Baldur’s Gate 3 dev responds as Xbox players banned for clipping romance scenes
Larian StudiosBaldur’s Gate 3 players have run into an issue where they are getting banned on Xbox for sharing screenshots and other content, and a Larian dev has responded to the problem.
Baldur’s Gate 3 players are facing bans and other issues on Xbox for sharing recorded content of the game. Specifically, content that includes some of the spicier scenes from the game.
The romance options in Baldur’s Gate 3 is what attracts a lot of players to play the game time and time again. Each companion has a unique story and character, and you need to make the right choices to romance your chosen partner.
Fans have expressed a great appreciation for the characters Baldur’s Gate 3 brings for us to adventure with, which means that sometimes fans want to remember the more intimate moments with them.
When recording or clipping content, Xbox loads that content onto the server by default. One player shared on Reddit that their account had been banned for a year because they decided to clip a few romantic scenes.
“Each clip counted as a different infraction and got my account banned for a year,” Reddit user ‘Daddy-Vegas’ posted. “I’m hoping the appeals process fixes this, but as of now; I can’t play any game that requires a network connection.”
Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian Studios, responded to fans’ concerns over this issue. “We’ve seen the reports that some players got banned or otherwise faced issues on Xbox having uploaded screenshots/videos of their ‘gameplay content’,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “We’re in discussion with Microsoft, and we’re looking into it.”
The issue did not sit well with fans, especially because they felt players should be able to share any content from a game they have purchased. Baldur’s Gate 3 is rated as a Mature game, rather than only for Adults (18+), which may be where the issue comes in.
Fans felt that the punishment was harsh for something that already exists in the game that they are just sharing. This issue isn’t unique to Baldur’s Gate 3 either, with one player mentioning they had a similar issue with South Park before.
“I got a warning for a cussing South Park game clip. They don’t mess around which is lame since it’s in game content. The whole game sharing process on Xbox is laughable,” they said.
Xbox has not mentioned anything about the issue yet, and we will keep you updated with any changes that they make in the future.
