Baldur’s Gate 3 players explain why Wyll always gets ignored
Larian StudiosBaldur’s Gate 3 has a good roster of party members for players to choose from, and Wyll has proven to be one that players tend to skip out on.
Baldur’s Gate 3 party members have a lot to offer beyond their compelling storylines. Each member has a Class, Subclass, and the accompanying abilities to go with them – but you can also change them to suit your playstyle.
Some characters are more popular than others, and Wyll seems to be one of the least favorite among the Origin characters. Not necessarily to do with his story, but according to some players, it seems to have more to do with his abilities.
“Why do people skip on Wyll?” Redditor ‘Regular-Media-4138’ asked in a post. “I constantly see how of all the origin characters Wyll is the one who seems to get ignored the most. Gameplay wise I find it weird why would anyone ignore him, I always found him extremely useful.”
Players took to the comments to explain why this may be true for them. Interestingly, the reasons ranged from beginners to the genre not fully understanding how to play with a Warlock to Wyll’s character not being very compelling.
“I found some people finding his design toooooo normal compared to the other characters and them not knowing how a warlock works compared to wizard,” a player commented.
This rang true for other players, too, as a Warlock in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be a little more complicated than a Sorcerer or Wizard. With more reliance on cantrips and a semi-melee style, Warlocks require a bit more nuance that can be difficult to grasp for anyone who hasn’t played one before.
“In my first playthrough I had no idea how anything worked and kept getting confused as to why he was running out of spells so quickly,” a fan explained.
In terms of his character, one player likened him to Jacob from Mass Effect 2. “He suffers from the same thing as Jacob from Mass Effect. There’s nothing inherently wrong with his character, and in a vacuum he would be interesting, but instead he ends up feeling boring due to being surrounded by far more interesting characters overall,” they explained.
So, as much as there is nothing inherently wrong with Wyll, it seems the issue lies with his character being a bit bland for players. This together with the fact that playing a Warlock takes a bit more learning means that he is not one of the popular choices for a Baldur’s Gate 3 party.
