Baldur’s Gate 3 players delighted as Karlach might get a better ending
Larian StudiosLarian Studios confirmed their plans regarding Origin characters’ epilogues, especially fan-favorite Karlach. Their latest Community update said that devs are looking to expand her story and also explained “cut content” fan theories. Here’s everything Baldur’s Gate 3 devs said in their update.
Larian Studios confirmed what are their future plans for the much-acclaimed RPG in its latest Baldur’s Gate 3 update. Besides talking about their “1000 bug fixes” in Patch 1 and briefly describing Patch 2, devs also announced that Karlach, the feisty Tiefling Barbarian, will have more content added to her epilogue.
As its Community Update #24 describes, Larian Studios is trying to satisfy the biggest complaints expressed by their fan community, especially those related to the characters’ ending, which has been deemed by some players as “anti-climatic.”
“We’ve started expanding the epilogues, and you’ll see the first results of that in Patch 2 with the addition of a new optional ending with Karlach. It’s fiery, poignant, and gives her the ending she deserves,” Larian Studios confirmed.
Baldur’s Gate 3 fan community is excited by this new announcement, as most players agreed that they find some of their characters’ endings too short (or even non-existent because of gameplay bugs). “New Karlach epilogue. My life will be complete,” celebrated reddit user called RaltarArianrhod.
Karlach’s ending isn’t the only one being enhanced in the future, and Baldur’s Gate 3 devs assured that they’ll be working on adding some of the content they scrapped when realizing its final version. According to their update, this new ending will appear in Patch 2, along with other epilogue expansions.
“One of the reasons why we trimmed the epilogue is because we were afraid the ending cinematics were becoming too long and would detract from the epicness of the experience,” devs explained, “But clearly, not everyone agrees with us! So we’re going to do something about it.”
Larian Studios addresses “cut content” controversy
Baldur’s Gate 3 devs pointed out that they’re trying to answer their community suggestions, especially the ones related to “cut-content” found by data miners. Even though they’ve agreed to expand on some ideas that didn’t get into the final cut of the game, Larian Studios was adamant in explaining that not everything was to be seen as an alternative to the story.
“What’s been datamined is not really cut content, but content that we didn’t want to release because we didn’t think it worked. We’re pretty strict with ourselves and our ideas. If it isn’t good – if it isn’t fun to play – it doesn’t make it into the game,” they said.
However, Larian Studios did confirm that they are studying the possibility of adding some of the scraped content in order to extend the epilogue and described Baldur’s Gate 3 as a “game with many releases”, that would take their fan community response into account when adding features.
