Baldur's Gate 3 Displacer Beast

In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can morph into various creatures as a Druid, but the Displacer Beast is the only one that isn’t restricted to any particular class. It’s a unique creature taken from DnD lore. So, here’s how you can unlock and transform into a Displacer Beast in BG3.

You can consume Mind Flayer tadpoles you collect along your journey to unlock powerful abilities in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you use them, you’ll keep unlocking additional tiers of Illithid Powers, one of which is the ability to transform into a Displacer Beast. The best thing is, you don’t even need to be a Druid to morph into this beast.

This creature is well-known for projecting illusions, which can be useful for avoiding ranged attacks and fooling enemies. With that in mind, here’s how to get the Displacer Beast Form and use it in Baldur’s Gate 3.

What is a Displacer Beast in Baldur’s Gate 3?

A Displacer Beast is a feline-like creature that lives in The Forgotten Realms of BG3. It resembles a panther with six legs and a pair of tentacles that come out from their shoulders.

The Displacer Beast’s coat can bend light, letting it project images of itself several feet from its real location while turning invisible.

How to unlock the Displacer Beast Shape in Baldur’s Gate 3

If Baldur’s Gate 3 players choose to level up their Ilithid Powers using tadpoles, they’ll eventually unlock a skill called “Displacer Beast Shape.” Here’s what you need to do to unlock Displacer Beast Shape:

  1. Get the “Psionic Overload” skill from your first tadpole.
  2. After consuming your second parasite, you’ll have to unlock the “Stage Fright” skill.
  3. Given the opportunity, use the Astral-Touched Tadpole.
  4. Then, you’ll be able to unlock “Displacer Beast Shape,” which can be used by any Class.

Be aware that The Emperor will evolve you with a cost, but it’s necessary for those who want to unlock the strongest Illithid Powers. Those who don’t want to negotiate with him at the end of Act 2 will be able to find the Astral-Touched Tadpole in their Inventory to use later.

What abilities has the Displacer Beast in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Displacer Beast Shape in BG3 allows you to transform into this fierce creature once per long rest and you’ll stay in the form until you dismiss it or hit 0 HP.

When transformed into a Displacer Beast in or out of combat, players gain 85 HP and the physical stats of the creature (Strength 18, Dexterity 15, and Constitution 16) while keeping their own Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.

Displacer Beasts’ basic attack is Tentacle Whip, which deals 2d6+4 bludgeoning and 2d6 piercing damage on a successful attack roll.

They’ll also have two abilities that can be used every three turns: Illusory Copy and Displace. Illusory Copy lets the player spawn a duplicate that can attack and distract enemies, while Displace teleports the user and a target to a nearby location, dealing 2d8 psychic damage and creating an Illusory Copy.
