Baldur’s Gate 3 players divided on logic behind eating Hag’s hair
Larian StudiosBaldur’s Gate 3 gives players opportunities for better stats so they can be more viable in a fight, and eating the Hag’s hair from Act 1 is one of those cases. Now, players are debating whether or not it’s the right decision.
The Hag (Auntie Ethel) in Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the more formidable enemies players will come across in Act 1, but if you play your cards right, she will give you the option to increase an attribute of your choice.
By negotiating to let her leave without killing her and giving you custody of Mayrina, her captive, players can get a piece of the Hag’s hair and increase an attribute of their choice. It’s a little gross if you think about it, but at the point where this is happening, it seems like a good deal.
Some players, however, are questioning whether it makes sense from a roleplaying perspective. “I know people like to min-max, but from a role-playing perspective, there’s absolutely no way I’d eat the Hag’s nasty ass hair with lice and puss,” Redditor ‘Mag_Eater’ said in a post.
From a pure roleplaying perspective, some Baldur’s Gate 3 players agreed with this idea. Roleplaying is all about acting out what a character would realistically do and say – and eating hair from a Hag is not exactly the most appetizing idea, no matter what it might give you.
“People keep talking about gaining power in character but from an RP perspective why would you trust anything the Hag has to say, especially after everything that just happened,” a player commented.
On the other hand, however, it may make sense in some roleplaying cases to eat the Hag hair. If players are using a power-hungry character that will do nearly anything to become the greatest of all time, eating some hair isn’t close to the worst thing they would do.
“My current Honour Mode Warlock is in power acquisition mode – a tome of forbidden knowledge, a blessing from the goddess of pain, some light brain tadpoling…what’s gonna be really so bad about a Hag’s hair to keep me from its power?” another player said.
The consensus overall seemed to be that, yes, purely from a stats perspective, eating the Hag’s hair makes sense. From a roleplaying perspective, however, the choice is a little more nuanced – it’s all up to you.
