A player has discovered a way to earn a powerful piece of equipment earlier in Baldur’s Gate 3, and the community is curious to know if this is a bug or something intended to be like that.

For Baldur’s Gate 3 players, there’s nothing like a shortage of surprises, as this game is huge and has enough freedom of choice to allow RPG fans to try every possible solution for the challenges the game puts in their way. However, this BG3 player has found a way to get an incredible item early on, though it is unclear if this is an exploit or something the devs have left there on purpose.

Finding legendary weapons and items is key to survival in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3, so players have no choice but to be drawn to shiny objects and powerful magic items. Even if said items are guarded by the most fearsome of foes: The Devil itself.

But for this Baldur’s Gate 3 player, the impossible is just difficult, with some extra steps. Here’s what Reddit user ‘Hope_bringer’ did to get their hands on the most powerful piece of armor in the game.

It seems that it is possible to knock down Raphael during Act 2, and some players even suggest that it is also doable in Act 1. The deed can be accomplished by ambushing him in one of his many visits to your camp.

The OP stated: “I remember that before there was an exploit to get 1400 EXP from knocking him out prior to patch 5, but all he dropped was his diary, apparently the helldusk armor drops instead now.” So this might indicate that it is probably some sort of exploit as well.

Nevertheless, the player who accomplished this hasn’t explained in detail how he managed to prevent Raphael from vanishing after you attack it, but a keen Baldur’s Gate 3 fan has explained how they believe this was done:

“My working theory is that his teleport counts as a spell for him, and he’s programmed to vanish instead of fight. So by silencing him he tries to disappear but cannot due to silence, and he won’t engage the player because he’s supposed to prioritize running. Huh.”

Certainly, casting Silence on Raphael in Turn-Based Mode might grant you enough time to surprise him and swarm him before he can cast teleport, thus granting you the window of opportunity you need to cash out the armor early on.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is certainly an incredible game, but with many tough challenges to beat, having that armor early on could be a great help for you. And speaking about challenges here’s how to romance Shadowheart and a full guide on how to beat Auntie Ethel.
