Baldur’s Gate 3 player claims devs got nature fact hilariously wrong
Larian StudiosBaldur’s Gate 3 devs Larian seems to be unfamiliar with Blue Jays, with a “Certified Bird Fan” poking fun at the devs for the in-game birds being so different from their real-life counterparts.
There are a lot of interactable animals in Baldur’s Gate 3, and the devs have made them all memorable. His Majesty, Scratch the dog, the Owlbear cub, and even the Strange Ox have all become fan favorites thanks to their witty storytelling. However, Larian seems to have messed up the Blue Jays, and an “avid birder” found it “hysterically funny.”
The player in question is Redditor ‘AstroAri,’ who posted about the in-game Blue Jays on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit. They explained: “It’s extremely clear that Larian (a Belgian company) have absolutely no clue what a Blue Jay (a corvid endemic to North America) actually is.”
For instance, the OP added that if you’re a Bard, you can convince a Blue Jay at Druid Grove to sing. However, unlike the game, real Blue Jays are “only capable of screaming.” There’s also a Red Jay in the game, which makes no sense in real life either.
However, the OP did admit one thing Larian got right about Blue Jays: “the fact that the Blue Jay murders the eagles if you leave them unconscious is accurate Blue jay behavior. They’re little sh*ts.” They also jokingly called the game “pro-Blue Jay propaganda.”
One Baldur’s Gate 3 player added that they were “glad to hear someone clarify this” and explained how destructive real-life Blue Jays are. Others soon joined in to jokingly mention how Halsin would react to real-life Blue Jays.
‘Hello_Hangnail’ presented an example of a Blue Jay engaging in violent behavior, and mentioned how Halsin would just say, “Such beauty in the Oakfather’s creations.” Meanwhile, another player mentioned that at least Larian got the bald eagle vocals right “instead of the usual red-tail hawk sound that films and TV shows always use.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 players often praise the devs for adding features that they ask for such as the latest patch adding a highly requested visual weapon update, but they’re not against poking some fun at them either.
