Yurgir the Orthon in Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most difficult fights of Act 2, but some players believe it’s actually best to go against Raphael and help him out of his contract.

While Raphael is not the best person you’ll meet in Baldur’s Gate 3, he is somewhat of a fan-favorite character. He can also play a key role in helping Astarion with his personal quest, so long as you get rid of Yurgir the Orthon

Raphael doesn’t initially give you a lot of context as to why he wants this from you. Once you do some digging, though, you can figure out that Yurgir is in a contract with Raphael that he is yet to fulfill

While the easiest option may be to charge in swords blazing to kill Yurgir, some players are unsure if this is the best method of dealing with him. Yurgir couldn’t be put above Raphael as a better person, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve to be helped.

In a Reddit post titled “Did anyone else irritate their party by doing this?” Baldur’s Gate 3 fans shared their reasons for why helping Yurgir may be worth it.

Firstly, as one player put it, Astarion has more than one opportunity to learn about the ritual, so it’s not necessary to do what Raphael asks. “I help Yurgir out of his contract these days, cuz f**k Raphael. Plus this way in Act 3 Yurgir comes to your camp and tells you about Helsik, and automatically joins your side in HOH,” they commented.

Helping Yurgir can anger your party, though, and players think this may simply be because they are scared of them and not because it’s inherently a bad choice. Plus, you have a chance of saving the Displacer Beast if you do.

On the other hand, another player pointed out that you could get better dialogue with Araj if you decide to kill Yurgir and are romancing Astarion. “If you’re romancing Astarion and you talk to Araj before killing Yurgir, his confession talk is different. I don’t like the one you get when you talk to her,” they explained.

Unfortunately, if you decide to spare Yurgir, you could also miss out on the Hellfire Hand crossbow. Whatever you choose, players think there is more nuance to it than merely just killing a demon.
