Larian Studios set specific narrative turn points that could make Baldur’s Gate 3 companions leave your party. However, fans have discovered a way to keep them despite what’s happening in Faerun.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has many turn points that let companions decide if they want to stay in your party while you are traveling through Faerun. This is usually decided by the approval rate players have with each NPC; the lower it is, the more probable they will decide to part ways with the main characters.

Players trying to go through an evil or Durge playthrough find it hard to retain some of the most morally good-aligned characters, such as Karlach and Wyll. Since they aren’t easily persuaded to overlook wrong actions or killing sprees, these characters are majorly affected if players decide to raid Emerald Grove during Act 1.

However, a Reddit user found a way for them to overlook this quest and managed to keep them in their party while working to rebuild their approval rate. “I’ve invested some time in-game to find a way to keep these 2 after I commit genocide for a beautiful princess (Minthara),” explained Redditor ‘UraGotJuice.’

Recruiting Scratch increases most companions’ approval rate.

According to the OP, players need to raid the Grove while leaving Karlack and Wyll waiting in camp. After doing so, and without talking to them, the main character should kill both of them and ask Withers to “take care of them” so their body and spirits linger at the location.

After that, players will need to recruit Scratch, the dog companion that can be found during Act 1. After he arrives at camp, the main character should pet it, which will increase Karlach and Wyll’s approval level even if they’re dead. When revived, they won’t leave the party, even after raiding the Grove.

“Oh Scratch, bringing people together,” said Reddit user ‘DarkPhoenixMishima.’ Although most Baldur’s Gate 3 fans also shared other methods to keep them after that quest, some pointed out that this can only be done with Karlach. “For some reason, Wyll is hardcoded to leave as soon as you start the raid, even if he is dead/stored at Withers/hidden in camp/chest, etc.,” explained ‘KaRappaPride.’

And that’s everything on how a Baldur’s Gate 3 fan discovered how to keep Karlach and Wyll after raiding the grove. If you want to know more about Larian Studios’ RPG, you can check which is the most hated companion in Faerun and everything new with Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5.
