EA cancel Battlefield Mobile and shut down Apex Legends Mobile

Battlefield Mobile and Apex Legends Mobile will have no future as EA has declared that development on Battlefield Mobile has ceased and Apex Legends Mobile will be shutting down.

In quite a surprising move that has taken many people off-guard, the upcoming Battlefield Mobile game that has reportedly been in development for several years has been canceled.

But, in a double whammy, EA and Respawn have also announced that after less than a year in circulation, Apex Legends Mobile is ceasing production and will be closing down in three months.

Both titles were expected to be flagship mobile games for the giant game company, but EA’s latest financial earnings turned out to be the end for both projects.

In a statement from Respawn Entertainment regarding Apex Legends Mobile, they explained: “At Respawn, we aim to provide players with games that are consistently outstanding. Following a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence. It is for this reason, after months of working with our development partner, that we have made the mutual decision to sunset our mobile game.”

The devs go on to say that January 31, 2023, marked “the beginning of a ninety (90) day window before we sunset the game” and the final day for the shooter will be May 1, 2023.

Respawn added that they are also “disabling all real money in-app purchases in the game as well as removing the game from webstores.”

On the other hand, Battlefield Mobile has been rumored to be in development for a couple of years at the very least and has been in early beta testing.

EA had this to say: “As the industry has evolved and our strategy to create a deeply connected Battlefield ecosystem has taken shape, we decided to pivot from the current direction to best deliver on our vision for the franchise and to meet the expectations of our players.”

The commitment to improving Battlefield 2042 is still full-speed ahead, and it’s left many people wondering where EA will go next with regard to its presence in the mobile gaming market.

EA’s decision has been more baffling due to the continued success of rival shooter CoD Mobile, with Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile also on the way.
