Baldur’s Gate 3 fans know that ignoring some seemingly small side quests has a special outcome when reaching Act 3. While most know everything going on with the suspicious Auntie Ethel, players insist that ignoring her isn’t the best option during any playthrough.

Larian Studios introduced to Baldur’s Gate 3 a series of intriguing characters that not only help with world-building but also let players know that everything they do will have a direct outcome at the end of the adventure.

According to the Baldur’s Gate 3 community, a major side quest that players shouldn’t ignore is the one of Auntie Ethel, an NPC that can be first found during Act 1. After talking to her for the first time, she offers the adventurer to help them with the Mind Flayers’ tadpole and invites them to visit their teahouse.

Auntie Ethel will first appear as a sweet old lady during Act 1 in Baldur’s Gate 3.

But players soon find out that Auntie Ethel is a hag, and even if she doesn’t really care about directly harming the party, she has tricked a woman named Mayrina to get and eat her baby. This gives players the option of taking a personal interest in this side-quest, which will lead through a series of missions available during Act 3.

However, many Baldur’s Gate 3 fans were surprised to see that if they ignored Auntie Ethel, every region and character related to her during Act 3 was blocked.

“I recently discovered that if you leave Ethel to her business in Act I, she doesn’t appear in Act III. At least, she didn’t for me. There was no Lora, no hidden area below the Blushing Mermaid, no witch hunters, and a Captain Grisly that leaves only a normal human corpse when killed,” described Redditor ‘Cptcodfish.’

Players agreed that ignoring Auntie Ethel’s storyline wasn’t the best option in Baldur’s Gate 3 since adventurers would skip a major quest in Faerun and lose the opportunity to claim one of the best weapons in the game.

“This really f*cked my first playthrough as a sword bard, I wanted the Legendary Rapier because it was the only endgame weapon that made sense for her, but since I never met Auntie Ethel I couldn’t get the quest. I don’t mind the idea of missable loot, but it really s*cks that there are no other legendary rapiers I could have gotten in Act 3,” described Redditor ‘Erl-X.’

While Baldur’s Gate 3 fans debate if Auntie Ethel’s boss fight is one of the best during their adventure through Faerun, you can check why players claim that Astarion is “irrelevant” for the main campaign or how come fans think Soul Coins are “useless”.
