Baldur’s Gate 3 players reveal clever use for seemingly useless soap item

Traveling Faerun in style can be one of the biggest challenges in Baldur’s Gate 3, as most corners of the map are filled with challenges that will require you to get your hands dirty. Even if you’re not one of those players who are bathing their companions in blood once you’ve reached the Mind Flayer colony, you are surely in need of a few tricks to keep your party squeaky clean.

Larian Studios revealed a few patches ago that sponges and soap can be used to remove all gore from your characters, which is great when you’re at your camp getting ready for any cutscenes triggered after your Long Rest.

I’m not a big fan of carrying around things that might encumber my dainty bard, but having only one of them in your Inventory will do the trick. As players described in Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, you can right-click on the item and select “Consume” to use it, but the item won’t disappear from your menu.

You can find both sponges and soap lying around almost everywhere as early as Act 1 at the Goblin Camp, which gives you almost no excuse for having your companions all dingy while talking to unsuspecting NPCs.

You can also get them clean if you have somebody who can cast “Create Water” in your party. While you’re out of combat, you can aim this spell at your companions and see how they get clean almost immediately.

Some players refuse to carry sponges or soap as well, but they’ll get to bathe their characters by throwing water jugs at them. If you’re not in the mood for losing any spell lots, you can also wait for Act 3, win the Reverse Rain Cloak in the Circus of the Last Day, and then equip it to any member who’s in dire need of a shower.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is filled with little details that add more depth to its role-playing narrative. If you’re wondering what else you might have missed, check out which weird item is making players lose all their equipment and which class doesn’t even need weapons.
