Apex Legends Season 16 removes Arenas in favor of TDM & Mixtape mode
Respawn EntertainmentApex Legends Arenas will be removed and replaced in Season 16 with a new Team Deathmatch and Mixtape mode.
While players usually associate a new season with added content, Apex Legends Season 16 is all about tweaking and updating the game’s core gameplay and systems, apart from bringing a new weapon.
One of the biggest changes coming to Apex Legends in the Season 16 update is the removal of Arenas in favor of some brand-new modes. Arenas’s removal comes around the same time that Respawn announced Apex Legends Mobile’s sunset, creating an overall theme of a revamp for the franchise.
Apex Legends Season 16 removes Arenas permanently
Respawn Entertainment have now confirmed that the Apex Legends 3v3 Arenas mode will be discontinued in Season 16, meaning it will no longer be available in the game as of the season’s launch on February 14, 2023.
According to the devs during the press event, the reason for the removal of Apex Legends’ Arenas mode is that it wasn’t achieving the goal of practicing the combat loop, and Season 16 is all about evolving “the core gameplay experience.”
Lots of changes are being made in Season 16, and the devs are “not going to be precious about anything,” as they state that “everything is on the table” when it comes to changes, and the removal of Arenas is a great example of this.
Arenas set to be replaced by TDM & Mixtape modes
To fill the hole that the removal of Arenas will leave, Apex Legends Season 16 will bring a new TDM and Mixtape mode to the game.
TDM
The TDM mode is as it sounds, a 6v6 team deathmatch where players score points by killing opponents. There will be three rounds, and the team with the most points across these rounds will win the match.
The maps for TDM include the following: Habitat 4, Skulltown, and Party Crasher.
Mixtape
Mixtape is a brand-new mode that will replace TDM three weeks after Season 16’s launch. Mixtape is essentially a “persistent playlist of rotating modes,” including TDM, Control, and Gun Run. The mode will evolve and bring new and old modes as time progresses.
