Larian StudiosBaldur’s Gate 3 is full of strong enemies to defeat, but also skilled companions you can have at your side to help you overcome the most dangerous encounters. Halsin is one of the best party members you can recruit, and here’s how to get him as a member of your team in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game that invites the discovery of things like Legendary Weapons, incredible challenges, puzzles, and memorable characters. Halsin is one of the companions you will find during your adventures on the Sword Coast, and recruiting him can be a little tricky.
Like every possible companion, there’s a series of things you should do, as well as a lot you should avoid doing to keep Halsin by your side. This is what you need to do to recruit Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Where to find Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3
The first time you hear about Halsin is when approaching the Druid Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3. There, you will receive several quests from the Druids and some from the Tiefling Refugees.
One of the quests sends you on a path to Find the Archdruid Halsin. Nettie, his apprentice, will meet you in the most secluded room in the Grove after you speak to Khaga. Avoid being poisoned by her, and promise to take the Wyvern Poison if your Parasite starts to act up.
She will then send you on a quest to find her master, to save the Druid Grove and the Tieflings.
You will need to progress further between Act 1 and Act 2 to recruit him. There are a few things you should keep in mind to set yourself on the correct path to convince Halsin to follow you.
How to recruit Halsin as a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3
To recruit Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3, you first need to complete the Druid Grove Act by saving him from the Goblin Fortress and siding with either The Refugees or Khaga. Keep in mind that there are a few things to avoid if you want to recruit him:
SPOILERS AHEAD
- Avoid attacking him when you find him in his wild-shape form.
- Avoid siding with Minthara inside the Goblin Fortress to attack the Druid Grove.
- Avoid killing all the Tieflings on Khaga’s command.
- Avoid killing Khaga without discovering her plot first.
- Avoid senseless acts of evil in the Druid Grove or in Halsin’s presence during his follower period.
- Protect Isobel and the Harpers, if they die, you cannot move forward with Halsin’s quest.
You cannot recruit him until later in the game, but when you save him during the Goblin Fortress quest, you will be able to get him as a follower until you finish fighting the Goblin Leaders.
Once the first part of Act 1 concludes and you save The Druid Grove and the Tieflings, Halsin will invite himself to your camp. There he will tell you about two possible paths for you to follow to Moonrise Towers, the place where the Cult of The Absolute is hiding.
Take either of those paths and move forward to Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3. Once you have found The Last Light Inn and talked with Jaheira, you will be able to continue your path to recruit Halsin.
During the Protect yourself from the Shadowcurse quest, you will gain access to certain places in the map you need to travel to to complete Halsin’s Questline. When talking to Halsin, he will reveal his relationship and past bound to the Shadow Cursed Lands and speak to you about Thaniel a spirit of the land he failed to save.
Now go back to The Last Light Inn and find the sleeping man, named Art Cullagh. He will be in one of the side rooms on the first floor. By speaking with his caretaker, she will tell you that no one knows why he doesn’t wake up. To do so, you will need the Battered Lute, an instrument you will need to take back from Malus Thorm, a boss located in the House of Healing.
Once you get the Lute, go back to Art Cullagh and interact with him. Then chose “Play the Battered Lute.” He will immediately wake and following the dialogue, he will mention Thaniel. Now you know that Halsin is the one who knows what happened to this man and to the Spirit he was fond of. Go back to your camp, talk to Halsin, and make him wait for you at the Inn.
Now comes the tricky part. Follow Halsin to the backside of the Inn, where you will need to prepare yourself to defend a Portal from several waves of enemies. Shadowheart can be a good ally here, as she will have Turn Undead and the Destroy Undead features that will make quick work of the lesser enemies. Once you’ve fended off three waves of enemies, Halsin will emerge carrying Thaniel.
However, the Spirit is somewhat broken and Halsin will send you on a quest to find the missing pieces of Thaniel. If you haven’t found it yet during your exploration of the Shadow Cursed Lands, you are looking for a Tiefling shadow-cursed boy named Oliver. He will be located northwest of the Last Light Inn, at the House with the Flowers location.
After “convincing” him to play with you and some fighting against Shadow Fiends, Oliver will follow you to your camp, and when you finally talk to Halsin and convince Oliver to merge with Thaniel again, you will be able to recruit Halsin for your entourage.
