Baldur’s Gate 3 player shares trick to get Zaith’isk buff even after Lae’zel uses it
Larian StudiosA Baldur’s Gate 3 player discovered that, if you pass a fairly high Difficulty Check, you can allow Lae’zel to use the Zaith’isk and still obtain the buff for yourself.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has several different ways for a scenario to play out, and as such, players may not even know about all the variations unless they go for multiple playthroughs. Fans are discovering something new almost every other day, whether it’s some well-hidden secret ending or a hilarious exploit.
The latest secret that Baldur’s Gate 3 players have uncovered involves the Zaith’isk, a strange device that can give you a permanent buff or debuff, depending on your interaction with it. It’s almost always a bad choice to let Lae’zel use it unless you can get her out in time. If you use it on yourself, however, you can gain a powerful ‘Awakened’ buff but only after passing three consecutive skill checks.
Now, one Baldur’s Gate 3 player has discovered that you can get Lae’zel to use the Zaith’isk and still gain the power for yourself. You just need to pass a ridiculously difficult Arcana check of 30 to “draw on the Zaith’isk’s power, take it as your own.” You can let any other companion use it and gain the power by using the same method.
As the OP explains, “allow Lae’zel to use the Zaith’isk, then you have to encourage Lae’zel to endure the pain twice.” This doesn’t require passing any Difficulty Checks, but then comes the DC 30 Arcana check. Once you pass that, “your ‘Dream Guardian’ will blow up the machine to save Lae’zel but you will still get the ‘Awakened’ permanent buff.”
The OP went for this method because they believed you always lose approval with Lae’zel if you don’t let her go first. However, as one Baldur’s Gate 3 player mentioned, “you actually gain approval by pushing ahead of her. She respects you for it. If you pick the right dialogue option.” They also added that “the DC 18 skillchecks are easier to pass” that way.
This won’t work if you have low approval with her, so the method that the OP mentioned might be better in that case. Nevertheless, it’s interesting to see that Larian added so many ways to complete a single scenario. One user stated that they had no idea the Zaith’isk gave them a buff, despite having played the game for over 450 hours.
Many others mentioned that they just use the Mind Flayer tadpoles to remove the debuffs. Others admitted to never realizing they had been debuffed and only checking it after reading the OP’s post. One user added, “I did about 10 runs before I figured it out.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 players often end up finding something new by experimenting with the game. One player got the worst outcome for every companion in a single, brutal playthrough. Meanwhile, another got roasted for breaking their game after somehow skipping a major fight.
