How to play Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch for free
Apex Legends made its way to the Nintendo Switch on March 9, and you can get your hands on the battle royale for completely free. We’ll go over everything that you need to do.
The success of Apex Legends since its launch in 2019 has been spectacular, so it came as no surprise that fans asked the devs to bring the battle royale to other platforms. Then it finally arrived on the Nintendo Switch on March 9.
Players on this platform will receive some neat exclusive benefits, including a brand new skin. We’ll go over everything that you need to know about getting the Switch version of the game for yourself.
Will you need a Nintendo Online membership?
The good news is that the game is available for free. You will not need a Nintendo Online membership to get it, but your Nintendo account needs to be linked up to the Switch.
If you don’t have an account, then you’ll have to make one before you can play. This is a fairly quick and easy process, and you can visit the Nintendo Account website to get this done. Here’s how you can link up your Nintendo account to the Switch:
- Visit System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to Users, then select your account.
- Select Link Nintendo Account. and then click Sign In and Link.
- Pick a sign-in method, like your email address or smart device.
- Finally, select Link to connect your Nintendo Account to the user account.
Once this is done, you will receive a message that confirms that this process was successful.
How to get Apex Legends on the Switch
Since Apex Legends is free, you can download the game on whichever account that you want. Simply visit the Nintendo eShop on your console’s Home page, and enter the battle royale’s name to search for it.
Once you found it, you can click download, and it will be added to your library. Alternatively, you can also visit the Apex Legends game page on the Nintendo website and click “free download” to install it on your Switch.
It requires a download of at least 30 GB via a wireless connection, so make your storage and Internet speed are sufficient. Just wait for it to finish up, and you can jump right into the action!
Once you have it, you will be able to play with others on PC and consoles in the latest limited-time event, the Chaos Theory Collection Event. You’ll also get 30 free levels for the Season 8 Battle Pass, and Double XP for the first two weeks after launch.

There is also a brand new exclusive Legendary Pathfinder skin that is available for Switch players, and you’ll immediately get to unlock it for free between March 9 and May 4.
