Baldur’s Gate 3: How to silence the Nightsong

Baldur’s Gate 3 has plenty of builds that require specific items to make the most of them while traveling through Faerun. If you’re focused on getting your character as stealthy as possible, you’ll probably be looking for the Spear of Night in the Temple of Shar.
That said, getting it isn’t as simple as looting an enemy or lockpicking a chest: you’ll have to solve the Riddle of the Night to claim the Spear of Night. In order to do so, Baldur’s Gate 3 will ask you to “Silence the Nightsong,” so here’s everything you need to know about doing so.
How to silence the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3
If you’re trying to silence the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’re going to have to explore the Silent Library to find out how to solve the riddle. Here’s how to silence the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Search the bookcases on the southeastern side of the Silent Library.
- Grab the book titled “Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger.”
- Take the book to the “Riddle of the Night” altar.
- Place the book on the altar to silence the Nightsong.
You’ll find the Silent Library as you’re trying to solve the Trials of Shar quests, where you probably realize that every room has plenty of mini-quests of its own.
In order to complete the “Silence the Nightsong” quest, you’ll need to enter the Silent Library (X:-770 Y:-748), and look for the book “Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger”. If you start at the library’s entrance, you can look for it on the bookcases lined on the right-hand side, all the way down to the southeastern side of the library.
After you find it, you’ll have to go to the northern side of the Silent Library, where the Riddle of the Night altar is waiting. To solve the riddle and “Silence the Nightsong”, you’ll need to select the book from your inventory and place it on the altar. From there you’ll be able to “combine” the items and finally silence the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Once you’ve completed the quest, you’ll have access to the Dark Justiciar relics. These include armor, a rare helmet, and the Spear of Night (which is key for Shadowheart’s quest).
