Baldur’s Gate 3 players argue Emerald Grove isn’t worth saving
Larian StudiosIt’s true that saving Emerald Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3 may get you some great storylines and help in the long run, but players are starting to realize it may not be all it’s cracked up to be.
Emerald Grove is the first place in Baldur’s Gate 3 you are likely to run into that has major plot points in the storyline. As you progress questlines, you find that you have to either save the Grove from Goblin attacks, or band with the Goblins to destroy the area.
Unless you are doing an evil playthrough, it is likely that you will end up saving the Tieflings and Druids of Emerald Grove from the Goblins and Shadow Druids. You get a few things out of it, as is shown in the rest of the game, but some players are realizing that the effort it takes to save the Grove may not be worth it.
In a Reddit post titled “Why did I bother saving the Druids?”, a player questioned why they should fight for Emerald Grove if the Druids don’t. “The Druids – who wanted to exile the poor Tieflings – don’t bother to show up and fight for their own home,” the OP said.
“The people they were gonna kick to the curb fought hard to defend the place that decided it was going to throw them out to be goblin gruel. Those Tieflings fought and bled for a place that rejected them, while the fine citizens of the grove cowered.”
Some players pointed out that Kagha being part of the Shadow Druids could explain the absence of Druids protecting the Grove, but it still wasn’t a good enough reason.
This issue seems to have permeated the entire Baldur’s Gate 3 community, as a second Reddit post titled “I’m going to burn it all down” asked the same questions. Players felt that the Druids of the Grove were not worth saving, especially given that they leave you to deal with it alongside the Tieflings who they want to chase out.
“If Halsin wasn’t in Goblin prison he’d have led the Druids to join the fight. Still doesn’t change the fact that all of them are cowards tho, literally none of them went out there to help,” one player commented.
So, even though saving the Grove helps protect the Tieflings from imminent death and gets Halsin to join you on your adventures, a lot of players were not impressed with the lack of response from the Druids in the fight.
As one fan put it, “Let the bones of those hippies pave your way forward. May their Gods show them mercy, for you shall have none to spare.”
