stealing Fix

Lastly, Respawn have finally implemented a fix for when teams are wrongly given KP after eliminating downed enemies that had been knocked by an eliminated team. Now, these downed enemies will not be given as KP to any teams.
