Baldur’s Gate 3 player accidentally kills “bestest boi” Scratch with simple mistake
Larian StudiosA Baldur’s Gate 3 player ended up unintentionally getting Scratch, their pet companion, killed in a bizarre manner. They warned the community so that others wouldn’t accidentally follow in their footsteps.
Baldur’s Gate 3 allows you to have several companions, and it includes animals as well. You can add an Owlbear cub to your camp along with Scratch the dog. Scratch is adored by the player community and has been affectionately dubbed “the bestest boi.”
You can play fetch with your furry friend and even pet him. He can also bring you random items, such as useless trinkets or small loot. These activities can only be done in your camp, but that doesn’t shield Scratch from harm, as one player learned the hard way.
A Redditor named ‘ID10T_3RROR’ shared their experience of accidentally killing Scratch on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit. They were playing fetch with Scratch when they unintentionally hit him with the ball. “Scratch immediately aggroed the entire camp and they slaughtered him before my disbelieving eyes. I sat in my chair in shock,” the OP added.
The OP said Scratch’s unexpected death in Baldur’s Gate 3 shocked them so much that they yelled, prompting their significant other to rush in to check on them. They “sheepishly reloaded” the game after calming down, losing 45 minutes of playtime but saving the “bestest boi.”
Other Baldur’s Gate 3 players shared their stories about how they lost Scratch in similar ways. One user added, “Me too! I was heartbroken because Wyll fireballed my dog before I even knew what was happening. And then everyone went back about their day like nothing happened.”
Another player had a similar incident but it was Halsin who attacked Scratch in their playthrough. Not all players had something so grim happen to them. One user said that Scratch “just whined and ran around camp frantically for a few seconds” after getting hit.
If Scratch dies during your playthrough, your companions will have a lot to say about it. As someone wrote, “They actually have dialogue when you throw his ball if he’s dead. They range from sad like in Karlach’s dialogue to oddly hilarious in Minthara’s case.”
